Will we?

Sphincter relapse
We haven't yet and in previous seasons, have showed sings of doing so earlier on. In 2012, we failed to win Wednesdays both games, we lost to Oldham at home in a bizarre game. I could go on...

The mentality of this team is different to Wilson's pushovers.

Not true.. Sky show over 130 lower league matches a season.. Sky helped out the lower leagues when ondigital went tits up.. Sky get more viewing figures for quite a few more championship games than Premier League games.
Sky couldn't even be bothered to show a League 1 game the other week when it was FA Cup so they had no games while we were playing Scunny and Bolton were at Bradford. They use the lower divisions as meaningless filler that often clashes directly with a Premier League game or as padding for nonsense like 10 games in 10 days which caused that stupid Thursday Coventry match just before Christmas that nobody but Blades and Cov fans watched. Their Championship picks are heavily biased towards their perceived "big" clubs, chosen entirely for ratings purposes rather than footballing reasons (hence loads of Villa and Forest games despite both being toss). Most "experts" taking about the FL can only manage to talk about people they've heard of because they've played in the Prem and there's a general lack of knowledge about basic stuff like suspension cut-offs being different. Even the National League gets a better highlights show on BT than Sky give the Football League now, as they prefer to show the same few episodes of 15 minute filler dross on a loop.

Sky show lower league football, but they don't really care about it.

Sky can't show a live game against an FA cup game as far as I'm aware.

If it wasn't for Sky some clubs may have gone under with the collapse of ondigital..

Which premier league games are you referring to that sky put a lower league game up against? If it's BT I'll say that BT put a non-league game up against a Sky premier league game, so what...we are all given a choice what to watch..

Clubs that play on a Thursday night are more than compensated for against any loss of paying spectators

Have you got a link for those viewing figures? It would help in a long standing argument I've been having with a mate.

Well, after almost a week of confidence I'm now devastated that we've blown our chances of winning the league and are scrapping for 2nd place - Bastard Oxford.;)

With Spearing, Pratley and Madine back I can see them going on a pig like run to the end of the season. Think we'll need to win 6 from 8 to take the title.

I'm sure you could find them somewhere mate.... the likes of forest, villa and especially Leeds will get good viewing figures regardless (former European cup winners and Leeds being a big pull for one reason or another)

Not sure of exact figures but a couple of years ago Leeds used to get triple the viewing figures of anyone else in the Championship hence the reason they were/are a lot. Probably not quite as big a difference with Newcastle and Villa there now but they still far outperform virtually every team viewing figure wise. Their game would quite regularly attract higher audiences than some of the Prem games.

Much as I'm sure it annoys people but Sky are a business at the end of the day and have to make money. More viewers mean more money from the advertisers etc.

Viewing figures are a massive importance when it comes to the TV deals being worked out hence why BT have just paid even more through the nose for the next European package as that was the only alternative to having to share the content as the advertisers were kicking off over their crap viewing figures.

I've no idea if it's true and I hadn't really took notice of it until reading this thread just now, but someone told me earlier this week that a recent Leeds game on Sky (could be the Brighton game but not sure) had higher viewing figures than the Barcelona v PSG game did on BT the other week.

There is a reason BT Sport pick Man Utd and Liverpool games so they get the 32" supporters. Also if you look closely at Sky's Saturday 5:30 game usually involves the teams with most support in the Championship, especially away from home so to pick at BT's 5:30 premier league games. There should be a rule that 2 games from the same country can't be played on the same time, except say on final day on the season.

European football hardly gets any viewers compared to domestic football hence why Sky didn't put up much of a fight when BT started chucking a billion quid at the rights.

I cant remember the source but last season 9 out the 10 most watched games on pay TV in the Uk were on Sky and the BT game that made the list was also a domestic game.

Our record is identical to yours over the last ten games:

P10 W6 D3 L1

but theres the rub Bolton have to be 30 per cent better than ours over the next 8 and we play 6 bottom half teams and no top half teams away
we have 3 of the bottom 4 to play
if we win 5 bolton have to win every single game game

bolton still have to go to scunthorpe and southend and have 2 derbies over easter that will test them

Great points well made.

I wish there could be a way of SUFC being very successful without all the Prem/Sky shite.

The only game they showed that weekend was Newcastle v Villa on a Monday night when the Sutton/Arsenal FA Cup game was on BBC1, so that's obviously not true.

ok.. you've got me there... maybe they just can't be bothered to show one in the early rounds because they would lose hands down viewing figure wise..

You did say Sky don't really care about the lower leagues... Can you tell me why they bailed out the football league all those years ago and still do this day show live games(113 per season, all play off games and upwards of 15 checkatrade trophy matches) if they don't care about the lower leagues.

Cos there's only so much Sky Gold they can show?
