Entitled 'what do YOU want from SWFC' ?

Some of the answers are interesting enough, including some who seem to want what we currently have, but I asked myself what I would want from SUFC, and I'm struggling to improve on what we actually have right now.

I don't even particularly covet the Premier League, there is a part of me thinks that what we have now wouldn't be sustainable if we went up.

Thoughts ?

We have to aim for the prem, but I agree that that prospect isn't as appealing as it should be. Money has skewed everything. Today on R5 an agent was talking about the possibility of players earning £1 million per week. Utterly crazy and part of me hopes that the whole hedonistic edifice comes crashing down. Being a Blade right now is wonderful. We play a great style of football, have an honest set of players, a down to earth manager and a club that takes a genuine interedtvin its community. It'll do for me!

Agree, but it would all change if we were promoted to the Prem. Hate everything about that league, but can't help wanting us to get promoted, as that, after all, is the aim each season, to be the best.

i know its ridiculous to say this but i dont want promotion because we have big underdogs on paper v likes of Wolves Derby Sunderland Villa. never mind 2 Manchester clubs Chelsea & Spurs. we would need serious investment of probally £40m+ to not be embarrassed like derby 07/08 getting 1 win & 11pts when they came up 1st yr of a 3 yr project

Understand people questioning whether they would want to see Utd actually go up, especially as the premiership comes with all the silly money, biased officials, corporatism, and blatant cheating. That said I've always wanted Utd go as far as they possibly can up the leagues. If that means the premier league then bring it on.

Youve got to go for it if the opportunity comes along and you can't have regrets if it doesnt quite work out over time. It's about giving it a go. My take on it is never be afraid to reach for the stars. Cos even if you fail to quite get there you will have touched the sky.

As an aside, if we did go up into the premiership (still a long shot i admit) then I'm sure we would compete. That would be enough for me.

I want exactly what we have now.

Skilful players who’ll run through brick walls for the cause. To enjoy going to the match even when we lose. Value for my money and not going home miserable, another weekend spoiled. Icing on the cake being above the deluded and them eating their words.

A small part of me worries about getting promoted. I hate the Premier league and all it stands for. There’s more attractive opponents in the Championship as well, and we’re not paying stupid money to watch them. But we all want to be the best we can be, and that means going up.

Let’s do it and leave the pigs down here (or even better the pub League)
That truly would be extremely satisfying after all the shit they’ve given out over the last few years!

Huddersfield spent around £50m and it likely won't be enough to keep them up. The prospect of needing to spend around £100m just to get average premier standard players scares me to death. Not to mention the ridiculous salaries that go with it.

But there were a few who thought we couldn't sustain last season's success in the Championship? You'll never get rid of the amateur 'experts', they're part and parcel of what every club has to contend with......the simple, unedited evidence of just how good we are, and what this club can achieve, can be seen by looking at the current Championship table. We're in our stride, we've got excellent players. When one gets injured as Freeman did yesterday, then we have the prospect of Baldock replacing him. It's only those outside the club who have yet to wake up to the fact that we have better than average players, and in many case we have excellent players. No doubt we'll continue to strengthen, and if anything should keep players on their toes it's the prospect of an even better player being signed who might take their place.

I'm sure Chris and Alan are keeping their feet firmly on the acceleration pedal, and the attitudes that they've instilled in the players will be reminded and reinforced as and when they see fit.
We haven't attained this level of success by accident, hard work, intelligence, and a very sound knowledge of professional football is at the core of why we're doing so well......does anyone seriously think this has happened by accident? We're where we are for a reason. We're good enough, and more than capable of progressing to the next level.

....but imagine turning over teams who's players are earning a million week rather than 50-60-70K a week!

UTB!

I'm sure we would compete we probably wouldn't take a point off the big 4 'pool and the arse are always susceptible to dropping some but the other teams just aren't full of supermen some are just like us, well drilled teams! We may come straight down, that is expected anyway and we will get battered the 5s 6s 7s, man city after 8 games are averaging scoring 3-4 goals a game! We need the money more than most other clubs as are owners aren't that rich my only worry is that it would upset what we have here and if relegated it takes several seasons to recover.

But the big thing is, for two years after we get 80 million pounds for two seasons, then if the money is used wisely we could consolidate in the prem like stoke city have

I want us to become an established Premier league team, not a Swansea who seem to be fighting relegation every year but a team who can hold more than their own up there.

So long as Sir Tufty is in charge I'd be more than confident he'd handle the transition to the PL. Burnley & Dyche and Bournemouth & Howe have shown it is possible.

