If your not a Sheffielder, how did you come to support the Blades??

I was born in Sheffield but left Sheffield before I became a Blade.

Moved away when I was 7 years old and my older brother changed his allegiance from the Blades to Scunny (where we had moved to)....I said in that case I was going to support the Blades!

Remember my first game being in March or April 85 and remember it for a freak snow storm...unless I dreamt it!

I always say my first game was Maidstone at home in the cup in 86 though. Remember everything about that day, and was fascinated by the red and white striped nets.

Have a one year old boy and really hope he comes to love football, and the Blades!
I think Maidstone was 89 ...

I remember the game ,I thought I was in the Army at this time but I didn't join until jan 89 ...
We won 1-0

What a crock of shite. I've known loads of Salfordians over the years and none of them would describe themselves as being from "West Manchester". They are proud lads from Salford.
Agree snake, I live in Salford and they are proud as fuck, 'West Manchester' ffs? Stego is a pig yank (must ask him a few questions about Salford at some stage) UTB Bobby

Exactly mate. You obviously know far more than me, but in my experience they might drop the M word in from time to time - as most people from Greater Manchester do, but they would never ever describe themselves as being from "West Manchester". A big own goal there from our resident piggy.

Was a student in Sheffield living near the ground in 1991. Wondering what the loud rumbling noise was every other Saturday. 3 of us decided to go to the Man United home game. It was a Tuesday or Wednesday evening and Shoreham Street was absolutely wedged. I think it was ticket only and I didn't have one.
A total stranger comes up to me and asks me if I'm a Blade. Obviously I said yes. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a booklet, tears out a ticket and hands it to me. He says his mate is a season ticket holder but couldn't make the match. I offer him some money but he refuses to take anything.
Hooked from then. Got a season ticket the next year (along with one of the lads from that Man U game), stayed working in Sheffield for years but eventually had to move back to Ireland for family reasons.
Just one example of why Blades are a different class of fan.
Here's another: I was working in 1993 on the day tickets for the semi-final v Pigs were being sold. I (along with the mate mentioned above) had a season ticket so we were entitled to 2 tickets each. My then girlfriend agreed to queue up that day with the 2 season tickets and cash for 4 tickets to the match. The queue was hours long and when she finally got to the front she was told that although she had 2 season tickets with her, she could only get 2 tickets (2 tickets per person). A family who had been queuing behind her picked their baby out of the pram and handed it to her to hold ... 2 people=4 tickets! (My avatar should make sense to some who were at that game. That's the flag we brought down to London).

In short delighted to consider myself a Blade. Massive percentage of the fanbase are totally sound. Very few racists/ bigots etc. (I've even heard our supporters have a go at other supporters for racist comments) I (despite the broad Irish accent) always felt accepted on away trips etc.

Born in Cleethorpes but with a grandfather who played for the Blades in the 1920's. Saw my first game at the Lane with my father and cousin at the beginning of the 1970's against Liverpool who had Keegan and Toshack playing against Currie, Woodward and Dearden. Why not support the Blades as a Lincolnshire boy. My second club is Grimsby as my home town team.

Leave it with me Sir, when I have more time, I will start on him. The pig ..yank! Maybe I'll start with Salford Lads club? lol

Born and raised Angelino. Worked at a summer camp in 2007 with a lad from Sheffield and a huge Blades supporter. I had next to no interest in football at the time with the exception of going to a few LA Galaxy games as a child. He talked about the history of the club and seeing his passion got me into the club.

Over the years, I did what I could to watch, listen, follow in any way I could. it’s only been in the last 4 years that I’ve been consistently able to find streams or radio of live games.

Now I would call the Blades my obsession.

Slugger I/we always welcome the Irish lads, and indeed any accent at the Lane...……………..once a member of the Blades ...always a Blade! However, maybe sometimes a bit of an interesting conversation wi a thick Sheffield accent lol

Well I'm bilingual at this stage. I've had a few trips back over the years bringing a few new converts and I've had to do the translating.

Good old Cleethorpes. Spent many a childhood weekend at Arnold Palmer's putting, then fish and chips at steels.

So, living in Barnsley, you had the choice of both Barnsley clubs and you still chose to be a Blade! well done that man!
I'm also from Barnsley. Dad a lifelong blade, been to every ground going. Think my grandad was as well. And they grew up in Kendray so fuck knows why

Most people I know from over the hill, Oldham/Rochdale way would rather say they are from Lancashire than Greater Manchester. Salford definitely a city in its own right

Brilliant story that pal. I have no time for bigots or dickheads in general. I think its brilliant that somebody comes to live in our city and chooses to support the Blades. Good on you! 🤝

My older brothers supported local teams (one Brighton & H, and the other which were the team at the time, Spurs). As I didn't want to support the same as them, and one of my teachers at school whom I liked came from Sheffield decided to support United. Yes it was that simple.

The first game I remember was getting beaten by Burnley in the 6th round of the cup 1-0. The writing was on the wall then, but I have hung in there, and can remember the likes of Derek Pace, Len Allchurch, Joe and Graham Shaw, and the great Hodgy.

I used to go to a lot of London or Brighton games, but don't get much chance now, so I support from afar.

You get to enjoy the good times, as they are few and far between, but for those fans who are glass half empty, remember this.

Throughout all those years until pretty much the present era, we have always sold our best players just to keep our heads above water, and there have been some good ones we have had to sell.

How much better we would have been over the years if that wasn't the case.

My Dad, grandad and almost all my uncles are blades but I'm from Fareham (Hampshire) Me and my brother started supporting United in themid eighties, first game was Oldham at Bramall Lane (2-0 win in 88), then witnessed a 2-1 defeat a bit Blackburn (Scott sellars master class a year later) I live down south and put up with a lot of crap from Southampton and pompey fans. For once I'm having the better of it though, so thanks to Chris and the lads for that!
I used to live in Nicholson Crescent in Fareham.

My Mum and Dad were in the forces so I was born down south but moved from base to base. My Dad was a Rangers fan from Glasgow but mi Mam were a true Blade off the Manor Circle......My first match was at the age of about 10/11 on the BLUT with my Mam and my sister who unfortunately turned to the dark side in with the Chelsea fans.....Blades won 2-1 with Jim Brown saving a penalty.......it was a mad day, fighting absolutely everywhere but my Mam walked through the lot of them with us in tow.
