Just had the following passed on:

I have just been informed that Cross Country trains have called a strike for the above date (23/12/17). This will have a big impact on the Sheffield United fans travelling to Villa Park on this day. There will be trains to get down into Birmingham, but there will be NO trains back after the game and Cross Country will not be providing road transport in replacement for those trains cancelled.

Maybe the Club could get an idea of number of supporters affected and then provide coaches for return journey based on handing in a relevant train ticket/rail receipt on boarding coach?

As it's Christmas :)

FFS! Was looking forward to this! I travel from Manchester so it's not like I can utilise the club coaches

On a normal saturday the timetable shows its feasible to get back to Sheff via Leicester and is marginally cheaper but takes longer. Trains from brum to leicester every 30 minutes but they are cross country again so it depends on exactly which trains they cancel.

so what does the club "earn" from TV for the away club?

United could, as an Xmas gesture, lay on Coaches for all fans who don't want to go via car.

UTB

edit: apologies Harris - just seen your post

I think I read somewhere that the home team gets £100,000 and the away team £10,000. Don't know where I read it though so can't back it up with anything!

The Cross Country Website isn't terribly helpful.

Further strike action by the RMT union for December

Updated: 13.12.2017 - 11:38

Unfortunately, the RMT Union has announced a number of strikes over Christmas and the New Year that will significantly affect CrossCountry train services. The dates affected are:

Saturday 23 December, Sunday 24 December, Wednesday 27 December and Sunday 31 December

Please note there are no CrossCountry services operating on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

In the event that these strike dates take place, CrossCountry will be operating a reduced service, but with some longer trains. We advise you to travel as early as possible, as services may finish earlier than normal and some stations may have no CrossCountry services. Although alternative travel arrangements will be prepared we expect all our services, and any replacement bus services, to be very busy.

Our priority is to keep you informed, updated and on the move, so please check this page again for up to date information before you travel.

If you have purchased a ticket for the affected dates marked ‘XC ONLY’ or ‘CROSS CNTRY ONLY’ this will be valid to travel on an alternative CrossCountry service between Saturday 16 December and Sunday 7 January, but as close to the original departure time as possible.

In the event of any delays to your journey, we will operate our Delay Repay Scheme against the revised timetable (in line with our Passenger Charter). You can make your claim using our online form or by collecting a form from any staffed station.

If you have a query on a journey you are planning, please contact us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, or alternatively please contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484 950 or click here for the website.

Due to a large number on enquiries we have received, it may take us a little longer to respond than normal. Please be assured that if you have received an email providing a CrossCountry case reference, your claim is being processed and a response will be issued as soon as we can.

Yes or No Slightly!

Same shit when we played Wulfs at Cardiff, after buying train tickets they told us they could not guarantee getting us there before the kick off.....

City council laid on some coaches as it was a bank holiday. It was like a keystone cops movie as the coaches all had to travel in convoy.
One coach pulled off in the middle of Wales somewhere because he running short of fuel , so we all had to follow.

Only to find we had pulled into a lay by.

What a fun trip.

RMT being their usual twattish selves living out their 70s fantasies again I see
Yeah all disgruntled employees should doff their caps and scrape and bow down to their employers in gratitude for them being so lucky as to have a job.

So what if they're being screwed to the wall, they should be grateful for what they've got.

augers well for the northern powerhouse , super train thats going to cost us all thousands of pounds in tax to pay for it
birmingham to sheffield in 45 minutes to 4/5 days depending on the vaigries of union whims

So you know what the dispute is about?

Strike action was announced on the 17th November.
The management walked out of the talks.
The management wanted to change terms and conditions including imposed Sunday working.

Thank fuck someone stand ups for workers rights otherwise we might end up with millions on the gig economy, inactive, pseudo self (part-time) employment or zero hours contracts, oh Wait!!
The real unemployment rate is 9 million.or 21.5%

Only a couple of hours via Virgin and Trans Pennine Express, and even time for a swift half in Manc. There may be later trains too, I didn't check. But will the other companies honour the tickets?

If the train from Birmingham stops at Stockport you would be better getting off there then you might have time for a couple of pints :)

It might be tight getting the 19.57. Game should finish around 19.25
