Is that what I said?
You did say Pete :: are they really bothered which suggests , they are quite happy to be losing 5 million a year,no company can be happy at that
or not bothered as you suggested. If I have got the gist of your post wrong I apologise.

No, I'm questioning their commitment to the project. They clearly thought it would be easier than it was been, taking over a lower league club, throwing a bit of money at it and hey presto we're promoted.

It doesn't matter whether they're happy or not. We've been here 5 years, McCabe's unhappiness hasn't really had much of an impact so far.

Accepted but they can't go home with the ball leaving 15 million thrown away ,this is a project that as you say was going to be easier than its turned out
but they have to throw more money at it to stand any chance of getting a return, there will be more to come.Clough was another expensive sacking that's not the mark of an owner throwing in the towel, stick with it.

At some point though, businessmen cut their losses.
Jim's January statement to explain our quite frankly embarrassing efforts in the transfer window largely spelled out strongly suggested a much changed approach going forward.

I agree a changed approach, Mccabe said as much at the annual share holders meeting, but losses while in this division are massive so there will be a drive to get out next season if we fail this.Ime still in the camp of doing it this season, stand by ya beds.

The sad thing is, we could have done it this season had we approached the JTW differently.

Instead the board acted pathetically and are reaping what they sow.

They've got what they've deserved this season for their approach, we haven't though.

Got what they deserve after putting in upwards of 15 million over 2 years ?. January is always a tricky time to chase players as prices are inflated
(Chasing the dream ).Adkins stuck to his guns whether we like it or not,he said he had targets and would only bring in players who would make a difference ,he failed in Jan & loan window for whatever reason. They obviously wernt going to be held to ransome and he is going with what he's got.
We have wasted millions in this division it's obviouse a new way forward has started.Adkins has bought into this plan as in my opinion the plan was operational after the sacking of Clough.Would Adkins have taken the job if this new plan was operational as promotion this season would not be nailed on with the squad as it stood. With his previouse record the last thing he would want is to be associated with failure so he mus have accepted the new way forward..
He will have got financial backing but is a lot more prudent than Clough.building a squad from home grown players with transfers that are value for money ( although a good player has Brayford been value for money ? ) .It may have to be anot her season in this turgid division but we have to stick with Adkins as he deserves at least another season to build a team.

what did wigans board do different to us
they spent less
but got in a manager who said from the off they were going to do it
100 per cent belief in the task

what we got was a mealy mouthed softly softly approach , a season full of apologetic failure
we never attacked it as Wigan have, never initiated any momentum
never found the players that wigans manager did
in the same time scale, with the same opportunities to get in what was required

Do you mind? Grown ups are trying to talk.

At the time when Adkins took over it was never a total rebuild job, they lacked leaders, height, aggression and a decent spine to the team (and still do). If Adkins had brought in the right spine players leadership, height and aggression would have been sorted at the same time. Instead he brought in Edgar, Hammond and Sammon when in old money a Morgan, McCall and Shipperley were needed.

Now thanks to Adkins it's a complete mess at the club. Based on what he's done this season I've got no confidence in Adkins to sort it and I don't expect another season of Adkins to fix the problems (Adkins is a big part of the problem). Get shut now and let whoever the new guy is to get on with clearing up the mess Adkins has left.
And then when whoever the new guy is also becomes part of the problem? Sack him too? Like the last 6?

Stop this horrible talk, your bringing me down!

We all thought we got it right when we brought in Adkins. I'm sure you did too

Just about all United fans did but it's very clear that Adkins' reign has been nothing short of disastrous. A decision on his future shouldn't be based on his CV, the number of managers United have sacked in recent times or even that most fans were pleased with his appointment last summer.

It should be based on what he's done this season in a very poor league, with a team/squad that had made the previous season's play-offs, a League Cup semi-final (beating amongst others West Ham away, Southampton when 4-0 wouldn't have been an injustice and running an excellent Spurs side very close over two-legs, plus thrashing Premier League QPR on their own patch in the FA cup) and prior to that an FA cup semi (beating at a canter numerous Prem and Championship teams along the way).

Most performances have been dreadful under Atkins, many of the good players have gone backwards under Adkins, his signings have on the whole have been shocking, there's no pattern to the way the team plays, team selection, formation and substitutions have been all over the place, and most of the players seem under motivated by the guy. To top it all he's probably provided United fans with the second worst season in our history.

Well I think for once we ought to stand by our convictions. It's been a disastrous season, but as have the last 10 under countless different managers. They're not all incompetent fools. We all know where the main body of blame lies

Do you mind? Grown ups are trying to talk.
he's right though
i'm starting to get the impression that some people want to keep adkins for the simple expedient of 'ooh it would be embarrassing if we sacked another manager'.. fuck that. Watford had about five managers last year and got promoted.

He certainly isn't "right" simply because you agree that you both want to sack Adkins.

I've outlined the reasons I don't want him sacked multiple times.

None of those reasons correspond with what you've suggested above.

Spot on.

Adkins will turn out to be the most expensive managerial mistake in SUFCs history with his huge salary, the mega wages for his signings, the £400,000 its costing to offer a 10% reduction in season tickets (thanks to his teams shambolic displays this season) & the drop in value of some of our 'star' players.....£1.5m for Brayford again anyone?.......£3m for Che on current form?

Do you make things up on the spot?

Hear hear. It's the worst team in my history of 25 years a grown-up fan!.... By quite a margin too.

Not sacking somebody, because you have had a lot of managers, is completely illogical. That's like people who do their knackers in doubling up on red because one is due. Nothing is ever due. What happens next is completely unrelated to what happened last time, or the time before, or the time before. Obviously the board are at fault for many things, but keeping a manager just because the board are probably more at fault doesn't make any sense either. It's like buying shit furniture, because your house is shit too.

Where the club has gone wrong with managers, is employing the wrong ones. Adkins looked the right one, but it hasn't worked. He's been a disaster. IF we had always picked the right manager, the chances are we would not have had to keep firing them.

Logic & common sense........I like this forum! Lets hope the club take note and show a bit of both.

I was more talking about the made up nonsense regarding how Adkins was appointed and how appointed him.

I noticed you haven't replied to that one?

Id have thought after 2,419 messages since 2007, you'd have known how to reply to the correct post.

Anyway.....

If I was spending upwards of £2.4m on a SUFC manager, I'd maybe have done a tad more research on why he failed at Reading so miserably & the reasons why Saints got shot of him so quickly after two promotions. How, exactly, did he do so well at Southampton? Did he 'build' his own team? Or did he inherit a quite superb set of talented players after Pardew fell out with the Chairmen? (google the squad he took over if you have 2 mins).

Adkins was appointed in a rush, cos Clough left very suddenly weeks after season had ended, after a huge fall out behind the scenes.

We are now paying the price, on the pitch, & off it.

I saw more dodgy stats and opinions out forwards as facts so thought I'd reply to this one seen as you disappeared from the other thread after being called out.

Via a quick Google search, over the phone, and by Mal Brannigan?
