Injury crisis v Manager ability.

Hecky has the best attackers in the league And he doesn't know how to get the best out of them

Are these the same attackers that include two of the top six in the league and play for the team who've scored most goals in that same league?
Maybe we should look for a manager that can make us more top of the scoring league than we are?

In reality we've been able to put out a very strong team all season despite the injuries. It's a bit of a miracle. I'd expect us to be top 6 with what we've had available

The test is coming now our line up is genuinely disturbed, and so far we've failed the test

If PH carries on approaching it like Tuesday we'll have more injuries in no time whilst continuing to drop points

Exactly right. The sheer volume has now finally impacted our XI and is forcing us to either (1) change shape (2) play players out of position (3) throw in the academy lads.

We've not coped well so far but it's understandable.

Losing our right side, to go with our left is unsustainable in terms of keeping up top 2 form.
But if we can maintain midtable-like form up to the world cup break it should ensure we're still in the top six and in with another shot at the top two thereafter. Anything over and above that would be really good work from PH.

Baldock was injury was caused when he fell awkwardly after he went for a header at the back post at the end of the first half and he did it then. Berge was injured as a result of being pulled off balance so neither of those were caused by tiredness or fatigue. Both did play in two internationals as did Egan. Ndiaye was on duty with Senegal but not sure how much travelling there. Those players would have all been less than 100% on Saturday. Players are not machines so not surprising that one or two were off it on Tuesday. Bogle had a great first half but must have been done by the time he was subbed. One or two others may have had minor knocks from Saturday. I think there was going to be a full review of all these injuries to try and establish if there are any common denominators. Not heard any results of that.

We are always the same, heavily reliant on three or four players.

Bit like in the Prem we were heavily reliant on one, JOC.

When he wasnt available the entire system went to shit and our ordinary players looked, ordinary.

Let's be right, if Berge, Ndiaye, Anel and Egan were out injured we wouldn't really care who played because it would be a quite horrendous, disjointed performance no matter who was playing.

Those four players hold it all together enabling the rest to do their jobs properly and play well, without them fit we are very average.

A manager saying his players are tired is an embarrassing admission of inadequacy.
And provides great encouragement to our rivals.
Tend to agree with you Keen. The notion of players being 'tired' seems bizarre to me - unless they have sleeping problems. If you're fit, surely you can play two or three times a week. I get tired, but I'm a retired 70-year old academic with little or (on truth) no professional football experience. But professional footballers in their mid-20s surely don't suffer from being 'tired' 😴

Nope. Wouldn't play Bogle beyond a few mins here and there till he was fully fit and could do 90.
How is he going to get match fit and able to play a full 90 if he only plays a few minutes here and there? 🤦‍♂️🤡

When the starting 11 are on form not many can touch us but does that happen much in a full season when you have your first 11 all fit and firing

He doesn't know how to use players like macatee/khadra/brewster and just reverts to chucking sharp on as his go too tactic when chasing it IMO
I don’t think Watford would agree with your first statement and neither do I !

FFS what kind of threads are going to pop up if we lose at Stoke?

Some on here can't wait for the manager to fail. Especially with their sweetheart now free.

The clown sat next to me was almost wishing for a Brummy winner on Saturday. We do have some utter melts in our fanbase.

The injuries the other night were more down to QPR's shithousing and crap officiating.

He’ll have a name ready for that new manager.

We have scored the most goals because we have the best squad in the league and the best attackers

Its not because of some tactical genius IMO

Could name you about 10 Sean

And yet, we had the same attacked plus MGW at this time last year when we were amongst the worst scorers in the division (and if you take away a fluke against Peterborough, we were just about the worst).

That just shows how much of a bad fit slav was for us as a club and style of play

Hecky is a good fit and has gone back to what we did under wilder

However there are far better managers out there

Been a busy couple of weeks at work so not been able to keep up with things on here and I'm quite pleased that I havent after reading the mini meltdown caused by a couple of poor results.
Looking at the games played over the last week we have played against a Birmingham team having a resurgence and proving very difficult to play against.
They came to do a job by staying solid at the back and hoping to catch us with the counter. They were happy to get a point and if it werent for a lapse of concentration/shocking marking of their main striker then it would have been 3 points.
QPR had a similar game plan of turning up not to lose with little desire to win the game either. Both teams did everything that they could to spoil the game. The thing I noticed about the QPR game was that every time we started to build momentum, they had a player down injured or took forever with throw ins, goal kicks etc.
Again, their goal came from a lapse of concentration where Foderingham has to be disappointed with himself for being beaten so easily at his near post.
It was then a case of them defending what they had.
It was very fine margins. A lot of people are getting a bit excited about the results. On another day, we take some of our chances (Billy when sent through against Birmingham) and we are then talking about a hard fought victory against Birmingham or we take some of the chances against QPR and get some of the decisions our way (Sander's shirt swapping in their area) and we are talking about a draw/win against a tough team.
As it stands, we are 12 games in and sat in 1st place with an average of 2 points per game (autos form).
We are going to have ups and downs through the season. We also have a strong squad that will have us in or around the top 2 at the end of it all.
Stay positive Blades!!!!

A sensible post! (Hecky said in his interview that the goal was a result of a deflection, not a mistake by Wes.)

He never left Shirecliffe
Dont know where u get that from, made up?

At some point it moves from being bad luck to poor fitness and conditioning. Every player who gets a slight injury in a match is out for a minimum of a few weeks, something isn't right.

Not sure who's to blame but it can't all down to the training pitch can it?!
The training ground will not be an excuse at the end of October. https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/game-changer-inside-sheffield-uniteds-25199893

Something that happens occasionally during a season, even to teams at top of league.
Not desirable but not disastrous either.
And if you're still top after this, can't be all bad.
This, I’d much rather we have a tricky spell now than on the run in.

Thought the training pitch had been done? So they can’t use that excuse anymore.

Poor conditioning and players going full pelt in training is the likely cause.

We play a high press game and are told that we train at full tilt. This has got us to where we are and works when we have a full squad of players, however has a high risk reward. Meaning that we run the risk of injuries due to the way we play which forces the players and their bodies to be on the edge all the time which results in injuries.
We either keep playing the way we are and risk injuries or pull the throttle in and rely on skill, tactics and organisation to get the points.
Playing the way we are with no injuries no one can touch us, but now may be the time to throttle back a bit although how we fine tune the transition and then ramp it up again is difficult

If, as is being suggested!, Berge is out for about 6+ weeks, Baldock for 3-4 weeks and Bogle, N'Diaye, RND, Bash & Sharp have not trained fully due to knocks picked up mid-week!. If 1 or more of the 'Knocks' can't play then, along with McBurnie being banned, today's line-up could be like piecing together a jigsaw without the box to look at!. This may be the most 'square peg in round holes' line-up in many seasons.
We can only hope for the best and that whoever lines up can get a result today, I believe we have enough quality/depth in the squad to take something at Stoke.
Desperate times call for desperate support!

How do you feel the season is going overall?

Given the unsustainable levels of injuries we have done incredibly well. I'd say with a full squad we would be a very good bet for a top 2 finish.
The fact remains , compared to our rivals we are accumulating crippling numbers of injuries . Luck is not involved. Something isn't right. Got no idea what factor/factors are the cause but whatever it is needs addressing urgently before all the good work is undone.
Not losing today under the circumstances would not be a bad outcome. A return to winning ways fantastic.
