I wish Phillips and Clarke had never come

Its a sad reminder of how shite our players are. Phillips, loaned out by Blackpool, comes here and smashes 6 in 6 as a winger. Clarke has also looked like a striker capable of linking up with supporting midfielders. Its depressing that these unoticed championship players are superior to our first teamers, most of whom, played in the championship last season and some in the premiership.

As a slight aside, interesting to see our record with those two in the team. Yes they have looked good (and better than the players we have) but what my Blackpool mates said about them has pretty much turned out to be the case. Clarke, great touch, can look brilliant on the ball but can also look like he's got two left feet at times and at the end of the day, doesn't score enough goals. Phillips, typical winger, can turn a game but is also guilty of not tracking back and loses his man in midfield more often than not which can put the defence under pressure.

Our record with those two in the team (ignoring Phillips' brief sub debut against Wendy);

Pl 6 W 2 D 3 L 1 GF 13 GA 11

Phillips has scored almost half of the goals whilst he's been here and Clarke has had as many assists but it's debatable whether we've looked better as a team with them in. That's as much a slight on the rest of the team but the good thing is that Wilson recognises what we need and whilst his hands may still be tied and this season may not end up with us challenging, it's not all doom and gloom.

Anyway, back to the 'pool boys, never say never ;)

We may be fucked without them, but I think they've got the shittiest end of the stick. After all, they've got to go back to Blackpool.

What is even more depressing is the fact that we have become a small feeder club for Blackpool who send their players out on loan to us for match practise before recalling them to play with the big boys. My God how times have changed...

According to local whispers, there's still a chance they may come back. With no game for them this week and a cup game for us where they wouldn't have played anyway, Holloway is having a look at them in training etc for a few days. There's other issues such as Taylor-Fletcher's injury, whether or not McManaman is staying with them etc etc but it's still up in the air.

Have you heard anything in the rumours that for them to come back Quinny would have to go the other way?

Not sure if I'd take that or not. He seemed to go off the boil a bit when they arrived but may pick up again now he should be the main focal point in our team. I'd go as far as to say when he's on form he's easily the best player in the division (of those that I've seen).

Some people seem to be lauding Clarke because he's got a few assists but I'm sure Billy Sharp set a few up when Beattie got loads and people thought he was shite

They'll be holding a press conference by the end of the week to announce the signings of Phillips, Clarke & Beattie.

Of the two, I'd rather keep Clarke, he's got more to his all round game and in the short time they've been here has been slightly more consistent. Think he's the more likely one too.

Phillips is an undoubted talent, and will quite possibly go on to do even better... I just think we get more all round from Clarke.

So for the moment we are left with the increasingly inked up, tweetastic NML or the feather weight Flynn for the creativity in wide positions. That coupled with the ginger messi looking more like Lionel Blair than the one he has been compared to (if only 10% were true). Throw in the prolific Cresswell, Porter and the Welsh Banjo specialist and we should be in for a real treat on Satdi.

I'll bet Chris Wilder can't wait to put his team up against ours. Seems to me he has already won the mental battle before kick off.

If Wilder's got any sense, he'll show his team how Bratfurd closed us down and us not being able to cope with it.

Or, and far more likely, in a week or so we'll read that Phillips and/or Clarke have been loaned to another team in our division.

Now if that team was Wednesday...

Nothing new but adding to what Foxy says, I can see some kind of deal involving Squinny for Clarke. Interesting that just about every Blackpool fan I've spoken to wouldn't be bothered if both left them.

Won't they be something like 7th choice strikers? Against Burnley they fielded three up top, then hualed them off for three others, even without accounting for GTF.

ask yourself why did Phillips never ever score 6 in 6 with blackpool

didnt have the players around him
what quality we have

its the only reason I can think of

a slight faux pa

however the argument stands

we started great with mendez laing
he got injured
we get these 2 in and they look the biz
they go ml is coming back so lets not all get down and depressed
blades fans always see the dark side

we were 4th when they came , we are now 5th so we can improve AS a TEAM , WE ARENT DEPENDANT ON 1 PLAYER

Blackpool sportsman's dinner last night, quote from a mate who was there "Billy Clarke said he really enjoyed his time at Sheff United and would have liked to have stayed as he was getting regular games, something he does not think he will now get here."
