So why wait until Kmac goes before bringing him in, why not have both instead of loanees like Coady?
I don't know Raul, I asked myself the same question... But Weir works in mysterious ways doesn't he...

I don't know, but I am assuming Coady is having something paid towards his wages, therefore, not affecting our wage structure to the extent a permanent signing would.

Woah, slow down.

I'm hardly gazing wistfully into the past dreaming of McDonald with nob in hand.

Just wondering what it tells us about the investment and plans for the first team.

That said, I'd still prefer a team with McDonald AND Baxter.

If losing McDonald created a need for Baxter AND Cuvelier it's a price well worth paying.

One thing I'm curious about in the context of the investment is the K-Mac transfer. Being as this has been ongoing since January and you would feel highly likely for a couple of months, does the K-Mac transfer mean:
a) that we 'sensible' in our offer to him, or
b) that the investment isn't quite as much as we're getting excited about.

I suppose it could have come down to Wolves having bundles of cash with their parachute payments, but still, it's surprising that we don't go all out to keep him given his impact on the first team.

KMac stated that he felt it was time to move on. He has done, so we move on.

McDonald was wanting away for quite some time. Despite efforts to get him to stay he decided to leave. Weir then gets the ok to sign a replacement and goes for Baxter. No complexity in any of it!

Just to say though, the "We're better now without McDonald" claims seem to be a little presumptuous seeing as we've not even seen Baxter's role or performance in the team yet!

I'm over the moon with getting him in, but given our performances without McDonald so far this season, I'm not giddy with anticipation to be without him going forward.

It's a fair assumption to make though :)

A thought on the McDonald transfer: maybe the management team at the Lane looked at the situation objectively and made an offer to him that they felt was a good one but that offer was still lower than Wolves'?

I can't imagine that we'll sanction ridiculous wages regardless of the amount of money being pumped in. All the talk over the summer has been of "sustainability"; the offer to McDonald would have fitted in with that.

FWIW I was disappointed when McDonald left as he was the kind of footballer I enjoy watching but he did have glaring weaknesses in his game: the only position he could play in Weir's formation is the no10 owing to his lack of defensive capability. I'm more than happy with the signing of Baxter on paper because he seems more suited to that role and am hoping that it works out on the pitch.

I think what grafikhaus meant was that its going to be a very busy next few days and you and foxy are going to need all your strength to maintain this beautiful forum. Given that you're such a domestic goddess and foxy is so helpless without you, you'd better prepare some fine, nutritious delicacy to fortify yourselves.

Right, grafikhaus?

Surely there was more than that on football heaven. Piggys had a special for Mandy and cloud 9.
Tuesday should be interesting.

Er, yeah, right, I think. :D

Just been to take a look at Fowlstalk and it's intriguing how their myopia keeps blinding them.

They'll be reyt, rebuild etc whilst we're languishing over the championship trap door. Seems to have been the story of my lifetime whilst supporting the Owls.

Ah well, good luck to em. vvankers

That c*nt Walker is such a fooking Pig.

Could be a major coup for the Blades, but equally they have previous form of talking up foreign help (Esan etc).

Anyone remember Sheffield Wedneski? And that joker Lee ('Bring yer paint brush') Strapon?

Weir is robson reincarnated. Same antiquated rubbish. This division is a 4 4 2 league and thats what we need. Today was awful. A not impressed blade.

I don't get it. We were shit last week, we are shit this week. Why do people think the addition of one player will turn us around? Thankfully the people in charge are aware that we need some extra quality in the squad and are trying to do something about it.

This is all promising and I don't really know what to make of it.

KM keeps 50% of a new partnership with the mystery investor investing in the football side? As the best way to recoup all the money lost is by getting to the PL (and then not spending a penny) is by footballing means, I just don't get what is in it for our mysterious investor, and frankly, I've never understood KM's stance of someone purely investing in the footballing side, but I guess we will see what it all means.

Timings aside, I am sceptical but hopeful. Cue Jacob Esan's brother :(

When we exorcised "hoof", we seem to have also thrown out "tempo" at the same time*
I mentioned it after Bradford, but it's pointless trying to play football in our own half, what we need is to get forward with pace and start exposing teams, there were signs of it 1st half at Bradford as we tried to get around the back.

It sounded again that McMahon took every set piece, which means waiting for him to arrive. We can add tempo this way by not letting teams settle. If they know that they have to wait 30 seconds for the corner taker to arrive it gives them chance to set themselves up. If we keep the tempo up and keep them on their toes they will hate playing us.

Under Warnock and Blackwell we used to try all sorts of clever and sometimes daft routines, we need stuff like this again. Don't let sides settle, make the lane a place teams dread coming to because:
We put teams on the back foot
We make teams play in their final third
They never get a rest.

All of this will help the tippy tappy football that Pinchy wants too :)

Being shit with a goalscorer makes you look ever so less shot though.
