My favorite home game against Sunderland was October 1978, we won 3:2 and it was also on MoTd as the division 2 game. It was an excellent game, with one of our goals finishing second in the MoTd goal of the season, Steve Finnieston?. I also remember the scrapping around BDTBL before and after the game, they brought a good few that season, I remember one of the Sunderland fans was saying Newcastle was one of their next games and they expected a beating off the pitch.
Peter Anderson..

did anybody go to the game away in 1979 when we lost 6-2 ? heard sabbela was outstanding and they still wanted to quick fuck out of blades fans
The game was all over at half time. I was at the Roker End and had no probs at all, but lived locally and knew to avoid the maniacs at the Fulwell End.

The only time I went to Roker Park was March 9th, 1991. That was the season when - freshly promoted from Division 2 to the top flight - we didn't win until our 17th game (home to Forest, Dec. 22). After that, we only lost 6 more games and were beating teams like Man. Utd., Chelsea, Everton (away) for fun. That team had character in spades - similar to the present one - and Bassetts Blades finally made survival safe on April 13th at a sun-drenched Loftus Road in front of thousands of fluorescent-clad Blades. This was the game when the legend of 'Sir Bob Booker' was made.

I was there too that day and it certainly got a bit hairy. One of their fans lobbed a pie at Vinnie Jones so he took a bite and chucked it back at them, which didn't go down well. It was a tight dour game and Bryson's winner certainly didn't go down well.
Then at the end there was some argy bargy in the tunnel and it turned out Hodgy had elbowed one of them in the face, predictably, it didn't go down well.

Bedlam outside and queuing in the car to get over that bridge was a bit dodgy. Large groups of their fans peering into every car for signs of who needed a kicking.

Bloody freezing too.
