Only because they were kids size and therefore still only half way up his shin :D

he played well 2nd half IMO. Shocking in the 1st just like the rest of them.:fishy:

He did cover more than his customary 6-yards for once!

OK to knock Harper but not Monty?

There is more to football than running around a lot. Ask Sean O' Driscoll.

It has nothing to do with the players names, but the performances they put in.

There is also more to football than standing, watching and pointing.

Today, Monty played well again and distributed the ball well and Harper put in more effort than usual and scored the important deflected goal.

Ask Sean O' Driscoll what he thinks of both of these players.

Check their career records. Your darling is not a world beater because he's scored a deflected goal.

Any criticism of him you and others can't wait to leap to the defence. Harper, a proper footballer, is fair game for criticism even when he wins us a point. His legs may have gone, he may have an injury, we may never see the Harper of his Reading days and that will be a real shame because that Harper was twice the player Montgomery will ever be.

That doesn't suit the parochial hero brigade does it? When did you last criticise the utterly inept Quinn?

Who is my darling and who did I say is a world beater?

I think his legs may have gone to be honest, as recently he's been playing exactly like that. Choosing to try and run the game with his mouth, instead of his feet.

Today, second half, I thought he did a lot more than usual and popped up with the goal. Is that not praise and not critisism?

Admittedly I mentioned his low socks, but that wasn't in a negative way.

I regularly critisise Quinn for a number of things, more often than not his unwillingness to use his weaker foot for anything. Just because I didn't join the hordes two minutes into todays game shouting "fuck off Quinn, you useless bastard" doesn't mean he's my hero.

Do you have a problem with my opinions of players performances, or perhaps a counter opinion on the two we've mentioned here today?

Do you have a differing opinion? or would you perhaps like to educate me on how this means I hero worship players you don't like (and only them)?

You obviously don't go and watch us very often do you. Did you listen to the Donny fan on P and G ? Monty and their 16 (Oster ?) were the best players on the pitch. I also rated Chambers and O'connor.

I just noticed that you chose to criticise (you have been selective - look at your other post) the lad who scored our equaliser today (I think that's 4 he's got now) by contrast to the euphoria when Monty's deflected shot went in on Tuesday. I thought he played very well on Tuesday by the way and maybe today - I didn't go.

We should all be hoping that James Harper finds the form that made him one half of the best central midfield the Championship has seen for years because that would enormously benefit our club. Maybe he's just a good pre- season away? Maybe not, I don't know. Writing him off as a pointer and shouter does little justice to a player who has demonstrated excellence in his career that our 2 stalwarts can't match. Maybe that's the problem?

In my other post I compared him with previous performances, recently, he's picked a small area of the pitch to patrol. Today, second half, he didn't do this and ended up all over the place. At one stage he was in a sweeper position, other times on the wing or in the box. He ended up looking better for it and managing to get a deflected goal.

I really, really hope he does. However, on this seasons evidence he's a different player. I've said a few times (most likely in response to a post insulting Monty) that an in-form Harper and Williamson pairing would be my choice. Sadly, he just hasn't done it. I'm not writing him off, I'm describing his performances this season.

You say that two others can't match his excellence and that they might be the problem, but just where is the evidence/suggestion of this? For me, this season, it has been quite the opposite.

I've seen a great many more Blades games than you mate. Not a good idea to start an argument you can't win. Why do you turn every debate into a pro-Monty issue? I was challenging Foxy on his only-too-ready criticism of a midfielder who, at his best, is light years ahead of our parochial favourites and expressing the wish that he might regain that form. The problem is some of you put one player before our club. That is a disgrace.

Why do you turn every debate into an Anti Monty one?

How do you know you've been to more games than others on this site? Does that mean your opinion is more valid than others ?
Or that you are a bigger Blade ?

So Pinchy, did Nick Montgomery run off with your one true love? I'm sure there are some who agree with your assessment of his footballing skills but your obsessive vendetta against him is quite remarkable.

After years of reading your relentless cyber stalking of a possibly fortunate young man plying his trade I feel you've surpassed yourself with your recent anti-Monty frenzy. Where do you get the energy to keep on keeping on? Are you on a mission from God?

