If nothings happens today

It’s a shame we haven’t bid for a couple of forwards that have moved. It’s hard to believe that they wouldn’t improve our team.

We have gone into the season with a weaker squad than we had last year, which is disappointing.

I personally don’t care which market we are shopping in. Would prefer taking a risk throwing £200k at a player with potential rather than paying £5m for Waghorn.

Our scouting has been probably more miss than hit. We seem to chase players, we cannot sign and have no back up plan. That or we spend 12 months chasing them, finally sign them, then never play them.

As expected, as we've been told by our manager - Has this been the worst transfer window since Wilder took over?

People might say we've strengthened, we haven't. We've stayed the same strength wise if anythinh we're weaker as we've lost any sort of depth upfront and 3 of our key players are getting no older and the old legs become a factor. Leon, Sharp, Duffy.
Henderson = Blackman (some may argue for and against the other, realistically they are a similar level)
Woodburn = Brooks
Egan has been added, early days
McGoldrick > Donaldson

Then we've lost any semblance of depth upfront by shipping out Evans (not that he was good but at least he was a body), losing Brooks and not giving Lavery a squad number. 3 strikers we've got.

We are lacking massively upfront and to not reinvest the Brooks money in this window would be absolutely criminal.
Chris says we can't find anyone to improve us with the budget we have? I for one hope he's only joking. There's better players in League 2 than some of the shite taking a shirt at the minute.
We can't have only had one target in Waghorn and then when we're gazumped on him because... wages, we throw our toys out of the pram and just don't bother.

It was loaning players last time that killed us and if we build our team around Woodburn, Henderson and whoever the striker we'll end up signing is on loan we're back to square one again next summer.

It'll be a case of 'lets make do' until January. Then from January it'll be 'make do' to the summer.
Rinse and repeat, it's the same old tired story we've heard far too often.

(Of course this all changes when we sign Sam Gallagher on a permanent deal later today)
Nah I'd say the last January window was the worst we're only 2 games into the season this squad will come good and we do have a loan window until the end of the month wilder isn't going to disregard the loan window

I said on another thread that we are arguably weaker than last season. Our 3 main attacking players are a year older and highly unlikely to get anywhere near the standards they did last season. Then there is Coutts who will likely take a while to find anything like the form we know he is capable of.

The team that started against Brentford last season was better than the one that started against Swansea in my opinion and that is a sad illustration of the poor business we have done since promotion.

Posted similar a few days ago before the start of the season. Took a shed load of abuse for it. Nice to see the penny is dropping with the majority now. Although it’s not nice at all really, it’s a terrible shame.

It’s not just about how strong we are versus our team from last season, it’s about how strong we are versus the other teams in this division this season. There’s been some major investment from several teams. Whether you think we, as a team, are stronger or weaker or about the same as our team last season isn’t the issue, the issue is that compared to the key competition in this league this season we’ve gone backwards.

It’s not doomsday btw. although it may feel like it if we whimp out at QPR on Saturday. I am still confident we will hold our own, overall. But we are looking at a lower table finish, ie bottom 10, not top 10, unless something changes drastically in January.

We have let Ched Evans,James Hanson and Clayton Donaldson go presumably the plan was that they would be replaced by at least 2 better/quality players to improve striking options but we have only signed McGoldrick up to now which is worrying if we don’t sign at least 1 today

For the first time under Wilder I am starting to think there is something not quite right at BDTBL. Wilders radio interview after the 'Boro game was disappointing with regards to any transfers, he is either bluffing due to not wanting to be beaten to the punch (again), or he is spouting the party line & has taken a new deal knowing full well his hands are tied.
We are very naive when talking about how much a certain player is, & if we cannot compete with the teams around us with transfer fees & wages the club should be honest & come out & say that, it seems like we are trying our best to get back to League One, where we can pretend to be a bigger fish in a small pool. We as a club simply cannot hope to have any ambition further up the leagues by feeding totally on scraps by signing players no-one else wants & League One & Two players & free transfers. If we do not invest then our manager will eventually leave, as will our better players once they wake up to what is happening. Year after year after year we sell our best players without investing transfer monies into the team, everyone knows this has been the case for many years, it would be laughable if it wasn't so disheartening.
I hate being negative about The Blades but this just feels like yet another year we shoot ourselves in the foot & snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The only “news” we’ll be hearing today is at 5:10pm when the good old “Despite efforts and hard work, we didn't manage to get anyone in. Loan window opens Monday” tweet comes out.

