And I can recall many quiet unelectric atmospheres at the lane punctuated with things like 'Bernard Shaw tha rubbish, wunt pay thi in weshers' and my Grandfather announcing. I've bloody finished with this lot, I'm not coming back(he always changed his mind)

Think you'll find that was Lenners' dad! :D

Think it depends on what generation you grow up with as to what your best memories are. Personally I feel sorry for anyone who never got to see the genius of Keith Edwards. Winning the 4th Division Championship brought its own celebrations, the win against Arsenal that night at the Lane in the League cup when we were in the 4th division also.

Great memories of those days and then the Bassett era, when we beat all and everyone against all odds. Anyone who doesn't still remember that win at home against Forest the first season we were up is missing something! That double over the Pigs on their first season back (especially the one at the Sty). The glory of an away win at Anfield to be shortly followed (a couple of weeks later) by the absolute desolation of relegation pretty much sums up being a Blade.

Kids now will remember promotion to the Premiership and the subsequent season beating the Arse at the Lane, paddys save against Bolton, Jags winner against Boro they are all locking in the memory as brilliant times.

Each to their own because they are all equally significant.

But I never met Eskimo and dont even know who he is/was?[/QUOTE]

Eskimo was a good friend of my uncle during the 70's - my nan told me a story of when they went to a match in London only for it to be called off and having to hitch the way back home...on approaching the outer borders of a county I can not remember they were picked up by the police and taken back to their station which meant that they then had to re-hitch/walk those miles lost by being taken back however mny miles. My nan says he was a "top lad"

During the mid 90's as a young lad I worked at William Cook castings near the Parkway with the old man - Eskimo worked there too. I would have a laugh with him (knowing he was good friends with my uncle and that my dad knew him) and call him a poof etc.......he got his revenge when I wasn't fast enough to run away by sitting on me and squeezing the breath out of my lungs! He's a big lad!!

Apparently he used to wear some sort of hat and had a pet mouse that would run around the brim (so mi dad told me!) a 70's kop legend
