If your not a Sheffielder, how did you come to support the Blades??

Born and bred in Cork City (not far from a certain John Egan, although I've got a few years on him. My mates are involved with Bishopstown GAA club and meet him regularly!).

My reason for being a Blade is daft really. My best friend and myself used to follow the the old Division 1 almost religiously and used always take a keen interest on the promoted teams each season and how they would get on.

I immediately took to Sheffield United due to the crowds and atmosphere at the games, as I was attending my local team's games (Cork City FC), and it reminded me of the atmosphere at those also. Two things that won me over completely, the first goal in 11 hours v. Villa away and the reaction to that first win v. Forest. The rest is history after that.

My first game was the season opener v. Reading in the 96/97 season (it was my birthday), where I nearly passed out due to it being a scorcher of a day and I was out the previous night and may have overdone it slightly as I was completely dehydrated. It was a shite game, Reading won 1-0, and I couldn't see properly anyway. Barely made it to the shop after the game to get some sort of liquid into me. (Tried at half-time but the queues were too epic to deal with).

Had a season ticket for the 03/04 season as I was living in Grimsby, that's a whole other story...

I’m from the United States and have never lived in the UK, though my family is originally from Yorkshire. My middle name is Sheffield! Been a blades fan since 05/06, when English football finally became regular on American television stations.
OMG you're Geno De Campo lol (irritating little Italian on our TV), I think it's great that people who never been to Sheffield but still Blades it's one big family.

My Dad's side of the family are all from Sheffield with United in the blood - my grandparents lived on the same street as Billy Gillespie, my Grandad went to 1936 Cup final, and season ticket holders in the 50's - 70's. I was fanatic from the age of 10 (United promotion to Div 1) despite living in Norfolk and having pressure to support Norwich, Liverpool, Man Utd etc. I went to several games a season up until my early 20's when I got my first season ticket and went home and away for years. Now living away but go to as many games as I can.

Moved to Sheffield from toon land, all the idiots were Wendy fans including the little poison dwarf french teacher who also supported them, swung it towards the blades, that, and I got free tickets for a match down at the lane.

God I hated that french teacher, she looked like a little fat piglet/fowl, unhappy memories lol.

You get hooked being a blade I am originally from North Yorkshire, never liked Leeds even when they were in their early 2000s prime and never a glory hunter. But the blade are so shite they were good, I remember the wooden seats in the North stand and some terrible but great footballers in the mid 2000s. School friends thought I was mental but I went to a FA Cup game for £10 and got addicted. Kenny, Geary, Kozzy, Morgan, Bromby, Tonge, Montgomery and Brown and a mix of different forwards from Kabba to Andy Gray to Danny Webber to Luton Shelton. Its bizarre could never put a finger on it but once a blade always a blade

Brought up in late 50s/early 60s in the Fens (another one with 6 fingers) and nearest league team 20 miles away was the Posh & all the kids at school were glory hunter fans following Man U, Spurs, L'pool etc. Wanted to be different and I remember the very first footballer card I got from the chewing gum pack was Graham Shaw. I became a Blade and he was my first hero.

Couple of years later my old man took me on the train to see my first Blades match at Leicester where despite Doc Pace scoring past Gordon Banks we lost 3-1 and at full time I was only a few yards away from GS with autograph book in hand before being hauled back by a copper. I was broken hearted.

A few years later as a teenager I got the train to Sheffield with some school pals to see my first game at the Lane - that fantastic 3rd Round FA Cup win 2-1 over First Division high flying Everton (1971). What a game, what an atmosphere on the Kop! Two Woody crosses - two brilliant headers from Addison & Reece...

Blade for life - through thick & thin - and there's been lots and lots of thin!

It's sad right now but it's not as bad as Givens missing that penalty in injury time that relegated us to Div 4 or that gut punch at Stamford Bridge when Stein relegated Harry's team in the last seconds.

We are Blades and it is never easy for us and we don't expect it to be...

We'll bounce back (at some point) & when we do it will be all the sweeter.
In my time CW's team of the past 2 years just about edge the John Harris team of TC & Woody for playing the best football. (I loved the passion of the Harry Basset teams & he did a marvellous job with the players he had).

Let's give CW & AK the chance to build another team to bring us back. There is no doubt they deserve it from what joy they have given us over the last few years.

UTB

Grew up in North Yorkshire and my Dad worked for the construction company that did the Kop in the early 90s (think it was Henry Boot?) and managed to get free matchday tickets. Most of the kids supported Leeds where I was from.

