Fair question, just been talking to my gaffer, he's from Cleethorpes, supports Arsenal.....
Previous gaffer from Linton, supports Liverpool......
One of the lorry drivers, from Lincoln, supports Man U.......
So just found out there are some glory hunting fuckers about, but why the Blades???

(I know it's the greatest club in the world)...

So your the defecting Wendy fan on here then!! ;)

Over in the UK playing for my football team in an U10s tournament, we went to a Sheffield United game during the tour. We beat Wolves 3 - 0 in the old second division (89/90 season) Most of my team were Liverpool supporters but I hadnt nailed my colours to the mast as it were. Saw the game fell in love, blade ever since.

Grew up in London and my nearest club initially was Wimbledon, so I'd used to go and watch games there. I did go to the Palace playoff final in '97 but I think my Blades-supporting Mum thought it'd be too tricky to convert me. She and the rest of her family were big Blades, and she went a lot when she was younger, but they were all up in Sheffield & Worksop way, and with three young kids my Mum wasn't up for travelling around from London. It was only a few years later though that Wimbledon announced they were moving to Milton Keynes and before I could even start thinking about following AFC Wimbledon my Blades mad uncle swooped and converted me. First proper game was Blades v Arsenal at Old Trafford and I was a fan from that moment onwards, travelling with my mum to every London away game and a few home games a year. And that's continued ever since.

I still thank my Uncle, who was my mum's little brother, in my head for that to this day. Very sadly - and completely unexpectedly - he passed away not long after we'd been promoted to the Championship. I often think about how chuffed he'd have been to see us doing so well. And at least he got to see us get promoted after all those years in League One, when he kept going week in, week out despite everything (like many others did).

I sometimes used to think about what I'd do if I one day have kids and they were interested in football. Every chance I'll be in London for the foreseeable future so I thought about whether I'd take them somewhere local as it might be easier. These past few years I've realised what a stupid thought that was. They will absolutely be Blades.

To me.

48 years ago today I saw my first ever live game @ BDTBL.

Blades 3 - 0 Leeds

Flynn
Dearden
Colquhoun

Came down from Leeds with about 15 others in the back of a builders van.

I was the only one wanting the Blades to win having picked them as my team a few years earlier and followed them via tv, wireless, and newspapers, and boy did they deliver in front of a crowd of 40,725.

None of this loyalty points to get tickets nonsense we all paid on the gate and stood on the Bramall Lane lower.

My love of the Blades was confirmed and we've had a deep meaningful relationship ever since, and I'm delighted that my son continues the family connection having had a season ticket for about 28 of his 35 years.

The 8 hrs every other week spent travelling up to games together from Maidenhead for around 10 yrs as he grew from a boy to an adult (in years if not attitude) gave us unbelievable quality time together and a real bond.

This team has put me through all sorts of emotions over the years but the positive things it has brought to us far outweigh the days of negative emotion.

Thank you Blades.

I have kids 3 & 5 both boys (and another on the way) they are already die hard blades. They watch every game with me, know all the songs (well the clean ones anyway)

My 5 year old was due to see his first blades game v Spurs before the pandemic, gutted he couldnt see us, might be 21/22 season now before I can get him to a game.

Force fed it as a child by me dad. Whole side of his family still in and around Sheffield. Not a single pig in the family. Always caught a match when we went up to visit & take my kids as often as I can.

Whilst I am pitsmoor born and raised, left sheffield at 21 to go to uni and never returned to live there, my son is born and raised in essex. He goes to all the games with me and has done since he was 8, he's 19 now. Hes a died in the wool blade...i can see the emotion in him when we play, win, lose...im so glad he could be on the journey of the lst 4 years, mirrors what me and my mates enjoyed going home and away during the bassett years.

My Mum was from Sheffield and supported United and I lived in Dronfield until I was 18 and have since lived in the south and midlands. My son is 22 and has been a season ticket holder with me since he was 7 or 8. He lives in High Wycombe and i live in Northampton but we still go to just about all home games together. The club has done great deals for season tickets. Next season will be the first he will pay the full adult price. Fortunately I will now get the OAP discount!

My Granddad was from Sheffield and a blade. He started taking my Dad who in turn took me (86/87 ish).
I introduced my (much) younger brother (first game, Reading in the cup ‘98) and we used to drive down from Wakey regularly.
I now live in Lincoln and my two boys are also huge blades - It’s been nice that our rise to the Premier league had coincided with that time at school when everyone has a team and are trying to explain why theirs is the best. I felt a bit guilty that I’d forced a league one team upon them but Wilder soon saw to that!

Two reasons really. Growing up I didn’t know of anyone who had the same name as me. One day a certain “Nathan” Blake scored for Sheffield United and his name came up on the screen and I was delighted that there was someone with the same name as me.

It then so happened that United were the first team I ever watched in real life up at Carrow Road. The rest is history!

