iFollow - Good news for exiles - streamed games

I'm hoping it's a typo & they meant UK & Northern Ireland. We get 3pm games on a Saturday which isn't allowed in uk so I don't see why we wouldn't get this
That's what I first thought, why would we get 3pm kick offs but not this.

You wouldn't be arrested for personal use of a vpn, I doubt it is even a prosecutable offence. Pubs would get in trouble if they put it on though

Fuck me, the Police haven't got enough staff to deal with assaults and burglaries, I think we should all be pretty safe watching a dodgy internet stream without worrying about five O putting the front door in ;)

I can see there being many many private Facebook groups that exploit this. I wouldn't have thought it would have an adverse effect on attendances though. In fact clubs may be better off with this service if there are literally thousands of overseas subscribers. Not to mention subscribers that circumvent the geographical restrictions with cons and the like.
It's all win win for everyone me thinks :)

Looking forward to this.

I can see attendances dipping across the leagues over the next few years, due to certain dodgy illegal streaming devices out there.

Take it from an Exile. I'd happily swap the throb of the lane to a streamed game any day. I'm VERY happy this is happening, but if I had the option, I'd be there in person. Any fear that this will keep people away from the match is misplaced IMO. YES some will watch in the UK via nefarious means, but the loss in tickets will be insignificant compared to the revenue this will bring. People will continue to go the match and the numbers who are arsed to sort out and pay for a VPN will be meaningless.

All Premier League games have been available via streaming for years. In the US all weekend games are available on NBC Go, including the Saturday 3pm KOs. I don't think attendances have been impacted too much.

It won't bring in much at all. Let's say 2000 people fork out at 100 quid a pop. That's 200k. Then you must subtract tax, the EFL's cut, the technology and and the cost of a professional commentary team. Doubt the Blades will see more than 75-100k out of the deal.

It'll absolutely make financial sense for them to be going down this route. If not, they wouldn't be doing it ;) The NBA system is around £90 a year for a single teams season. They average 20,000 in the stadium each game - suggesting a similar sized fan base to the Blades and associated revenue/subscribers - and the NBA has 82 games a season - almost double the number of the Championship and therefor double the production costs.

Basically, we're paying 20 odd percent more, for half the costs to the production company/EFL/Clubs from a similar sized customer base. In effect, UTD will be making more than double the money a team like the Chicago Bulls will be making via this route....

It's not just for exiles though is it?

It's for anyone who can't make it to the game. The sick, the henpecked, the holiday makers, the workers, even the couch potatoes who prefer to stay home and listen to the commentary on radio then ring in and put the world to rights.

Always remember Brian Clough saying "live football on TV would be the death of the game "
That was when the Prem was first mentioned !

Anyone else having issues playing the videos? Using a Samsung mobile and the screen just goes black when I press play. No indication that it is loading up or anything.

Blades player always worked well for me as well.

That's cos it's live streaming and the season hasn't started yet! Were you expecting a testcard?
ifollowBlades also includes what was Bladesplayer and it is still not offering the full match replays that I was planning to re-watch over the summer (apart from a random 2nd half of the AFC Wimbledon home game). This is not on when they are charging for this so I will be asking for a partial refund.

I was going to sign up to Blades player on the strength that I'd be able to watch back some match replays of our fantastic season. I think I'll hold off until the technical issues are sorted out.

I've not got any issues and it works a treat. Pick a game and watch away.

well that's how it's looking for me any road, don't know if any others on here can comment on of they are able to see the archive footage for last season (or any other season)?

Just one of countless examples of change for change's sake fucking things up.

Absolutely nothing wrong with any of it as it was before.

Are they going to show all games live now instead of replays? The price just doubled or tripled..

Isn't ifollow just for overeas viewers?

I thought that but when I go to the old Bladesplayer address www.player.sufc.co.uk it redirects to www.sufc.co.uk and the only option I see from there for videos once I log in is ifollow so I guess it's covering both? Not sure though, all seems like a bit of a fuck up to me.

Put Chris Wilder in charge of the IT team I reckon ;)

Edit:second half of AFC Wimbledon beckons after the Europa final ends!
