That's your best team based on previous and today. Stick with that and don't fanny about, appreciate there may have been one or two injuries.

Not knocking the likes of Flynn and Reed. Good players but need to learn to be as good without the ball as they are with it.

Campbell ryce did nowt when brought on and basham and Doyle in the middle isn't really very creative

Campbell-Ryce did more in his first five minutes than Murphy and Flynn did from the start. We looked incredibly porous through the middle with Basham having to do too much.

Two cart horses in central defence and two defensive midfielders in the middle. I'm not convinced.

We do not need Doyle anywhere near the team this season !! He brings nothing to the team at all.
What we can't do is play Scougal & Reed in the same side as they're too easily knocked off the ball and refs don't give fouls at this level. Didn't deserve to lose today but didn't deserve to win either. Clearly need to look at CH more closely though.

Based upon pre-season, JCR wouldn't be in the team for me. One of the big things I think we miss when Flynn isn't playing is his work off the ball.

You are clueless mate, McGahey was brilliant today, Flynn over JCR, Baxter and Scougall need to play together, while Basham is the CDM, Doyle can fuck off.

In one sentence you say that Doyle should not be anywhere near 1st team and in the very next, say that Scoogs and Reed shouldnt be in same team.

Go figure.

While I would have hoped for some significant improvement in our cm players this season, that would have effectively forced Doyle down pecking order, the fact is that today we sorely missed a Doyle / Monty type in the middle of the park.

Doyle for Scoogall today might have got us a point.

IMHO

Reed is tidy on the ball but always passes in front of the oppositions back four and never hurts them with the ball. Basham looks mediocre at best. Not a good pairing IMO.

I would put Doyle in the team instead of Basham every day of the week

For me it would be

-----------------Howard-------------------

Alcock---Collins---McGahey---Harris

----------Doyle/Basham------------

JCR --------Scougall/Reed--------Murphy

---------Higdon-------Porter------------------

Far more attacking, far better balance. Just as long as JCR and Murphy get at them.

Bashem didn't do much for me but will give the guy a chance. Scoogal didn't track his player for the 2nd goal but I think that given time the back 4 will be ok. Partnerships take time but they need better protection from the midfield. We have a tough start but once the team gels we will be ok:) UTB

Mine would be

Alcock McGahey Butler Harris
JCR BashamScougall/ReedMurphy

Haha oh dear. McGahey was like a lost sheep and Flynn won't run at a full back.....and I'm clueless. Love it.

I take the point about Flynn's work rate but not enough attacking intent for me. Campbell-Ryce delivered the ball into the box twice after he came on. I can't recall as many as that from Flynn.

A lot of Doyle bashing on here. He was consistent and reliable at the end of last season and did nothing to warrant losing his place. I saw nothing out there today to say we have improved on him and that's the key thing. If we're going to leave him out, the replacements have to be better.

Was you even at the game, I don't think McGahey lost an aerial battle, All he needs is Collins/Butler to instruct him and within the next few starts he will be one of the best in the league, Did JCR run at anyone? We all know what Flynn is capable of, and why you would have Both Doyle and Basham playing in CM with only one attacking Midfielder that only dents our attacking ability, and we don't have any of that now.

Looking at the above Baxter shouldnt be allowed to put a shirt on until he has lost a few pound, JRC is good as a sub and can I please ask why no one is wanting the only person who can cross a ball out the team??? My personal preference would be

..........................Howard....................

Alcock.......Collins......mcgahey.....Harris

Flynn ........Davies........reed........murphy

..........................scougall......................

...........................Higdon.......................

Subs

Gk
Basham / Doyle
Wallace
Butler
Mcnulty
Porter
JCR

Just got back and I have to say I thought the central defensive pairing has a lot of promise. Mcgahey was ok and I thoughts Alcock was everywhere. It also adds some pace that we didn't have last season

1. Wilbraham's goal

That was his man....and you say he didn't lose one? Not sure if you were at the game pal.

JCR did run at the defence. He took the ball into the crossing zone far more than Flynny did and so much so that for the last eight minutes when most of our attack was coming from Davies and JCR, there was two defenders on JCR to force him into facing away from the penalty box when he got the ball.

I have seen Flynn have a half decent game before, but he is far too inconsistent and lacks the drive that takes him past defenders and on toward their goal.

It's way too early to tell. I like to think Cloiugh has a good idea what's doing and am willing to wait a few more games before commenting.

I'm not judging the squad or our ability to go up. I can easily say however that it was a turd of a starting lineup with no balance.

Thank you. I didn't imagine it then, it actually happened.

I think we definitely need either Butler or Collins at centre half alongside young Harrison. I thought Alcock had a good game but we need him at full-back as he's far better than Davies. I also thought the 3 in centre midfield looked a bit unsure where they were playing and neither Flynn or Murphy did much today.

That said we played well in spells and we're only undone by a quality second goal from Bristol. I also thought JCR looked much more positive when he came on for Flynn.

I'd like to see us go with a standard 4-4-2 with summat like the following -

--------------------Howard--------------------
Alcock - McGahey - Butler - Harris
JCR - Basham - Reed/Scougall - Murphy
--------------McNulty - Higdon--------------

However I still feel positive about this season and trust Clough to get us back to the Championship.

I think you are right there Pommpey as soon as Bristol saw JCR's threat they double teamed him.Bristol have a bigger team Scougall and Flynn had a tough time with their physicality.

He's a nippy wide attacker by nature, much akin to Brandy but with slightly less bad attitude. We need to exploit that by having the midfield play balls over the top and in between the CB and RB/LB for him to get latched onto and get across the area.
