Whilst I do believe Wilder has made some poor decisions in terms of transfers and failing to find an adequate replacement for O’Connell a large proportion of the goals conceded seem to have come from errors and bad luck that he can do nothing about.

If you go through the games we’ve played so far in nearly all of them a ball just ricochets nicely for the opposition or someone drops a clanger. Yes you can say if you are constantly playing negative football you are bound to make mistakes in the defensive third as you spend a greater proportion of the match in it but it really seems too many at this stage in a season:

Wolves 2-0 Ramsdale should stop Wolves second nice height and not really in the corner.

Villa 1-0 Egan caught ball watching and then rather harshly sent off, Lundstram misses penalty

Leeds 1-0 Berge fouled in the build-up to Leeds goal

Arsenal 2-1 Awful performance all round can be no complaints

Fulham 1-1 Lookman gets a nice deflection off Basham straight into his path

Liverpool 2-1 Stevens decides not to mark 5ft5 Jota at the back post

Man City 1-0 Walker allowed to run up to the 18-yard box unopposed but good strike (perhaps harsh).

Chelsea 4-1 See Arsenal

West Ham 1-0 – Shocking clearance from Ramsdale and poor marking from the midfield but blocked shot once again drops perfectly for Haller to hit.

West Brom 1-0 – Poor Clearance from Berge but drops nicely for Gallagher

Leicester 2-1 Fleck loses the ball cheaply instead of getting rid but is unlucky that it drops perfectly for Maddison and then Egan should perhaps take Vardy out.

I do take some hope from the fact we aren’t getting hammered every week although that does seem make the defeats harder to stomach. This run of individuals making bad decisions and unlucky deflections surely cannot go on all season. Yes it will take a miracle from here to stop up but we should be dead and buried after 11 games with one point and were not. There are two or three dreadful teams down there with us and I’m pretty sure it won’t be 40 points to stop up this season. UTB

I take your point about a bit of luck, but quite a few of those are individual errors; like you say and I'm not sure how Wilder can affect them. I think there's a bit of a chicken and egg situation, with errors and form. If one gives, we can maybe start to accumulate some points.

I must add, we probably got lucky against Fulham with the penalties at either end. Overall, I think if we were on 7/8 points, it'd be more aligned to where we 'should' be (draws versus; Villa, Leeds, West Ham and Leicester. Win against West Brom - possible draw against Fulham).

I don't think it's refereeing decisions really. We've had a harsh red card, but also been given two really soft pens. We were also fortunate not to go down to 10 against Leicester.

I do agree we could have more points on the board though. To keep on getting beat by such fine margins surely can't continue.
I agree it's individual errors though, lack of confidence up the top end and a lack of understanding and organisation at the back.

Pinching at straws a bit for me slightly unlucky a few times but mostly we’ve let opposition walz through and bad defending plus knowone to score goals consistently when you can’t score more than 1 per game and concede at least 1 it’s the team to blame I just don’t think we’re good enough too many individual errors at the minute don’t mean to be negative but that’s how it’s been in my eyes past 11 games we’ve made a rod for our own backs

To be fair on reflection I agree completely, refereeing wise we can't really complain we've had some softish penalties. The mistakes and errors of judgment seems a vicious cycle we need to break. Mistake is made, heads drop so more mistakes are made, repeat.

Egan took a red card against Milwall in the promotion season as confidence was high and he backed his team mates. On Sunday he did everything he could to avoid touching Vardy and I think thats symptomatic of the mentality at present.

Definitely fine margins - you are correct. But to add to the fine margins

Rammers afraid nowhere near as good as Hendo
Jack O Connell - Massive miss
The Crowd- Massive miss
Our Midfield - Not even 70% of a unit that we were last year.

Given all that no wonder where we are.

But whatever - Keep the faith with CWAK please.

Hi Stegosaurus here

Ramsdale is a liability. If we got, say, Foster instead we'd have a better keeper and some cash on tge hip to spend

Why don’t we sign Chris (I hate crosses) Woods instead. He’s a great shot stopper. Just prone to letting shots go straight through his legs 🤣

Shocking clearance for West Ham's goal? He smashed it to halfway on his weaker foot, do we expect him to be Ederson and ping pin-point through-balls to the strikers now?
Hardly his fault their lad waltzed through midfield unopposed until he got to the edge of Ramsdale's box...

