Going to be controversial, but I would stick Duffy at RWB. The space our wb's get, Duffy could create havoc

Personally, I would put CCV at right wing back, his amazing pace and Athleticism mean he could be a real hand full and we know he has an eye for goal, with Stearman back we have plenty of options at CB, so CCV to play slightly out of position at RWB might be a good fit for this game and see how it goes with a view to changing it up if it is not going well.

I believe CCV has played right back a few times for Tottenham youth so this is definitely a goer. Basham gets my vote personally as the tried and tested option but I wouldn't be surprised at all if this happens.

At the very least I'm sure he'd do a better job than the time Adkins decided to play Ben Whiteman at wingback.

I think he would give a better balance on the right wing, he as some motor on him, I thought he had played at RB for spurs as well so not totally inconceivable, I know what you mean about Bash and agree to some degree, I just think the more athletic CCV might be a slightly better option and give the team the usual fluency to them, down the right side. :)

I've missed it, or forgotten it. Can someone clarify exactly what Bill's injury is ? Looked so innocuous at the time.

Is the title of this thread in the ‘Now, that’s what I call misleading titles 2017’ DVD?

Hope CW sticks to his round pegs in round holes policy and brings the young kid in who played against Walsall, if Freeman’s not fit.

It hasn’t. Our quality has. Players win points, not numbers separated by dashes.

True that players win points but fielding players in such as way as to optimize their attributes also contributes. We’ve all seen how much better Freeman looks as a WB than a RB, Duffy being better as the number 10 compared to a traditional winger, Wright being best suited to the sweeper role in the 3 at the back. Our players have won the points but our formation is tailor made to get the best out of them.

Precisely. I agree, but it devalues our talented players to suggest that ‘formation’ is the key reason we’re doing well. We are superbly well organised but within the system the players have great licence to showcase their individual ability. It’s what good football is all about.

I don't know what Wilder will do if Freeman's out, probably be inclined to play Basham there. However, if it was me I'd be tempted to change to a 4 at the back.

CCV - Stearman - JOC - Lafferty - Because CCV can play comfortably at right back but not so comfortably at wing back I suspect, and Stearman is better suited than Wright at RCB with 4 at the back. Lafferty is also better in a 4 than Enda. That should provide a decent platform.
Basham sat in front protecting the back four. Having him in there means he can switch to RWB and we can change the system to 3-4-3 in the click of the fingers.
Fleck - Lundstam holding things together.
Brooks - Duffy playing in more advanced midfield roles, operating in the space between. Can also drop back and flood the central midfield if they have to or drift out wide if CCV and Lafferty are getting exposed.
Donaldson Was quiet against Forest but was playing with only Duffy in behind him. With Brooks in there as well, I can see him having a lot of chances and probably taking one or two.

Bench:
Sharp - I was torn about Sharp as I'd usually like to see him starting at home. but I just don't think he looks his best when trying to lead the line on his own. Needs a partner. I'd probably look to bring him on for Duffy as he tires if we need a goal. No better striker outside the Prem to bring off the bench if you're looking for a goal late on.
Clarke
Thomas
Carruthers
Stevens
Wright
Moore

With those 18, we can play pretty much any system and I expect we'll probably see variations of 442 3412 3421 at some point as the game changes.

Also, on the subject of The Don... Easy to forget that this will be his home debut if he gets the nod. What a treat it'll be to play in front of a packed BDTBL, especially after playing at that mausoleum St Andrews 1/3rd full every week for three years. I'll be backing him to bag a brace.

He plays any position!
His tackles are critical!

Everyone needs to be doing the ‘dum dum dum dum dum’ bass line before each line.

Give the back of the kop a good old whack. That'll do a job for the bass line :D

---------Sharp--Clarke
---------------Duffy
------Lundstram- Fleck
Stevens-------------------CCV
---O'Connel-Wright-Basham

That'd be my choice. Possibly swap Duffy with Brooks, but either way they'd be a like-for-like sub at some point in the game.
Even if Stearman is fit, I wouldn't start him ahead of Wright- he's been out for weeks and Wright has absolutely commanded our back line. I think it'd be risky to start Stearman ahead of Wright when he's cemented himself as such an integral member of our defensive unit— but maybe I'm biased because he's one of, if not my favourite of our current squad.

I'd say CCV at RWB is our best option given the current injuries and suspensions we have- as a more defensively minded option he'd hopefully provide a bit more cover that we're missing in Coutts' absence.

Agreed. Like with most subjects discussed on here it’s multi-factorial and absolute answers citing one reason for our excellence will be wide of the mark. Talented players deployed in a system in which they are superbly drilled and that capitalises on their strengths whilst minimising their weaknesses. A wonderfully balanced team with some very talented individuals.

Very bold to line up without a keeper. Goalie wag?
