A lot of this has been covered elsewhere but here goes anyway:
  • 26 outfield players trained
  • high intensity training game Tuesday, included Bob
  • The Beard - back on track but not available at the weekend
  • 26 is too many will sort that out through the business side of things
  • looking for permanent moves in JTW
  • striving to improve
  • working hard to get promoted
  • aim to go up this season
  • aim to win the League this season
  • Hammond having a positive impact
  • looking for one or two new players - have to be the right players
  • wants an energetic pressing side [this has been more and more evident to me at any rate in recent games]
  • need to use the ball better
  • stick it in one end, keep it out the other
  • Howard and Long are competing for number one spot
  • implies Long will play in cup games
  • tough league
  • total respect for opponents
  • learned from three promotions out of this division
  • goals against too many
  • never underestimate your opponent [this is the Art of War reference]
  • talks about how Crewe keep possession well
  • aware of the challenge they pose but we want to play our game

We went to Yeovil a few months ago and lost so it is possible. As regards the interview if I could be arsed I'd dig out Cluffs from this time last year and he'd be saying the same thing - saying and doing are 2 different things. As regards January we need to start looking now knowing how long we drag deals out. I'd be amazed if any club took some of our stragglers on loan.

The "keep it out at one end" is becoming a bit boring now. It ain't happening.

"We have got to be at it"

Hopefully he means for most of the game not brief spells, we will wait and see.

We will probably have to pay other clubs to take them off our hands.

Mmmmmmmm, obvious clichės except I haven't seen evidence (on the pitch) of Hammond being any kind of impact and this is not a tough league, we are a poor team with a few good players (and manager) in a piss poor league

Give Hammond a chance. He's only just unpacked his suitcase. He's hardly played this season.

I don't care about the, Crewe keep possession, Crewe pose a threat, they clearly haven't caused many teams a threat as they're bottom of the league, a poor league at that with 2 wins in 15 games.

I'll accept nothing less than a win in this one.

Yes agree totally - and if the opposition keep the ball, you press high and go and get the fucking ball - all it needs is fit and committed footballers, playing as a team. Press high, make them pass quick and a team of Crewes undoubted shitness will lose the ball. That's why they are bottom because other teams have proved they are shit.

The problem of pressing high comes back to playing further up the pitch as a team - which means you have top have quick central defenders in case they do happen to drop lucky and get behind you.............oh dear and there lies our problem - same this year ,same last year.

Meltdown Monday will bring a whole new meaning!

Didn't say I wasn't giving him a chance just commenting I've not seen the positive influence yet (on the pitch) that Adkins eluded to.

Same for five years now. We got away with it first season under DW1 because the rest of the team were literally another level but since then it's been an underlying problem no one has successfully addressed.
I think for a brief period of time Clough thought he'd cracked it with Bash and McEv at CH as they were more mobile and better technically than most L1 CHs. Unfortunately they're not CHs and had to play above themselves in terms of defending and couldn't sustain it, particularly McEv, plus the failure of Coutts to do Basham's role in CM meant Bash had to be moved back into midfield.
Basically, if you're the Blades, whatever can go wrong, will.

Yep, agree with most of that.
Clough never cracked the problem and if he had addressed it, he would still be at the club now.
The whole CM & CH situation pisses me off immensely - don't think Hammond is the solution either.
We can talk all day about Done/Billy?adams et al - we still haven't solved the 4 key positions and by the time Hammand gets match fit, he'll be toddling off back down the M1 to Leicester.
Hammond might be part of the solution, but not with Basham. Where I disagree, is I would like to see Coutts and Hammand in CM.

But surely you didn't expect to, yet? It's like taking a laxative and wondering why you've not immediately shat yourself.

You're not really disagreeing Fulwood. What I meant was last season Coutts struggled in most games, occasionally showing a bit of class. NA seems to be handling his rehabilitation better, possibly because he's had more midfield options available, and he could yet be the player we thought we'd signed.
If he could put in energetic performances for ninety minutes, if we can get him back to that, I'd like to see him and Bash with Jose in front of them in a three.
Coutts taking the ball from the defence and passing it around, Baxter unlocking their defence for our lively forwards and Bash just running around and putting himself about a bit. (I'm all for a bit of nominative determinism).

Bollocks. I meant Hammond, not Basham.

It's been a long week.

With all the hype I was expecting to be covered from head to toe in shite ;)

There'll be a Crewe centre forward who we make look like Pele reborn. Stats probably don't back it up and I can't be arsed to check but my first thought with Crewe is "relegation fodder but always seem to outplay us".

I expect we will win, but I somehow expect another disappointing performance, hope not.

Could be a deal breaker tomorrow, must win game.

Take the cliches away and you wouldn't have an interview. Boring to listen to.

Hammond having a positive impact? Give up. He's been nothing but a disaster so far, as predicted.

Crikey.... Hammond hasn't even played two full games for us yet has he? Bit harsh to call him a disaster.... and the kind of (overly) negative reaction IMHO which just might make us an unattractive proposition to talented footballers who we might want to bring in.....?

Hammond has proved himself as a player and a leader at this level and above. Let's give the bloke time to unpack his suitcase, get to know his team mates and settle in. I have high hopes for the fella and what he can bring to our (still lengthy) campaign. Admittedly it's a 'hope' but based on Hammond's record of success in the past and the fact that Adkins appears to rate him so highly... I'm willing to back the fella. Wouldn't surprise me to see him made captain if his stay extends January. I'd be delighted if things had gone well for him/us and that turned out to be true.... UTB!

I'm a big Adkins fan.....but.....

Too many words. Get on with it and do the talking on the pitch. Pleased Brayford is getting fitter, we need him back. Don't give a shit about high intensity training. I'm interested in high intensity performances on a match day.

I don't care what the aim is, I want to know where we will finish. Stop talking about Crewe and paying respect to shite opposition. Give them a hiding and face the criticism if you don't.

In other words less talking more doing.
