Quite interesting that some think that anyone "hating" the current PL set-up means they, therefore, don't want to "win every game".
Completely different things in my opinion.

I was talking after Saturday to a former work colleague who I hadn't seen for a few years. We're both of a certain vintage (remember the 70/71 season as early teenagers) and we were in agreement that this time, here and now, is THE best time we've known as adult Blades. The football is sublime, every game feels like we're going out to win and, even if we don't, we'll have left it all on the pitch and given it a right good go. I can't think of one game, since we started the run against Oxford, where I've come away unhappy with OUR efforts.

We've got to the top flight, and stayed there a while, since the Harris era, but never been as consistently joyful on the eye, as we are now (a few months during 02/03 being the last time I thought we were close to this level of entertainment).

I have no "fear" of the PL, but no desire for it either. Waiting to set off on Saturday I was watching Liverpool/MU and, frankly, if that's what we aspire then we best make the most of now, because there is no joy at all watching football as dull as that. My desire would be for the "TV six" to fuck off before we get there and give the game back to entertainment and not the simple pursuit of money.

My real desire would be for THIS team to give the FA Cup a right good go THIS season, as some players might not be going the distance with us if we do go up and they deserve the chance of immortality (and that's what an FA Cup would give them) before we outgrow them.

Ironically our best chance of an FA cup win might be before we get to the PL , as most teams disrespect it so much, and I've no reason to suspect that we'd be any different.

Draping tarpaulins over our stands?
Putting prices up to £50?
Making our own shirts?
Having our own global beer brand?
Having our own environmentally friendly no emission taxi company?

Is that what you meant, or perhaps not quite that 'big'?
No, playing in the PL and winning trophies.

I didn't know you were an astronaut Digger?

Funny you should mention that Cerb. I've done the tour of Cape Canaveral about half a dozen times in the last 20 years. As for the mortal coil I've told the trouble & strife that I want my ashes laying down at BDTBL though. :)

To all those saying they don't really want us to be in the Premier League..

... fine I fully understand your views...

... however don't then complain when the likes of Brooks and Coutts and Fleck and Stevens and O'Connell leave to join clubs who are in there.

If getting to the PL meant keeping hold of talent and giving us a financial base on which to build I'd love to. If it means McLarens, Bentleys and Lambos in the car park with only a handful of the players who have served us so well in League 1 and the Championship getting a shirt I'm not so fussed.

As much as I like them, players like Leon and Sharp wouldn't realistically survive in the PL and that would be a shame. I look at Burnley and they've had to buy someone for £15m to play up front and score a few, we'd have to do the same. The wage structure and hunger of the players to play for the shirt would go and I think they would be replaced by mercenaries no matter how people like to think differently. That's the holy grail though I'm told.

Agreed but sharp and Clarke won’t play for ever and we can’t live in the past we have to move onwards and upwards and deal with the consequences of success. In Wilder we have a manager that will keep the players feet grounded and it is essential that we keep his aspirations alive. UTB

Yes that's 'big'.

It's not 'massive' though as there is little chance of SWFC doing that any time soon.
I think with Wilder we have our best chance of going up since Warnock and our best chance of staying up since Bassett. I hope it comes to fruition.

If you didn't live around such a big fucking corner then it wouldn't take so long for the taxi to get around it ;)

The sad thing about reaching the Prem. would be the 'need' for higher class, higher paid players and the honest pros who got us there would be discarded. Or would they under Wilder?

We've hopped up one league and kept the squad mostly intact, why not a similar approach next summer?

Loads of fancy dans plying their trade up there as there are in the Championship. Let's give 'em a dose of the S2 recipe that is sweeping all before it right now. Should it get us promoted this season the momentum would be irresistible.

We could do it on the cheap because honesty and group spirit is worth so much. Think back two months when a number on here were saying we had penny pinched on quality signings.