Mi Dad was a blade and used to take me to the odd game from being around 2 years old and "ooh ah Bob Booker" were some of my first words apparently 😂

Im from Swinton near Rotherham though and all my mates were Millers and I'd get taken along to Milmoor with them and their parents, I remember absolutely hating it! Then a lad who I used to knock about with when we were about 10 who was also a blade, started letting me jump in car with him and his Dad around 1997. We took our autograph books freshly bought from the club shop and screamed and hounded Quinny, Wilder and Borbokis constantly until they came over to giz a scribble, life changing moments, think I got Kozluks every other week in later years too and always got a handshake off Marcelo 😂 although I'd been brought up to be a Blade, I always rebelled against my Dad pushing them on me until that day, fully cemented into me 100% Blade for life, never looked back. Eventually a Wednesday convert started nicking my seat in the car to games as I'd moved over Kimberworth way, so being a street smart 11 year old lad, I'd catch 2 buses from Greasbrough to Swinton and train to Sheff on my own(wasn't smart enough to get train from Rotherham Station haha) every week. Still get the same buzz walking up towards BDTBL at 32 years old as I did as a nipper, the sights, the SMELLS. It never leaves ya!

Hi guys from Belfast, Blades fan from 88/89 season reason being my bro took me to sports shop in town to get me Jersey for my birthday. As I was keen on collecting football tops them years anyhow I pick the blades and always followed them since. House full of pool manure and Everton so I fairy mixed it up abit.
Blades Family

I’m from the United States and have never lived in the UK, though my family is originally from Yorkshire. My middle name is Sheffield! Been a blades fan since 05/06, when English football finally became regular on American television stations.

For me, my ire is directed less to Wednesday and more to West Ham (Tevez), Watford (white collar elitists), and Arsenal (library for a stadium).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no fan of the piggies, but I love watching the derby. And the Leeds rivalry hasn’t exactly been at the forefront since I started watching.

I end up hating teams that, to me, look like they have fans with no heart, or they ripped ours out unfairly, as is the case with the hammers.

My Dad, grandad and almost all my uncles are blades but I'm from Fareham (Hampshire) Me and my brother started supporting United in themid eighties, first game was Oldham at Bramall Lane (2-0 win in 88), then witnessed a 2-1 defeat a bit Blackburn (Scott sellars master class a year later) I live down south and put up with a lot of crap from Southampton and pompey fans. For once I'm having the better of it though, so thanks to Chris and the lads for that!

Forced into it at gunpoint. If I’d known then what I know now I might have said, “ pull that bloody trigger!”.

I am not a born “Sheffielder”. I don’t say phrases like “ARR MUCH?” but I was brought up around these parts and was regularly asked if I was Blade or Owl?

I was neither. Neither were my parents or brothers or extended family as far as I know.

But I recognise quality when I see it. 👍

I've never lived north of Southampton but my dad's side is from Yorkshire and are Blades through and through. I wasn't really in to football until I was about 9 or 10 - the bright green writing on teletext "Sheffield United are relegated" is ingrained in my brain and that, unfortunately, is the very moment I realised I was a Blade as I ran upstairs and burst in to tears!

I have two boys, 1 and nearly 4, and they have no choice in the matter. They WILL love football and they WILL be Blades!

I am from Ireland but recently living in Derby. My dad worked in Sheffield for a few years in the fifties and my uncle lived there from the fifties until he passed away. I started following the blades in the 80s and used to enjoy Harry Bassett. I flew over for a few games here and there. Away to Man City the previous time in the PL. Away at Villa last season. Away at Walsall. Home games include Chesterfield. Preston NE. Walsall Charlton Swindon town WBA. Peterborough Milwall. Managers at those times...Warnock. Clough...Atkins.Wilder.
I had the pleasure of seeing Dean Hammond live and thinking he can't even run.

Middle name Sheffield... that gets a like from Bert.

Growing up in Northern Ireland, it was Rangers or Celtic with all the attached issues. Moved to England, first job in Sheffield, went to Blades v Charlton in Cup on John Street. I’m not from Sheffield, I’m not a Bigger Blade... but I’ll tell you this, I’m infatuated with this club and have been for decades. Tears and cheers.

So I moved to Sheffield when I was ten from Altrincham and thought at the time ...dad what your doing? First game I attended was at the sty and hated it. Two weeks later went to the lane got threatened by an away fan and just thought.... I fit here. This was back in 1968 and I suppose I've seen everything! But tell you one thing the love you have for the Blades, once you are one is priceless. I live back in Manchester now and my mates think I'm crazy!!! But we know don't we, not for success, not for glory not for owt really...…………..just following them Blades. Love them!!! UTB

BTW was born in Huddersfield! lol and was once in the old Leeds Road ground as a kid (me dad Supported them) and there was 52,000 in. but unfortunately scummy Leeds then took over!

North or Southside?

Grew up in Gloucestershire and still live there now, but the likes of Bristol & Swindon too far away to feel any allegiance to those places. I started following Uniteds’ results in the early 70’s because of Tony Currie and the Blades had a good team then anyway (so it didn’t seem a daft choice of club). Of course it has seemed an odd choice for most of the subsequent 40 odd years!
I was a keen railway enthusiast in my teens and one of my first trips with my mates was to Sheffield as a 13 year old. We went to Wath, Tinsley and Darnall during the day. On that day my slightly casual interest in United was transformed into a love affair with the city and the team. I was mesmerised by the industrial, gritty atmosphere of the city and felt an immediate affinity with the people.
I’ve always had the kind of personality that supports the downtrodden, plus I’m a glass half empty kind of bloke. Sheffield United has proved to be the perfect choice of team.
Now 56 & a season ticket holder for many years. My daughter also has a ST and is as mad about United as I am. It’s been a bumpy ride but wouldn’t swap my love of Sheffield & United for anything. UTB ❤️🤍❤️
