Speaking in the shoutbox about tonights England v Kosovo game, came onto the subject of players who should/shouldn't be in the England team.

Realistically, if Wilder was England manager, would he call any of our English lads up, and if so who would he replace them with...? This could be an interesting thread.

This defence is shite for a start, too much faffing about with systems and personnel. Play our way with two wing backs.

Walker, Maguire, JOC
Chilwell and TAA as wing backs

Pickford is dodgy but there are no English keepers that aren't to be fair, I'd start to call Henderson up as third choice though instead of Heaton as he gets older.

Midfield is depressing. So many good attacking players and they play Ross Barkley who fucks up at every opportunity.

Henderson, Loftus-Cheek, and Maddison for me in midfield if you're playing our way.

And then Kane and Sterling.

Done. World Cup incoming.

- Henderson -
TAA - Walker - Maguire - JOC - Chilwell
Henderson - Ox
- Maddison -
Kane - Sterling

Playing our way would be brilliant to watch.

Kane, Stirling and Matt Done upfront, wow!!

Replace Maguire with Jack for a start. £80 mill there having a laugh.

Got JOC in on the left.

Good defender Harry but £80m is looking really bad business, not his fault though, that's what football is now.

Why choose Henderson in midfield? If there 2 things that put me off watching England then they are;
That stupid band
Jordan Henderson. He struts around the pitch like a constipated peacock and 90% of his passes are directly back to the person who passed to him or just backwards.

A Wilderised Henderson.

Wilder wouldn’t want to work with other people’s players. International footballers would be a pain to work with. United’s style is based on selfless play by selfless players.

He'd probably play himself and Alan Knill. James Hanson would be upfront to head on the hoof balls. He'd get Joey Barton to make a come back to boss the midfield as everyone knows he likes the physical game. He'd probably play some useless Scottish rejects who wouldn't even get in Wednesday's team. He'd add a few overrated lower league players. The Yorkshire Ripper would play right back.

Useless manager playing outdated hoofball. England should look elsewhere. I hear Gary Monk plays progressive football.

Also harder to create a good team bond at international level.

If Wilder were England manager I might actually watch a qualifier. As it is I'm not interested in watching us leak three goals to somewhere that's not even fully recognised as a country.

Henderson and Ross Barkley have got to be 2 of the most over rated players I have ever seen. I have never seen Barkley do anything to justify the hype.

He sums up everything that is wrong with modern football where clubs like Chelsea pay stupids amounts for bang average players.

The FA have done such a great job with the England team that I completely forgot they were playing. If you told my teenage self that that would happen I would have laughed at you.

I enjoyed the game, accept that at halftime we were all talking about 7/8 - 1 and things didn't come off like we all thought but I cannot remember watching an international game played so openly, going forwards both teams looked good and played quick attacking football, better than most England matches and of course we won and scored 5,again.

Probably the most open international game I’ve seen for a long time. Refreshing that this wasn’t another one of those games where the plumbers and the farmers came to stick 11 men behind the ball.

It’s obvious that when we come up against better opposition we might be in trouble defensively. The major difference between this team and previous England teams is that we tend to win the groups at a canter every time rather than under estimating the opposition in our group.

Oh and if Michael Keane is getting a game then I’ve absolutely no doubt that JOC is ready. Keane wouldn’t even get in our bench.

.......................Pickford.........................
...........Walker..Big H..JOC.................
TAA........................................ Chilwell

If CW keeps us up comfortably and we push on again next year his name is bound to be whispered in the corridors of the FA should Gareth get the heave-ho......however, would they really consider giving it to our Chris, no matter how successful he is at club level...? I fancy he would be put into the same category as Brian Clough, more than qualified for the role but not enough of a "yes man".....mind you if they can appoint Allardyce then why not?

it would be an interesting one if the job comes up and CW is at the peak of his powers!

Why not give him a real challenge?

Instead of England with their array of superstars, give him Scotland to manage.

That's a greater, harder test for any Manager to succeed.

Kosovo's second, where three England players appealed for offside against the striker despite all playing him on, was hilarious.

One thing's for certain if Wilder was manager - he wouldn't be playing Walker at CB as Southgate did and others in this thread have suggested. I thought he was crap in this position in the WC and he's paying for it now. Wilder would put him at WB where there isn't anyone finer in this country. Combine this with Wilder's unique system and he would be a revelation.

Kosovo were surprisingly good on the ball. Fair play to them coming and having a go. I fancy them to finish 2nd in the group.

Defensively it was shocking but they were all avoidable mistakes. Not learned from the debacle in June vs the Netherlands. Barkley plays it to Keane when he shouldn’t, then Keane gives it straight to their player. Rice gives it away cheaply for the second. Third goal Maguire has a complete mare.

It doesn’t help that the midfield is bang average though, Rice and Henderson are supposed to be defensive minded but were cut through time and again.

I'd rather Anneka Rice play than Irish Declan

Mixed bag. Some good tackles and interceptions but some criminally sloppy passing.

I think it was one of those games where they got a bit overconfident at half time and thought they’d just keep steamrolling them.

If we stay up and England don’t do well in the Euros, Wilder could be in the running. There aren’t many alternatives.
