So can we still make it on the train then?

I've tried getting a refund but East Midlands Trains are basically uncontactable/useless.

You can if you can get the 20.03 back from Birmingham New Street to Derby and then change there. Alternative is back via Manchester.

I sent an email to Cross Country trains asking if I could cancel the tickets without charge. Received an acknowledgement but 24 hours later no answer. I'm booked on a train to Manchester at 8.31 and could take an alternative train at 8.01. There's going to be a lot of people trying to get on the 19.36 at Witton and we'll be stuffed if for some reason that train doesn't run

RMT being their usual twattish selves living out their 70s fantasies again I see
That ridiculous 70s fantasy of having guards on trains?

I'll assume you didn't know what the strike's actually about with such a silly comment.

Guards are there to prevent accidents, keep the peace and to lend a hand in the event of tragedy or crime. They save lives. This isn't a strike about wages.

No, that fantasy where we're still in an age where our employment laws were still not fully developed (although a lot of stuff was in place, like equal pay, which remainers, despite that law coming into place before we joined the EEC, are somehow worried about it disappearing after Brexit), that striking was a suitable option to take when your negotiating team can't or won't come to the table, or if they do, come with reasonable demands in the first place, and that striking still has widespread public support. The franchise I use is bending over backwards and offering a deal that I'd kill to have in my job, yet the RMT are striking yet again in the new year causing me inconvenience and directly costing me time and money for no reason.

Re: safety, time and standards move on. We have stuff running on our rails today that's driverless, let alone not having a guard. I suppose to be even safer we should go back to having someone walking in front of the train with a flag to warn of its approach?

I’ve checked and double checked the Trainline and National Rail apps a few times and getting there suddenly seems to have become a problem. It’s still doable but direct trains Sheff to brum are now showing as 08:54 then next one 15:24!

Keep hoping I’m doing something wrong happy for someone to tell me I am! Was going to take match tickets back yesterday but we decided to go for the 19:36 from Witton and get the 20:03 brum to Derby. Getting there seemed ok.

I’m out of town now til late tomorrow so I can’t take the match tickets back.