Giving the ball away too many times.thumping balls up to mcb or burke .then possession lost again .having ball in possession for short periods and getting pressed by oppositio and losing it again

Aren't the majority of goals conceded in football due to errors and or a bit of bad luck unless it happens to be a wonder strike where not much could've been done about it?

You can try and rationalise it as individual errors/bad luck but the bottom line is that something is fundamentally wrong or we're simply just a very poor team because it is happening in every match we play. There has got to be some underlying problem here because if they really were genuine and unlikely errors then they would balance out a bit and surely we would've have picked up a few more points by now. But the fact is we've lost every match bar one.

Coulda woulda shoulda

We have more poor quality players than last year and the better players are, by and large, playing poorly. It’s just a really bad team. Some regression was probably inevitable but our awful transfer business has made things much worse.

Some of it is a bit of bad luck but it all comes from sloppy mistakes and poor finishing. Last season we were getting fucked over mostly by VAR but this season its are own fault.

We created enough chances against Fulham and West Brom to win both those games and more. We lost those due to poor finishing rather than just the errors for their goals. If we scored a fraction of our chances in both those games we win them both 3-1.

Aren't most goals conceded the result of a defensive error? That might be something glaring like Fleck's the other day or leaving the WBA player unmarked before, but even something simple such as not tracking a man, losing someone at a set piece or not closing down are still individual errors.

It's rare a team will score without some kind of error at some point.

The real issue is going forward. The overloads aren't working and we don't have a second plan for getting on the ball enough in attacking areas to create enough chances (the WBA game aside). The lack of mobility of our central 3 and each team we play playing high wingers to pin or wingbacks into a back 5 means whoever we play up front ends up completely isolated, unable to told the ball up and feeding off scraps. We then end up kicking it away aimlessly as no-one gets far enough forward, and spend long periods under pressure and posting stats such as 27-28% possession on a regular basis.

One of the main problems we have this season is ball retention. we do not seem able to string passes together and give the ball away cheaply and sometimes in bad areas and then not putting the opposition under pressure to try and get possession back, which puts our defence under constant pressure. The majority of the players are the same ones which put some delightful passing moves together, and pressed mistakes aplenty from the opposition last season, but now wouldn't look out of place in most Sunday League teams.
This is the worst part about this season for me, it is so frustrating to watch the little bit of possession we do get being thrown away cheaply and the defence under constant pressure.
We need to go back to basics and do the simple things again like pass to fellow teammates, put the opposition under pressure when out of possession, then hopefully results will start to come.

Ramsdale decided to put the ball onto his weaker foot instead of clearing it first time he brought the pressure on himself. Yes the midfield were weak but Ramsdale isn't above reproach on this one.

If bad luck is playing a big part then it should even itself out over the season and we'll start to pick up results.. time will tell but I'm not holding my breath.

He takes the ball away from the striker who's sprinting to close him down...

Just imagine the defence without Egan... a scary thought.

It was a poor clearance. He had a clear pass on to either Bryan or Lowe (i cant remember) on the left hand side. But he panicked and smashed it upfront expecting mcburnie to do something with it (the story of our season)

A poor clearance from the 'keeper would be one that doesn't go far enough. Hitting the halfway line is doing his job... it was the failings of others that saw the ball end up in his net just a few seconds later.
(It won't have been Bryan either, he wasn't in the picture then)

I agree but a little more composure from the keeper and that goal possibly could have been avoided, i will try and find a pic

Could have passed to Amapadu however it was hit upfield on his weaker foot which Coufal claims and starts the attack they score

We’ve been working the ball backwards from around the halfway line unnecessarily all season and when you keep doing that , these kind of things are bound to happen .

He should have played it off the forward and then it would have gone out for a goal kick instead of moving it away from him and clearing his lines.... Duh.

He could also have Cryuff turned and rainbow flicked it to Egan. Now I see your point. Completely his fault. He could maybe have even sprinted after the ball and won the header on the halfway line.
