What more could then man do? If we'd won the league last season you'd still all be calling for his head because we'd probably be below Hull in the drop zone of the premiership!!
He could have got us promoted last season, that would have been more. I know he got us close, but had he used the right approach throughout the season instead of just March onwards, we probably would have done it.
If we'd have got promoted I wouldn't have been calling for his head. (Not that I am now, I'd give him till the end of the season unless we do get dragged into the relegation battle up to Christmas and New Year. Then a change might be necessary to galvanise the players and fans) He'd have done his job by getting us to the Premier League. The next season is a different scenario, and depends on the activity from the summer of said promotion for fan expectation.
I think he's done a great job since he joined. Yes his tactics can be off at times, yes we've adapted somewhat of a long ball tactic but that has won us more points than it has lost us since he took charge. If it gets us promoted frankly i don't care how we play. With points come prizes!
I agree completely, I don't care how we play if it gets us promoted. And points do bring prizes. But, as it is now we are currently closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs, and have taken 3 points from a possible 24 since the Sheffield derby. To me, that's a case of tactics not quite working with the new crop of players, because we had one of the biggest player turnarounds I've seen at the Lane over the summer.
Sometimes players need to adjust to tactics, but I think looking at our current squad, with the players that have been brought in, the tactics need to be adjusted to suit the players if we're going to make any sort of push for the play-offs this season. We have too many players that could cause damage, but can't get involved in the game because of our style of play.
You don't get nothing for playing fancy football in this league. Look at Doncaster!
What about West Brom, Cardiff, QPR? Burnley (to a certain extent) and Wolves last season? It's ok talking about Doncaster, but more teams play very attractive football and are at the top end of the table.
I'm not necessarily asking for Arsenal-esque, free flowing, one touch, passing football. The problem with the way we play, is that it doesn't seem to be with any purpose. We hit it towards Henderson and hope that he wins it and that somebody latches on to it. If we were attacking with a bit of direction, and invention, trying different things, it would be alot better to watch and more entertaining. But, alot of the time it's aimless. And that's why so many people get frustrated watching us.