Totally understand people's attitude towards the Prem but having watched us since 1981, i just want to see us have our day in the sun.

For a club of our stature a European campaign, or a cup final (or even win), shouldn't be a pipe dream over a lifetime.

It probably tells a story when I can say I honestly think we're playing the most attractive pleasing football I've ever seen us play.

I didn't start following United at our lowest ebb for the glory, and growing up expected little. However i do think as a club we have a duty to strive to achieve our potential.

I understand people saying they're happy being in the Championship only, but how does that work after seasons of going nowhere? We're all enjoying it now obviously but how will we be feeling in 5 or 10 years if we've finished 7th to 20th every season?

yeah well look at derby only challenged for promotion once since they got promoted 2 years "early" & i know football too much that let say we have a crystal palace start which is very possible. chris wilder will get sacked & i dont want to lose who is on course to be 1 of our greatest managers

CW does and if we as fans don't then he WILL leave (at some point)

We may have to do what Burnley have done and be a yoyo team for a couple of times.

We cannot possibly turn down £100m+ and think just of a possible failure - we HAVE to give it a go.

Sorry, but coming 2nd or in this case being just Championship, is the time I'd pack it in.

CW has the ambition to manage at the top level and we should all go along with it, even if it means failure first time round.

I want to see the Blades win every match. Now whether I like it or despise it if that wish of mine is to be realised then we will end up in the premier League.

What do I want from my club? Turn back the clock to the Adkins era. There were a number of posters on here expressing grave concerns that we had lost our identity, both on an off the pitch. Not sure if the club listened but the appointment of Wilder, his team and his methods have given us our identity back. I recognise in myself everything that is going on at the club. In a perverse way I feel we should thank Adkins.

I couldn't ask for anymore. Apart from keep winning those matches.....

I'm an oldie now and been watching since early 60's. If we got to the prem and consolidated our position to a regular mid-table outfit we'd be back to the position we were in when I started watching. Meh.

Give me a fucking cup before I pop it.

I think our last experience of the Prem has collectively soured our taste for it, and understandably so.
There is so much wrong with the top level of the English league. Biased refereeing, corrupt officials, clubs awash with money they didn't earn, lack of homegrown talent, need i go on.

Marry this to a squad and manager that, last time around, were ultimately just not good enough and you get the inevitable heartbreak that followed.

Personally i'm really enjoying life back in the Championship. I'd honestly much rather be facing sides such as Derby, Fulham and Forest than Stoke and West Brom. Our level of success means we may well be getting ahead of ourselves.

But ultimately, what can we do? It's impossible for me to ever wish us to lose a game. The only logical conclusion then is that i want us to get promoted and win the prem as well as every other competition under the sun.

The thing is, if we had some other competent manager in charge who generally did ok, but is not an inspiration like the one we currently have in charge, then i may look at promotion with some trepidation.
However, because of the special nature of the club right now- the team, the fans, staff, atmosphere, and our manager, if we don't have high ambitions now we might as well never do.

Pragmatically, it would make the most sense to keep on doing things the way we're doing them, aim to get into the prem, established and then go for a cup win. That would be more success than most of us have seen in our lifetime.

Then we can go for the Premiership title...

I'd like to see us in the Premier League, just to see how we'd do with our current style. We've played a couple of Premier League teams this season and we held one to 0-0 for 60 minutes and beat the other, maybe 80% strength squads but we'd also improve if we got there. And it'd be nice to have the improved coverage, multi camera highlights etc but really, and Brooksy could progress with us, as he's eventually going to want top flight foorball, but really on the pitch I can't ask for anything more. We try hard every game and win lose or draw as long as we keep trying and play our football I'm happy.

To be fair I've watched a lot of football this season, I've been to or watched every United game, I've watched a lot of other Championship games and Premier League games on Sky and outside of Man City the EPL has been worse to watch. Some great teams and exciting players in the Championship, but we should still be aiming for it.

Most of what I want is ground improvements, I'd love to see a new Kop and possibly a new Kop corner, without the restricted views. Something between the South stand and the Kop would be nice, something with more disabled seating in it perhaps, and some executive boxes/TV stuff because we probably wouldn't need the extra seats if we rebuilt the Kop, but I don't like the idea of just putting an office building there.

Bit of cladding or paint on the brown concrete of the South Stand would be nice too but not a major issue.

Oh, and maybe a bit more investment to quell that thought in the back of every Blade mind that we're going to sell all our best players haha

We've got it pretty good at the moment though so I'm not complaining.

Oh, and a cup run would be nice. We'd get some nice VTs on Match of the Day.
