They have a lot of dormant "fans" who will jump on the bandwagon as soon as there's any faint hope of being there when they have a rare chance of winning.

League One Play Off Final being a classic case in point.

Mrs B's family are non-attending pigs. I've known them for 16 years and I can barely ever recall a point where her dad wasn't in on a Saturday because he's at the pigsty. He spends his Saturdays playing golf or cricket.

Her auntie who hasn't been to a game at Hillsborough since she was a child suddenly decided she wanted to go to Wembley and her lad who's a Liverpool fan from Northampton decided he was going too.

Simply more hangers on from the late 80's/early 90's who have long since lost interest but will come out of the woodwork when there's a chance at glory, if getting promoted from League One counts as that, just so they can associate themselves with some vague success.

They're like rugby union fans when the 6 nations come on every year - all of a sudden experts with their stupid Guinness hats on but are nowhere to be seen at Sale or Newcastle in the piss rain in the winter in front of one man and his dog.

This describes Wednesday fans in a nutshell. Basically because Wednesday were the bigger club in the past, particularly from the 60's and 1982 - 2000 era, they've retained this glory looking fanbase which in their mind gives them the impression that they have the bigger fan base. Only for the big days out like Wembley visits. They were scratching around 12,000 in the early 70's just like we had our lower crowds in the mid 80's but it's like Wednesday fans have a very selective memory.

Cant remember which game it was this season but the BBC football website gave the attendance at Hillsborough as 7,900 (ish). A couple of hours later it was changed to 23k (ish). The apparent reason is that they forgot to add in the season tickets (who didn't turn up) into the overall attendance. So, not even presenting a true reflection of how many fans were actually there. Typical of the wendies though manipulating facts to prove a point although I'm not sure what the point is they are trying to prove?

Every team counts season ticket holders in the attendance. We do it. Newport County will. Hampton & Richmond Borough will.

The match you're talking about was against Middlesbrough when they were trying to force Chansiri out. Initially reported at 7,081 but officially 21,578 tickets were sold. For what it's worth, that means they had around 17k season tickets last season but I'd not be surprised if they outsell us in 2026/27 as their fair weather fans crawl out of their pits.

Literally every single club does that, including us. The attendance numbers are tickets sold.