What makes you think you have seen many more Blades games than me and why would it matter anyway. I've missed about 10 home games in 40 seasons and visited 89 out of the original 92 so I doubt it anyway. You didn't go to the one that we are talking about.....today ,so that sort of pisses on your parade a bit doesn't it ?
Why is Harper 'light years ahead' of Monty ? He has never been anywhere near Monty for us and when at Reading had much better players around him than Monty ever has.
I will admit he is much better at flapping his arms though ,only Marcus Bent comes near.

Why is is every debate has a 'you probably didn't go' dig?

Because you have to admit, if you're going to debate the relative performances of two players at a particular game, it would have been useful to actually witness those performamces.

It's like me giving you an in-depth assessment of say, the crucifixion of Jesus. Would you really give too much credence to what I said, considering the fact that I wasn't there, didn't see it and form my opinion based on the testimony of others?

I give up. I despair of you. I never start a Monty thread, ever. When I see the usual nonsense I respond. When, occasionally, he has a decent game, I say so without hesitation. The real obsessives are the likes of Foxy and Sitwell who can't see an opinion which dares to criticize the Maestro without leaping, both feet in mouth, to The Maestro's defence. Anyone who points out his crippling limitations is simply missing the point.

James Harper, on the other hand, is not aparochial favourite, so cliche-ridden criticism of him is fine. No thought of hoping he might return to the sort of form that Montgomery and Quinn could never aspire to. That would be disloyal to the stalwart but talentless twosome.

You deserve them, you really do. Enjoy the mediocrity but don't complain about the empty seats will you?

I'd hazard a guess that average gates have increased by about 10,000 in Monty's time at the lane.

Thanks for the glowing reference, you're wrong though, if Monty deserves critisism, he gets it. You decided to bring him into a thread discussing James Harper.

Read back just a few posts, there's no need to dig any further. I'd rather when telling me what I do and think, you'd actually read what I type ;)

Perhaps you will do me the same courtesy. I have clearly acknowledged Monty's fine performance on Tuesday and that he may well have played well today [also that I didn't go today so couldn't say - Linz please note].

I mentioned Monty solely to point out a glaring contrast in Foxy's approach. Harper 'manages a deflected' goal; Monty has a t-shirt printed.

I support the Blades. I gave done, home and away, for more years than most of you. Leave the 'Bigger Blade' card in the pack, please. If it comes to an audit, the vast majority of you will come second.

to be fair fella, you seem to be the only one playing that card.

PS - I'm a bigger blade than you.....:D

No mate. Sitwell started it and Linz continued it. I think I'm entitled to a resonable response.

So that makes you the biggest Blade in the world then Pinchy. Happy now that the Official Fan Auditors have been and measured you up? You got the pack out and started shuffling and dealing.

I've seen a great many more Blades games than you mate.

Well done. Now take your trophy and give it a rest. Who gives a fuck about "I'm a bigger Blade than you" anyway? It's all the playground "my Dad's bigger than your's" bollocks in new clothes, perhaps the Emperor's.

But I didn't even mention Monty did I? I was talking about Harper in a thread about Harper :), You decided to bring Monty and Quinny into it?

I mentioned Monty solely to point out a glaring contrast in Foxy's approach. Harper 'manages a deflected' goal; Monty has a t-shirt printed.

It isn't a glaring contrast in any approach, if Monty had been playing the way Harper has this season, I'd be saying exactly the same about him. I'm actually saying in this thread that Harper was better today and that an in-form Harper (from his Reading days) would be my first choice with Williamson in the middle, as much as you seem to ignore this.

So your point is, that although I said Harper played better today and on-form I'd pick him instead of Monty, that I love Monty and hate Harper? no matter how they play?

I'd rather just watch how they play on the day, without deciding before hand how they are going to do based on their name.

Didn't notice but it drives me mad when he turns out like that. Don't suppose it would make any difference, probably piss the player off a bit but I'd insist on him pulling his socks up if I was the manager.

I'd also ban blue boots to reinforce what it is to play for The Blades.