This will quickly be followed by a 45 second video of Wilder saying its dissapointing, they tried hard but the loan window opens next week.

Followed soon after by another tweet promoting a competition to win a holiday, and another trying to hawk corporate packages for the Villa home game.

Jim White can shove his day up his sphincter.

I too will be very disappointed if we don’t bring anybody in today......it feels like we have all been fed a line so we buy season tickets and then the true depressing picture is revealed....tried and tested method that we fall for every season infortunately!

I am starting to wonder whether we lack the experience in the club in how to deal with million pound targets. Easy to bring in players from div1 or loan, but man for man I don’t feel we are better than last year and the lack of a decent director of football with this experience would surely help

No,
The process is exactly the same, there's just more money involved.
It'll be the same in January, same next summer, same next January.

The worst thing for me is how other clubs must see us when we're trying to sign one of their players,
Some must just laugh and say " Ha Ha Ha, them dozy bastards are back again"
But we must seriously annoy most other clubs

What would you do if you're house was up for sale at £200,000 and some dickhead kept knocking on your door every day and offering £150,000, then coming back with an improved offer of £155,000 and giving YOU the ultimatum that they wouldn't be held to ransom. Especially when there's plenty of interest from others
You'd tell him to foxtrot Oscar and probably give them a kick up the arse as they turned away

It's our own fault really. We are a gullible set of bastards

Hey, there's no one a bigger Blade than Mr Keeping-the-club-afloat.... Just keep drinking the Kool Aid everyone. There you go, every last drop...

LOOKMAN's available for loan from Everton, come on Chris lad....

This sums my feelings up. Just totally let down. Great chance to build after a couple of great seasons yet we've somehow ended up with a weaker first 11 than we had at the start of last season. We are in our 2nd season of Championship football and our only 3 strikers are Sharp, Clarke and McGoldrick. It's incredible really.

Perhaps there will be some cheap crumbs from the top table, when all the clubs with money have done their final spending today?

As long as the fax machine is plugged in - there said it!

Got to this and I stopped reading.

I'd suggest a lot of our fans don't know the difference betweem legitimate criticism and downright insults.
There are some very decent players waiting to be found in League 2 so I stand by that comment.
Is there some shit in our starting XI right now? Most certainly.

Do you think this summer has been worse than January?
Why don't you try and answer the OP first instead of asking more questions like you normally do?

I know you're a journalist (if you can call it that) but I've never seen you give a straight answer to anything

We won’t sign anyone today so yes it does make us a weaker team.
Woodburn is starting to show promise but he can’t do it all on his own!!.
Egan has not covered himself in glory thus far and is looking like £4 million down the toilet?. I M H O.
I really do hope that I’m proved wrong and only time will tell?. UTB

The age thing's a massive factor in whether we're stronger or not because Duffy, Clarke and Sharp were hugely influential last season - they were basically our attack.
This. Been saying it all summer. Expecting the same or better from any of those 3 is 50/50 At best. Which means expecting the same or better from ALL 3 is about 12%.

It's not rocket science ffs. And the bullshit about nobody being available is just that, bullshit. We've limited yourself to a tiny, expensive market and we wonder why we struggle to find players

Incredible.

That's one word for it...

Is it dramatically weaker? Henderson probably better than Blackman but at least equal, likewise Baldock, Stearman’s lost his place to the club’s record signing, Coutts is injured, Lundstram replaced Carruthers and McGoldrick replaced Sharp, again not much between them for me

It isn’t the worst window since Wilder took over for me. Hope the pointless dig made you feel better. Is this window worse than January?