I remember he was friendly with Derek French at the time and swindled us an invite to the changing room before one of the matches (I think 91-92 season). I remember being amazed at Harry Basset coming off the phone (think it was a payphone!) outside the dressing room and saying "Hello John" to my Dad ! He then asked me who I wanted my photo taken with and I chose Simon Tracey who was shouted at and hurried out of the urinals by Basset to have his photo taken !! I got one with Agana too I think. Fair to say I have been an obsessive Blade ever since!

I always got sh1t at school being the only blade but I didnt care or hide it - best moment for me in those times was finishing above Leeds in 92/93 !

I lived in Bakewell where my dad and grandparents lived for most of their lives. They were all big Blades fans. We moved to Chesterfield when I was 10. I've supported the Blades for as long as I can remember. Remember being on the old laver stand with my dad and seeing Brian Deane. Some of my earliest memories are at Bramall Lane.

I was born in Sheffield and moved away when I was 8 to Bristol. My dad, grandad and whole family are blades. My son is a blade as well. It’s not pretty but it’s what we do. Utb
I started supporting the blades in about 1988/89 in my early teens. Coming from South Cheshire I used to watch crewe alex with a mate and his dad. We were returning from an away game at Chesterfield i think where as normal the alex got beat in front of about 80 away fans!. Getting back near Congleton were endless cars buses and vans of blades fans returning from Port Vale or Stoke. I'd never seen support like it and from that day I was hooked until in the 90s when I was old enough to drive I went home and away

Hi, Stegosaurus here

This is a story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
I'd like to take a minute just to explain
How I came to support a team from Brammal Lane

In West Manchester, born and raised
In Salford, where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing and acting all cool
And watching some football, outside of school

When Sheffield United, were up to no good,
Started making trouble in my neighborhood
Brian Deane scored, and history was made
So I decided then, to become a Blade

I was born in Barnsley. My grandad was born in Sheffield in1889, so it was written in the stars. He attended the FA cup win over Cardiff in 1925. How he got there, I haven't a clue. I never thought to ask him that when he was alive. So how could I not become a Blade. It's in the blood. Whatever the Club throws at me over the years with the few highs and very many lows, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Stegosaurus takes us all for a tit,
If he thinks we believe any of that shit,
His posts are funny, but we don't give a fig,
Because we all know that Stegosaurus is a pig.

Fair question, just been talking to my gaffer, he's from Cleethorpes, supports Arsenal.....
Previous gaffer from Linton, supports Liverpool......
One of the lorry drivers, from Lincoln, supports Man U.......
So just found out there are some glory hunting fuckers about, but why the Blades???

(I know it's the greatest club in the world)...

Grew up in London. Dad supported them all his life and he wasn't from Sheffield either,or anywhere near it (long story). First match at the Lane 1968 v Blackpool in FA cup. Been everywhere including many seasons where I only missed a couple of"home" games. Have Blades mates I've known for over 40 years. if my old man had just supported Chelsea or Arsenal I would have had cup final and Europe memories instead of Darlington and Leicester. Great though they were. Wouldn't swap it all if I could.

Born and raised in Gloucestershire but Dad and family from Frecheville....he used to pick me up early from school for all the midweek games, with a giant flask of tomato soup, and we’d fly up the motorway for KO. If we won it was a chip supper listening to Praise or Grumble as the signal faded in and out as we wizzed back down South. If we lost it was 2hrs of listening to him telling me why all the players aren’t fit to wear the shirt!

Big Blade Stegosauras spells 'Brammal' Lane wrong.

How could that possibly be?

Hmmmm.........

What a crock of shite. I've known loads of Salfordians over the years and none of them would describe themselves as being from "West Manchester". They are proud lads from Salford.

Hi, Stegosaurus here

But then it wouldnt fit the Fresh Prince theme

So my old man was always a blade despite being from Doncaster. Never truly found out but he started watching them same time as my uncle. They would both jump train to Sheffield in 70s. I followed in my dads steps eventually, when I was young - until about 10 I was a Liverpool "supporter" as all my friends at school were mainly Liverpool fans as well as Man U, Everton and Leeds. Think my first match though wasn't until 1996 due to my dads work commitments we couldn't get to games, we beat Man City 2-0. I think Ward scored a pen, couldn't tell you who got the other. Remember the atmosphere on the Kop. Loved it and fell in love and have enjoyed the roller coaster ride since!

Oh yes give me Darlo & Leicester anytime mate, many years ago I was taken to London to live for a couple of years (mum thought it was a good idea to get back with the sperm donor who created me). I still kept my allegiance to United through all that time and saw them lose at White Hart Lane.
