Quick thoughts – we were alright today, doing just enough in the end after we didn’t take chances to kill the game off. On the plus side, the superb goal, I thought the defence was very good (led by the excellent Stearman), and it was nice to see Lavery back and Slater get a half. On the negatives, Sharp should have added to an otherwise better performance with a goal, we perhaps launched it too often 2nd half, and Carruthers had a lot of difficulties today.

Blackman 7/10 – solid, claimed when he needed to, barely tested otherwise.

Baldock 7.5/10 – could have been excused for easing off and playing it careful given recent injuries. Not a chance – was his usual level of performance.

CCV 7/10 – solid. Still gives free kicks away cheaply, but otherwise fine today.

Wright 7/10 – solid, first time deputising for JOC that I can recall seeing. Fine defensively, but offered nothing in terms of overlapping.

Stearman 8.5/10 – MOTM, excellent. Intercepted, cleared his lines, won everything in the air, confident on the deck. He played the central role of the 3 perfectly.

Lafferty 7/10 – thought he did well, looked quick going forward, tried to support the attack where he could. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come in for Stevens at some point in the next month.

Basham 7/10 – back in midfield, and did well enough.

Carruthers 5/10 – I mentioned at half-time his erratic passing, and it continued 2nd half. He wasn’t lacking effort, and got into some good positions, but too often made terrible choices. Several terrible set-piece deliveries today too – very frustrating. His dithering on one free-kick also got Wright booked for time-wasting 2nd half.

Thomas 7.5/10 – liked the look of him, and always looked keen to shoot when possible, capped off with a fine strike. Picked up a slight injury before being subbed at half-time. Based on today I’m surprised he hasn’t had more opportunities, and I would say he’s worth a spot on through bench at the minute.

Lavery 7/10 – lots of effort, no real opportunities on goal, linked well enough. Not sure what the future has in store for him really – wouldn’t be surprised to see him loaned out if we get another striker in.

Sharp 7/10 – link-up play was fine today, and his running created a couple of chances, one of which we couldn’t convert after he’d got in with the keeper stranded, the 2nd was a poor miss for him in the box. Went on to create an excellent opportunity for Carruthers with a defence-splitting pass. He needs a goal, and to cut out the immediate falling to the floor when the ball is hopefully played up to him.

Subs:
Slater 7/10 – looked composed.
Donaldson – caused problems when he was on, shot blocked at the end.

Fans 10/10 – excellent.

Good win Blades and cracking goal from Thomas...a worthy match winner.

Just seen a video on Facebook of wilder pushing slater towards the crowd, really nice touch.

Love this club.

Nothing new with Carruthers, said during preseason and the first few games of the season that he lacks the final bit. That's the difference between him and Duffy, a footballing brain.

Not heard anything of the game until just now, from the reports it sounds like a good performance from the back up guys and no injuries to senior players,

Can’t ask for more than that.

Now on to the main business on Friday.

fantastic from blades. im always delighted to progress in fa cup. as i love this competition. espically to be as comfortable as we were that with 8 changes. corker of goal fron thomas. although i still worried about Baldock stearman CCV & basham. playing too many minutes ahead of the derby

but today's fa cup result is meaningless & will quickly forgotten. unless we win the derby on friday

It's what you call good man management. Wish we had that were I work.

Wilder may get in trouble after that shove.
The PC brigade will see that as bullying at work.
Great footage !
What a dressing room he has created.
