You are implying that no signings need to be made whilst wrongly mis-reading my posts into thinking I want a complete squad overhaul when in actual fact I simply stated the main general reason why most teams make signings..just because i'm making the case for signing a few more players, that does not mean I demand a complete squad overhaul, I hope that is clear for you now. As for Clough i neither love nor hate him. Think he was unlucky and pig headed but they arent the worst crimes. I just dont like rewrites of history to suit agendas.

Heres where we are. Clough dug us out of a deep pit and for that along with 2 semi finals should be thanked. Ultimately and for whatever reason he came up short and got fired. We all agree Adkins is the right man so lets give him a chance to prove it. Id give him 2 seasons assuming he doesnt do anything stupid. Bet he doesnt get it unless we get top 2.

I credit Clough for some of his signings e.g Adams, Done and Basham and some of what he did here but ultimately I think he wasted the chance at the start of last season, 14/15, with that huge budget, to get out of this league. If Adkins had been here at the start of this last season gone, with that same budget at his disposable I think we'd have been promoted by April of this year. The fact that we failed with a large squad and the players we have now has scarred me somewhat, whereby I've added extra (unnecessarily maybe) significance to the task of achieving a nice, condensed squad of around 22 quality players, the exact opposite of what we failed with. I think it could be a psychological consequence of the gutted feeling of failure, you always strive to change what went wrong, sometimes drastically, and I think i've been effected by that more than others on here.

Let's hope we can finally do it this year, i'm fully behind the gaffer.

My point was that we don't have a massive squad of 35+ players unless you include the juniors.

Personally, I don't mind us having a large group of under 21's under contract as long as they have the potential to improve and benefit United in the longer term.

I'll admit im niw getting itchy feet because I feel we need at least 2/3 CBs to go with Kennedy & I had been calm we got 2 mths, 6 weeks preseason not started, still a mth but now we got 2weeks left & not evrn linked with anyone we cant go into this season with last yr dreadful defence. But who knows what adkins has seen maybe theres a great prospect like louis reed last yr from youth that will fill a gap

No, last season I thought we'd make it out under Clough but always took on board that Clough's plan was a three year plan.

Was surprised when Clough got sacked although Clough did need to change things about himself for this year, I was confident he would make those changes.
The board weren't after his de-brief so it was goodbye.

Adkins is a master stroke on paper by the board and we have a fairly useful squad BUT why wasn't his plans for the centre of defence thrashed out at interview and why is it taking so long to sort?
We failed to a degree last season by not planning or hanging on for players that we didn't get and only started the season in Jan, do we not learn anything from our mistakes?

Due to situations outside of his influence Adkins is in a bigger shit or bust situation than Clough ever was.

In this context I think Adkins has to perform otherwise he will get a lot of pressure due to how long we've been in this league.

Whoever the manager was this year was always going be under extreme pressure. With Adkins being a good choice of manager on paper the expectations will make any poor start feel like a let down.

Good manager in a can't win situation unless we go up, just a sad fact for Adkins.
