It sounds like Murphy wanted to go so there's nothing the club can do really only get the highest fee possible and invest in good signings who want to play for Sheffield United.
I don't believe the club wanted to let him go but their hands are tied really.
Che can take his role from tomorrow.

The club are saying he wanted to go. Usual bullshit

As I said elsewhere, Collins really loves the club...

In fairness Murphy was quoted as being very happy last season and I'd imagine a bad week at work last week might've swayed him in wondering which way the club is going.

Good timing from the board to get rid at the end of a bad week.

If the answer is Che I think we're too early and it's a gamble...

You have to make players want to play for the club, the way you do that is by being successful

Yes I think if a player wants to go you have to let him go. It's a shame but if we'd stop fannying around and get out of this league we wouldn't have to sell to average championship clubs.

I agree to a point, you'd rather have players who are happy and want to play for the club. But with the length of Murphy's contract, we didn't have to sell him. We could have said "sorry we ain't selling you" and then it's up to Murphy if he wants to give his all for us or spit his dummy out.

Like Harry had to?

Is it right the club have rejected offers but he told the board he wanted to speak to Brighton?
If this is correct then the clubs hands are tied really.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Man U and De Gea, club want him to stay player wants to leave.

Didn't Gerrard once put in a transfer request at Liverpool? Did they roll over and shrug?

No they fought for the player, told him he would be made to honour his contract and eventually he changed his mind.

Harry only had a year left on his contract, much tougher to play hard ball under those circumstances.

Yep..but he wanted to go and it got ugly in public...no need is there?

Adkins/The board will have put their case to Murphy behind closed doors...you can argue till yer blue in the face but if the lad wants to go where's it get yer?

He loved the club and categorically didn't want to leave. He was gutted. If you want more info then Private Message.

What a ridiculous post, your talking about a club that can afford to put there foot down and keep a player we can't money talks, sterling for instance he was going no where until Liverpool got the £49m they wanted. Gerrard didn't hand in a formal transfer request either, he just flirted with the idea of joining chelsea. Plus the fans camping outside his house an threats had a big part to play!

A slightly different situation to compare with. All teams other than Real Madrid, Barca and Bayern Munich cannot hold on to players. Look at De Gea, Sterling, Delph etc. All gone or going to clubs who are either 'bigger' or in a league above. It is a fact of footballing life. It's happened in the past will happen again.

Keep on backing the board line all the way to League 2.. Small time thinking

We should have made him see out his contract simple as that,

But he still left! How did they make him sign for Brighton? Did they black mail him? Threaten him and his family?

Is that wise though,I always think you have to sell a player who wants to go usually,if this is the case here!

If we had REAL ambition players like Murphy and Maguire would stay.. I think sadly they can see where we are going as a club and it's nowhere
