I thought you were singing "like a gallon of Maggots"

Look at this logically:
Like a packet of woodbines,
Like a good pinch of snuff
Like a night out in Sheffield
Like a greasy chip butty

All the above associated with, well a night out in Sheffield, no mention of course fishing whatsoever. Also a gallon of Maggots, to anyone that has actually done any fishing whatsoever that’s a ridiculous quantity. You’re practically becoming a supplier with that amount.
I do not doubt people sang maggots in the late 80’s because well it does sound similar but that doesn’t provide the unimpeachable evidence they think it does.
It’s Magnet and to think it could be anything else it simply potty.

100%. Another question for the ‘Maggots Brigade’…

Do you really think that football fans would have written a song about a night out, and forgotten to mention beer?

It’s a serious societal issue, one that causes rows in our house when my missus makes up her own words to popular songs and refuses to observe the protocol of actually singing the right ones …. Or when my kids claim some fresh face hoody clad goon who songs a rehashed/remixed version of a 60’or 70’s classic is the real deal and are amazed to hear that it originated years ago. Grrrrrr!

Understand your logic and agree, but on a side note.

I fished Southern Ireland annually throughout the 80s and 90s, used to get through 4 pints of maggots, 4 pints of casters (1 gallon) 10lb of brown crumb and 5lb of white crumb in a 10 hour session.

Trotting on the Newark Dyke could eastly use a pint an hour but usually only fished 5 hour sessions on there.
