And now according to the RMT website bands of "scab managers" are to man the trains on Sundays, taking over the responsibility of telling passengers "there's no bar or refreshments on this train today, excuse excuse excuse" in a sneery voice you know means "get fucked".

Ah, the happy days of the 70's. And we thought horrid Mrs Thatcher had spoiled everything.

Just think how great it's going to be when Corby gets in!

Some rail employee will be on soon telling us how they're all underpaid and this is a good idea. If so do what most employees do and find another job where you feel you might be more appreciated instead of ruining other people's days/nights. Wankers
Fuckin hell are you for real ? X2

I'm flying in from Manila and have trains booked from London to the game, then "home" to my family direct from the game.

If you don't turn up to work in Manila, you don't eat.

Cunts.

Good job this country's laws differentiate between taking legally balloted industrial action and "not turning up for work" then.

In Manila you can also be executed on the spot for smoking cannabis, so if that's your model....

Not looking good this just tweeted cross country and they have said last train to Sheffield will be 19:03!

Just get an Uber FFS. If you can't afford it, tough. Should have got a better paid job.

bastards
someone should invent a way that people can go from A-B without been reliant on others. like a train, but smaller - say only big enough for 4 or 5 people. Then rather than be limited to tracks we should build long strips that people could travel on, meaning they can use this new thing everyday. This would mean people can make their own way somewhere, and not be sooooo reliant on 19th century technology.

She did spoil everything. Ordinary working class people, not hedge fund managers, made more financial and political gains in the 70's than any other decade, by their own efforts. That's why the establishment hates the 70's so much! Anyway, UTB, and hope everyone with tickets gets to Villa Park on Saturday.

Fuck sake, was looking forward to having a skinful for this one, but can’t be arsed now so i’ll just have to drive instead.

These trains are Cross Country and subject to industrial action according to National Rail travel web site. As Pedro Verde says the only option is on the West Midlands train change at Crewe but there's only one coming back. Some of the connections from Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly are West Coast Virgin trains they aren't currently identified as subject to industrial action but could be. Best route avoiding Cross Country and Virgin trains is below;

Witton to Birminghan New Street 19.36 - station 5 mins from ground and 10 minute journey
Birmingham New Street to Crewe 20.01 arrives 20.57 - West Midland Trains
Crewe to Manchester Picc. 21.30 arrives 22.14 - Arriva Trains
Manchester Picc. 22.22 to Sheffield direct not stopping at Stockport arrives 23.15

If West Country Virgin trains are running then get 21.19 Crewe to Stockport arrives 21.44 instead.
Stockport to Sheffield 21.52 arrives 22.31
Does the 19.36 from Birmingham New Street have a buffet car or is it trolley service only?

You clearly know nothing about Rodrigo Duterte then.

I have literally lived in the Philippines for 18 months. The punishment for possession of marijuana is jail time and they are currently in the process of legalising it for medicinal purposes.

Ah right, my apologies.

It must be the 13,000 extra-judicial killings of other drug users that makes the Philipines a model nation....

I am well aware of Duterte's war on drugs, thank you, which is why I was able to pick you up on your nonsense about cannabis. Though the way the UK press reports on it, I can genuinely believe that people back home do actually think you can be shot for that.

You know exactly what I was getting at with my comment. I wasn't suggesting that the UK should model all of its decisions on the Philippines, as well you know. My point was that striking is a luxury that many people don't have and people would do well to remember that. Maybe I should have spoken about nurses, who are criminally underpaid for the work they do and yet they never strike.

I'm not a fan of strike action, my views were formed at Uni during the early part of the last decade when the fire service were at it, and cemented by living in London for 6 years where the RMT seemed to call strike action every other week, usually about more money and holiday for already handsomely rewarded tube drivers. They have a disproportionate amount of power, in my opinion.

We aren't exactly talking about children losing limbs and forced labour here, are we? It's about "work-life balance" according to Mick Cash. Yet they choose to work in an industry that requires work to be done on 7 days of the week. I've always worked in the gambling industry, out of choice, and surprise surprise I have to work a lot of Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays when the football and racing is busiest. Boo fucking hoo. They always pick the busiest days to cause maximum disruption and to fuck with everyone else. Cunts.

As I alluded to, if you have a problem with people exercising their democratic rights to improve their conditions (or "luxuries" as you call them) then Manila is indeed probably better suited to your worldview.
Enjoy your flight.

So 'nurses are criminally underpaid for the work they do and yet they never strike.' Could there possibly be a connection between those 2 facts?
