As expected, as we've been told by our manager - Has this been the worst transfer window since Wilder took over?

People might say we've strengthened, we haven't. We've stayed the same strength wise if anythinh we're weaker as we've lost any sort of depth upfront and 3 of our key players are getting no older and the old legs become a factor. Leon, Sharp, Duffy.
Henderson = Blackman (some may argue for and against the other, realistically they are a similar level)
Woodburn = Brooks
Egan has been added, early days
McGoldrick > Donaldson

Then we've lost any semblance of depth upfront by shipping out Evans (not that he was good but at least he was a body), losing Brooks and not giving Lavery a squad number. 3 strikers we've got.

We are lacking massively upfront and to not reinvest the Brooks money in this window would be absolutely criminal.
Chris says we can't find anyone to improve us with the budget we have? I for one hope he's only joking. There's better players in League 2 than some of the shite taking a shirt at the minute.
We can't have only had one target in Waghorn and then when we're gazumped on him because... wages, we throw our toys out of the pram and just don't bother.

It was loaning players last time that killed us and if we build our team around Woodburn, Henderson and whoever the striker we'll end up signing is on loan we're back to square one again next summer.

It'll be a case of 'lets make do' until January. Then from January it'll be 'make do' to the summer.
Rinse and repeat, it's the same old tired story we've heard far too often.

(Of course this all changes when we sign Sam Gallagher on a permanent deal later today)

Completely unacceptable if we don't bring anyone else in permanently. Simple as.
There's been so many strikers that would've instantly become our best who've gone elsewhere for less than we bid for Waghorn. That's the most frustrating thing.

I can't wrap my head around why we weren't in for Sam Baldock, Adam Armstrong, Jack Marriott, Ellis Harrison, Kayden Jackson, I could go on...

Yeah but we're ambishussss, we're only interested in players we have less than a 10% chance of signing.

I am starting to wonder whether we lack the experience in the club in how to deal with million pound targets. Easy to bring in players from div1 or loan, but man for man I don’t feel we are better than last year and the lack of a decent director of football with this experience would surely help

And then when they tell us they're not willing to half their wages we do the Yorkshire war cry at the top of our lungs

"ARRRRR MUCHHHH"

and leave the room promptly as not to cause a scene.

Ha ha there’s been far worse transfer windows, talk about exagerratimg to make a point seem stronger.
In the past we’ve been seriously weakened, you even admit that maybe we’re a similiar strength compared to last season.

Agree, the purchases presently seem underwhelming but we’ve spent more money than previous windows, probably record expenditure, surely that deserves respect. No one knows how good the new signings will be, in a few weeks you might be saying it’s the best window ever.

The main point is we’ve NOT sold our best players, we’ve still retained all the best players on the pitch from last season.
And many have said we always sell our best players, so that means Fleck is a gonner but Fleck is still here.

Brooks had by far the biggest potential, so could have ended up being the best player in 2 years time, could end up being a great player but last season he couldn’t even force his way into the 1st team, so we can’t miss what we never had.

Partially see your point, there’s definately grounds for concern but the season has hardly started so who knows. Leave it 10 matches, then we’ll know if it’s been a good transfer window.

So how am I exaggerating a point when I'm saying it exactly as it is?

And I said since Wilder took over.

You could argue that we are slightly stronger with the in's and out's so far.

Its just that slightly is not going to be good enough for top 6.

Saying that we're weaker because Ched's gone on loan is somewhat of an exaggeration for starters.

I don't think McGoldrick for The Don weakens us either.
It weakens our depth, of course it does, at least he's a striker of which we only have 3.
And I said the complete opposite about McGoldrick...

At the very least we need to take a punt on a forward, don't care where from but if they can pass a ball and run past people get them. Don't even care if they don't score that often to be honest, just stretching defences and giving someone like Billy, Leon or McG room to be the finisher.

Get Usain Bolt in, he's still training with the Mariners, get Monty to have a word.

The age thing's a massive factor in whether we're stronger or not because Duffy, Clarke and Sharp were hugely influential last season - they were basically our attack.

I said on another thread that we are arguably weaker than last season. Our 3 main attacking players are a year older and highly unlikely to get anywhere near the standards they did last season. Then there is Coutts who will likely take a while to find anything like the form we know he is capable of.

The team that started against Brentford last season was better than the one that started against Swansea in my opinion and that is a sad illustration of the poor business we have done since promotion.

Disappointing, borderline worrying transfer window so far, especially given the fact that we've sold the family silver yet again.

Wilder said our main area of concern, and the first place he was going to strengthen was up front, 2 new strikers.

Well Chris, where are they!!??

And don't say Mcgoldrick, he was a bargain bin find, a good one il grant you, but not the kind of striker you were after.

Fine margins eh Esa? It’s amazing how a couple of good or bad results can change the cumulative mindset.
Whether we had won both these games or not, going into the season with 3 strikers would have been disgusting anyway.

Said on a different thread ive always been the biggest advocate of trust wilder 100% regardless. I have to agree that id be quite peed off if we didnt sign anyone today. Maybe i would question him for the 1st time

As middlesboro was as bad as it has been under wilder. As it Southend over again & oxford 1st goal where it was just so easy
