No, thinking about it too deeply would be saying that technically it isn't the gambler's fallacy because the outcomes of each game aren't strictly independent probabilities as Preston/Birmingham can unilaterally change their strategies in response to the previous game, but here we are.

I thought this exact same thing whilst watching the highlights on Quest. They said something like ‘Preston suffered their first defeat in 13 against Reading last weekend” and it made me think that a team with that record is unlikely to lose 3 in a row.

They then said that Birmingham hadn’t won in 5 (before today) and I thought a team with that record are unlikely to win 2 in a row.

A hatred so intense, that he’d like nothing more than to see their promotion ambitions and Premier League riches, cruelly snatched away by Sheffield United

I can understand that. I think he’s such a honest, level headed guy though that he will feel his prime responsibility is to his current employers. He will still want his team to do well as he has so much personal pride. So we will have to beat them with no help I’m afraid!
