If the train from Birmingham stops at Stockport you would be better getting off there then you might have time for a couple of pints :)
\

It does

1 hour 27 minutes Calling points
20:15Wolverhampton
20:28Stafford
20:44Stoke-on-trent
21:02Macclesfield
21:14Stockport

You could even get the 20.30 train from New St and get home easy enough via Manc or Stockport

These trains are Cross Country and subject to industrial action according to National Rail travel web site. As Pedro Verde says the only option is on the West Midlands train change at Crewe but there's only one coming back. Some of the connections from Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly are West Coast Virgin trains they aren't currently identified as subject to industrial action but could be. Best route avoiding Cross Country and Virgin trains is below;

Witton to Birminghan New Street 19.36 - station 5 mins from ground and 10 minute journey
Birmingham New Street to Crewe 20.01 arrives 20.57 - West Midland Trains
Crewe to Manchester Picc. 21.30 arrives 22.14 - Arriva Trains
Manchester Picc. 22.22 to Sheffield direct not stopping at Stockport arrives 23.15

If West Country Virgin trains are running then get 21.19 Crewe to Stockport arrives 21.44 instead.
Stockport to Sheffield 21.52 arrives 22.31

They're Virgin to Manc and TP express to Sheff. Are Virgin workers taking action too?

Thank feck I changed me mind to go Sheffield vinyl record shopping by day, boozer with me brother by mid afternoon, game on Sky early eve, Heeley boozers after and then curry at The Everest with our lass and his bird to end the evening.

Mega bonus points already awarded by our lass for 'sacricifing' going to the match (at a useful time of year to get brownie points In the wood) for 'what she wanted to do'. And trust me our lass' loyalty points scheme is a completely different kettle of fish than the United one!!

Anyone grass me up to her that I couldn't get there now and they are dead!

My mates who is a Wolves fan just pulled the Wife brownie point card to avoid watching the pigs tonight with me down the pub..
Or it could be he's just avoiding me. :)
To be fair he's just text to say he's corporate tickets for the Wolves game.

Anyone else coming to the Everest for a free meal on CB?

Birmingham to Manchester route is now Cross Country. Virgin aren't taking any industrial action so West Country Virgin trains should be ok.

There should be self driving trains in the next few years. The management will be able to sack all the idle bastards then

Boy am I glad I decided to skip this due to the late kick off and being the day before Xmas eve.

Saves me the hassle of applying for refunds all over the place.

Did the same. Always do the Brum games and look forward to some top boozers but family and Christmas took precedent. TV neither here nor there in the decision.

Would have gone on the train so may have dodged a bullet. Feel for those who have booked.

If it's about driver-only trains then I support them. I don't want driver-only trains

Just wish they'd chosen a different day, obviously
Not DoT's
It's about Imposed work rosters, including compulsory overtime and Sunday working.

Worse conditions than a zero hour agency worker!
''Compulsory overtime'' just shows what an utter bunch of cunts Arriva/Deutsche Bahn management are.
Just employ more staff you bastards.

Arriva management just announced the next stop is the workhouse.

Now I've had a few drinks (and have train tickets for next week) I'll just add my own comments .... FUCKING BASTARDS!!!!!

I blame the tickets point system, if it favoured the young 'uns on much less points I wouldn't have wasted all my money o on matchday and train tickets !!!!

Some rail employee will be on soon telling us how they're all underpaid and this is a good idea. If so do what most employees do and find another job where you feel you might be more appreciated instead of ruining other people's days/nights. Wankers

The striking rail workers have my full support.

Also, I'm travelling on a nice comfy coach so I'm alright Jack.
I'm sure the would-be union-busters on here will appreciate my smugly selfish attitude...

The modern Labour Party. I'm all right Jack.

Because of this my butler can't go. Booked the train and everything. Wanted to stay over but I wouldn't let him have the Sunday off. Or come back with me in boot of the the Bentley.

Yeah all disgruntled employees should doff their caps and scrape and bow down to their employers in gratitude for them being so lucky as to have a job.

So what if they're being screwed to the wall, they should be grateful for what they've got.

What do I do when I’m disgruntled with my bosses?

Fucking hell, are you for real?

How's about employers treat their staff fairly instead?

If they don't get paid enough they should change careers or change employers. I'm assuming when they signed the employment contract they were happy with the pay or they wouldn't have signed in the first place.

Deliberately disrupting the travel arrangements of people who have nothing to do with their situation is a ridiculous way to go about asking for a pay rise.

Except it's about the forced imposition of a new contract and nothing to do with their existing conditions...

Peoples working lives are more important than our leisure time.

Then don't sign the contract and find another job.
