Don't get me wrong the lads did well to hold out for 90 mins against the team who has achieved by far the most success in the last 25 years in the English league. I however looked at this game after 60 mins in a totally different way to Mr Adkins and the board because I know what they were thinking £££££'s in a replay and take the fans focus off the poor league position and form.

I see these games as a one off and personally think we should have gone for the kill, not sat back and made defensive substitutions. We had players on the bench who could have potentially won the game for us because it was there for the taking against a side with no idea. Our focus has to be the league not the cup, it is nice to get these days out but we don't need extra games when going for promotion. We had nothing to lose and in the end I feel we went out without really having a go at a team very low on confidence and there for the taking. The 3 players on the bench who we should have brought on to give them something to think about were Done, Adams and Baxter and I honestly think we would have scored and probably won the game, yes Done came on but that's wasn't in anyway to go for the win what did we have to lose?

I am not in any way having a go at the players effort because they gave everything and did deserve a replay but how nice would it have been to beat manure in there own backyard and nail the coffin shut on Van dickheads reign as manager.

The focus now is solely on the league and we have 3 weeks to build a squad of 18-20 players that can have a good go and trying to get out. I am sure if I can handle another season in this awful league.

Have to admit, I'd have rather we'd had a bit of a go in the second half. We were always going to lose, replay or no replay, so why not just have a go at them. As soon as they made the substitutions we were just penned in.

To be fair , that has to be the least threatening Manchester United side since they got relegated in 1972
What a poor excuse of a team they are , by comparison to 5 years ago
we moan about the quality we see some times
but they have spent 250 this season on players , and we didnt look 46 places or thereabouts below them

They played like it was a chore , none of them looked interested , or excited till Memphis came on
Rooney gets 200k a game , wtf for hes a notch up from Porter this season

Sympathy for the (red) devils

We only really tried to get forward in the 95th min. Mixed views on that.

I'm fucking peed off!
Did anyone REALLY expect us to hold on, let alone go out and try and win it, and not fail 'gallantly/unluckily' or whatever spin you want to put on the inevitable, seemingly mandatory, failure of SUFC :blue:

Ditto as the OP, called it the same at half-time, get it to 0-0 with 15-20 minutes to go and bring on pace - JCR, Done and Adams. They were there for the taking. Great team effort from the real United nonetheless.

I had similar feelings halfway through the second half.
Did I want a replay at the Lane?
Man Utd are boring to watch, Rooney aside and he's not he same in this side, have no player who Id love to see live. The expense to go, plus the fact that Manchester United should win and comfortably given their squad. Then I considered and that most important of all, the fact that we have a lot of work to do in a league which has quite an unforgiving programme. I came to the conclusion that I wasn't that bothered and I'd rather we went out on our shield.
I wanted to see JCR and/or Adams brought on to have a go.

We sat amongst the Manchester fans and honestly they are a negative set.
When mata was subbed they were cheers around us and then boo's when he looked up at the stand.
When the penalty was given, the crowd around us celebrated like they had won the champions league.
One word summed up there quiet lot yesterday,
Desperate.
Our fans we're fantastic.

You would rather we lost than have to fork out for a replay at the lane ?? Fuck me.

Listening to them moaning was quite funny though. No, scratch that, it was very funny.

Interesting what you took out of my post. I wanted us to go for a win rather than having an extra game to play given what we need to do in the league. It's quite clear really unless your still upset because we disagreed about something previously.
Probably says more about you than me I'd think.

My thoughts this morning, frustrated again, we never seem to get anything on the big occasions - is this me being paranoid?

A battling, gritty performance understand why the team was set up in the way it was, but would have liked us to have had a go in the last 15 perhaps with Che & JCR upfront.

Can't knock the performance and would have loved to get them back to the Lane..but to be honest I thought if we could have brought on some pace..they were there for the taking, the game was there to be won..they were the worst Newton Heath outfit I've seen for a long time..so pedestrian...Ironically the lad who won the pen and the game was about the only player on the pitch to run past his man and try and get in behind...although I loved it when Coutts made Swinesteiger(sp) look like a player out of the North Counties East league, and pushed it past him and got to the byline..Great backing from the travelling Blades though..UTB!

You very selectively edited quite a lengthy post ignoring both the conclusion and the section which commenced with the words "most important of all", therefore giving a lot of weight to my assumption that you were just being a WUM because we disagreed on something previously.
Maybe this debating thing isn't your bag, as you clearly get upset and take it too personally.

keep patronising you brilliant debater.

Agree with the OP. It made sense to play the way we did in the first half to quieten the home support, but we should have been more adventurous after the break . The crowd were on their backs and the confidence of some Man Utd players looked shot.

To have only one potential goalscorer (and apparently he was only half fit) on the pitch was a mistake. Adkins should have gone for the jugular and replaced Sharp and Sammon with Adams and Done early in second half. We needed someone to run with the ball, create problems and relieve the pressure on our defence.

First a weakened team at Fulham and then probably the most defensive performance I've ever seen from United. It's ironic that "negative Nigel" was actually far more positive in the cups than "positive Nigel". He showed this Dutch manager far too much "reshpect".

Yeah I agree with that. As time pushed on, and Man United had nothing really in terms of attacking, i'd have gone for it. Baxter and JCR should have come on for me. Perhaps the McEverley injury changed the plan - but we had nothing to lose.

Made me shake my head did that one. Yes I wanted us to have a go but not at the expense of losing. I never want to see us lose. Would have loved them back at the lane getting under there skin and seeing Van Gaal breaking into a sweat and squirming in the dugout. Maybe then he would have seen what passionate supporters are all about

We had a replay to lose. Which we were looking good for.

Quite disappointed? I'm fucking gutted! Yet again the Blades get shat on in the usual fashion by the FG's. :(

Oh no, I've never, ever claimed to be a brilliant debater, just that you seem unable to have a difference of opinion without taking it terribly personally and then looking to troll me. I just find it a bit pathetic really, I suppose I should be flattered.

I have never referred to any previous discussion or subject ,you have thrown insults out at my debating ability ,I have pointed out that you wanted us to lose in a post which you then said I selectively edited ,and now Im a troll.
