Good evening all,
Just thought I'd update you on the progress of the Inter Blades so far this season.
We didn't start the season too well, losing 3-1 away at Halifax in the opener. Having said that it was a decent performance considering we'd an eleven man squad (much depleted) comprising of two debutantes, a keeper playing up front and our Manager in goal to help out, to make matters worse our main striker was injured early on so we played the majority of the match with ten players.
Things didn't get any better in the second match, a home fixture against Champions Preston. We seemingly had a decent squad available for this one, but a number of late drop outs and several no shows on the day meant we started this match with 10 players and one borrowed from Preston. Needless to say we lost 7-1.
After a bit of a rollocking/rallying call, we picked ourselves up and the next fixture was away to a decent Hull City side who we haven't beaten for a few seasons. The lads turned in a much better performance and came away with a 6-4 victory.
A fortnight later we faced another decent side in ASC Ilkeston at home, another good performance earned us a 2-1 victory. A fortnight later again saw another home game against Barnsley, a side that had finished 5th last season and beat us on our home patch. An excellent performance saw us win 6-2. We followed this up with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Grimsby Old Skool to make it 4 on the bounce.
Unfortunately we slipped up on Saturday morning just gone, losing 2-1 away to the other Grimsby side, the Internet Mariners (aided by a fantastic shinned volley own goal by Liam Wasden!
). We struggled to get going, but hopefully it's just a minor blip.
Before Saturday's game we were 8th in the league (http://www.freewebs.com/ifastats/1011table.htm), we may have dropped a place or so depending on the other results.
EDIT: The next Inter Blades fixture is away to the Donny R'sonists this Saturday lunchtime. The match kicks off at 12:30 at Rossington All Saints (CE) School[!]8206;.
If anyone is interested in keeping up to date with Sheffield's 2nd best team, then all the info etc. is on our website: http://www.interbladesfc.co.uk
Despite recruiting a few new players, we've lost a couple too, so we're always interested if there's any decent players (Blades) out there that are interested in representing the fans team of SUFC. If you are then contact me on [email protected] and I'll be happy to fill you in with all the details.
P.S. We'll shortly have a new squad photo available wearing our new kit sponsored by local Sheffield company "Access Credit Management". I'll be making a proper announcement with photos once all the kits are fully ready etc.
cheers,
Danny B.
