...before we are asking for boring 1-0 wins?
I thoroughly enjoyed watching a game this evening in which we lost 3-2, much more than the defeats towards the end of last season, and although there are a number of mitigating circumstances, the 'it looks like we'll lose too many high scoring games next season' brigade (including me) look like they have a point worthy of consideration.
So what happens if this turns out to be the case? How long before the 'it's results that matter' brigade start taking the high ground?

Yes it's still early days where much can happen, but beating last season's 1-0 laden, 92-point, 3rd placed finish looks beyond us at the moment.
We really do look like that work in progress, one for the future, and although we might make the necessary signings that might gel quickly...equally they might not, or at least not enough to trouble the to 2 and dare I say it the top 6?

Question is, do we have the patience to see the experiment through?

We were missing all 3 of our CBs and playing against a team that beat PSG whilst finishing 4th in Ligue 1 last season. You maybe need to get a grip.

You may need to consider how easily lower league teams scored and created chances against us with our best defenders on the pitch, plus the best midfield we could put out played today and we looked extremely vulnerable.

How good did we look last season 10 days before kick off ? How good did we look after the window closed ?

Pre season games are primarily a fitness drill, time for experimentation and players trying not to get injured.

So yeah let’s get upset and predict a miserable season because we conceded a few goals in pre season.

Will Hamer be running across his own 6 yard box against Bristol? No
Will burrows score a shitty own goal? No

Will we sign some more players before the deadline? Yes

Not upset, not predicting a miserable season. Just asking a question.
If it helps, it's the bit at the end that starts 'Question is...'

I just wonder Snowy, whether we make decent additions or not (I think we will by the way) there's usually (except last season ironically) a period of time, especially with such a radical change of system, before things click. Therefore, if we do win a few and lose a few entertaining games, how long before some start yearning for 3 points more so than entertainment?

We shouldn't totally disregard the gritty approach that got us so many points last season, with many of the same players. Our best chance of being successful is by being selective - shackles off and rack up the goals when possible, but also pick the games to be more measured and minimise possible fuck ups. If we play openly all season we won't get near 90+ points. If we mix it up intelligently then we might

Wasn’t really aimed at you specifically. Seen far too much negativity in general this summer.
Sorry I took it personally my friend. Thing is, I'm really hopeful for the new season, and will enjoy the rebuild because of what it promises, but I do wonder how long it will be before the appreciation of the entertainment gives way to the desire to gain enough points for promotion, assuming we don't go on some ridiculous winning streak! Let's hope we do :)

The team were still learning Selles' methods and trying to get match fit. Give them a break. It's pre-season.

As for the midfield today, they played against a team who finished 4th in their league last season, and a division higher than the Championship at that. Don't read too much into it.

It has to be a balance doesn’t it and I don’t expect to see us gung-ho all season long.

Selles’ Hull we’re fairly defensively solid first and foremost.

I think he’ll look at our attacking talent and think he can get a balance of attractive attacking football but do it when appropriate.

Without going over last season again I think we had the balance set too far down the don’t concede scale.

It’s going to take some patience and adjustment and hopefully peoples nerves will be calmed by the time the window shuts and we can all then get together behind the team

Looks really exciting to me. I'm convinced we've made the right kind of change at the right time.

We're clearly keen to get the ball within shooting range as fast as possible. What a contrast to the last 10 years or more.

No criticism of previous managers, but we haven't played so fast for longer than I can recall.

I appreciate most championship sides won't be as good as today's oppo TK...who I thought we made look distinctly average first half.
But, I've seen enough in the 5 games to recognise what RS is trying to get the team to do, but IF we don't get the recruitment right, and IF we do but they don't gel quickly enough, I wonder whether those less patient of us might start giving up on the experiment.

I was very encouraged by that
With a decent centre back pairing and a defensive midfielder I think we have the makings of a very good side
Was disappointed with hamer and o hare who contributed very little in the final third ,o hare goes through phases like this though and hamm
er just doesnt look as effective when up against thoroughbred athletes so im not too.concerned

Mid November ? Maybe October ?

I'm not sure there's that much to take from a training ground game against a team from a different country (who weren't exactly busting a gut) other than we're more dangerous going forward than last season and significantly weaker at the back. I'm glad we had more of a test today. Asks a few more questions. How this all translates into Championship form we'll have to see.

No need to get carried away either way.

I get where you're coming from but this is not an experiment. It's not like Slav. We have the players Selles needs for his system, the question is when injuries kick in will he shove round holes in square pegs to cover for them, or will he adapt his formation to suit what he has available at his disposal?

Unless you think that last seasons performances and 1 goal wins were repeatable, winnibg close games over and over is not something you can "choose" to do

Hamer, I agree about. Sometimes I wish he'd work WITH the other players rather than trying to work FOR the other players....if that makes sense?!
Yes, sometimes O'Hare can be a tad wasteful, but I think he's looked much better than last year.

Without signing at least one RB, two CB and a CDM, I do not think we will make top six. Are our new owners just as skint as the prince????? if so, it will be a long season.
