I’m starting to think that McBurnie may just in actual fact be

Isn't to support and encourage our players part of why we are there? We have posters on here complaining about the tone of some chants and now some complaining about supportive ones. Really can't win can we? 😁
It’s a perverse logic that is beyond me then.

It’s difficult to be supportive of individuals who weaken our side. Weaken our ambitions. Decrease our chances.

Wank is as Wank does.

Believe it or not, the entire squad of professional footballers are all extremely good at football.

Circumstances including confidence, tactics and environment will affect if a player performs at/near their best for a club.

i.e. Supporting players gives them the best chance.
Criticising your own players almost guarantee their failure. Not necessarily on a forum, but potentially, and certainly including social media.

I think Brownblade summed it up well. I have been critical of McBurnie's contribution myself but when he plays I support him in the hope he will improve.

We have an exciting new shape under Slav, but I think that we are short of the CF to make it purr.

BS has done a great job so far, but isn't ideal, although I have no qualms about him coming off the bench.

I think that the position will be addressed in the JTW and we'll see 2 or 3 leaving an 1 coming in. I think that the general unhappiness amongst the fans is that since promotion to the PL, we spent £65m+ on supposed PL level strikers/forwards, who when the dust settles aren't even reliable championship level, and the one player who we were looking at to fire us to promotion this year is fast approaching 36.

WANK.

I’ve backed him and defended him and really want him and Brewster to come good.

I even fancied him to grab one when he made his appearance, but he just looks so weak in the air.

I know he has a bit of a languid style. For the first time though today I did look at him and think “ maybe he is just wank” and it’s not going to happen for him.

Hope he can go on a bit of a scoring run for us. But maybe he is just wank.

Another three points today though.

Thought he linked up play and was a target… allowed Billy to be elsewhere causing problems

Slav will try and get as much out of Billy as possible this season, even with the missed chances. Giving McBurnie and Brewster a run in the starting XI is a gamble. In an ideal world Oli and Rhian would get a few goals playing together while Billy makes cameos off the bench and that would boost their confidence, maybe Slav will switch to those two up top against weaker teams.

Not sure what it is with Mcburnie but he seems to be much better positioning wise when defending, more often than not when it's a ball into our box he's on the end of it but up the other end he's never anywhere near it

he's just not got that strikers instinct, Sharp is much better at scoring headers than him despite being significantly shorter because he knows where to position himself and move to find space

We have never used him right, he scored goals regularly everywhere but here, Barnsley, Swans, both played it into his feet, got early crosses into him

We, as we have tended to for along as I can remember, when we have a big man, we just fucking lump it

Used right still believe he would be a 20 goal a season striker in this division

I think that this view now has a very limited shelf life given his performances in the last 2 and a half years.

Cross after cross in the box yesterday. 9 times out of 10 he was nowhere to be seen.

He was involved in the penalty incident though it was telling that had Davis not had his brain freeze the Derby player behind him would have headed the ball.

None of our forwards are suitable for the way Slav wants to play. Sharp is, however, having a pretty good go at the role. Heaven help us if he gets injured.

I was willing to listen right up until the bit where you said that he’s weak in the air. He’s the most aerially dominant centre forward we’ve had since James Hanson. Going further back, possibly Rob Hulse?

Times yesterday when we attacking down the flanks and I expect him to be far side of the penalty area to enable him to attack the ball
But he seemed to be near side, not sure if it’s a confidence thing, a coaching thing or just lost his way playing Wilder ball when he never knew when the ball was coming into the box, but with the number of coaches we now have I would expect his positional play to improve

3 headed goals in 70 league games is not arielly dominant.

Fair comment re; his goal scoring, but he wins a significant amount of headers when the balls played up to him & defensively he clears more crosses in than any other non defender in the side.

Of all the things to criticise McBurnie about, his ability in the air isn’t one of them.

Edit* Shouldn’t be one of them!

I agree re the Ariel duels and the defensive heading, but his heading for goal veers between mediocre and woeful.

i think if anybody comes in for mcburnie and brewster in january slav will let them go even if its only on loan and i also think he will try and bring another striker in to fit his 4231 system

Somebody with the pace to stretch defences but enough physicality to do a lot of the stuff Billy does.

I'd have kept Jebbison around and given him 20 minutes most games. After that? I honestly don't know but I'd guess someone on loan. Keinan Davis from Villa if he ever gets fit again. Tyler Roberts from Leeds?
You see that Tyler Roberts miss against us in the Championship at Bellend Road? ;)

Nowhere near Hulse as a comparison of a target man , Hulse had a lot better positional sense than McBurnie and was equally happy holding the ball up & bringing in midfield runners or attacking the ball from crosses . Hanson was a great foil for Sharp in league one when again sides sat deep against us and got results . The irony is I think we are crying out for someone in that role when we need to changes things up but I don’t think McBurnie has the same physical presence.
If you look on you tube for his goals for Swansea 3 seasons ago who played with 2 winger still a lot were from wide delivery into the box but they but the ball in early where as we often fuck about turn back 3 times before it goes in . I thought Slav might be able to get the best out of him but I now wonder if he’s just one of those players that don’t fit our system of play ⚔️

McBurnies lack of onfield aggression and the mind control he suffered during his povo service Wilderball has cursed him from playing at his best for us. Guarantee you though that whatever club he is at next he will be back to that 2019 swansea form no doubt about it.

Myth - He lost the 5th most aerial duels in the premier League, season before last. And lost many, many more than he won. It's actually quite a terrible record.
Really? That’s interesting.

One thing I would say is that the one he wins rarely reach one of our players, as for years now he hen he plays in a 2 the two forwards stand too far apart.

His heading ability is shockingly poor, abysmal.

He is very good in our box defending corners and set pieces, he just has to get a headed on it, doesn't have to find anyone just get a strong enough head to clear it, he does this very well.

But what we signed him for is goals and not as a defender, his heading ability on the opposition box is terrible and that's on the very rare occasions his positional sense is there and he finds himself on the end of a cross, he will head it over, wide, or onto his own shoulder 9 times out 10.

And anyone who says he wins a lot of aerial duals when we play the long ball or a hoof up top, yes he may get his head on to plenty, even finds himself with loads of space in their half and basically a free header. How many of these headers find a Blades shirt? I would say 1 out of 10, his headers, flick on's, nearly always find an opposition player, the touch line or runs through for a goal kick. You watch how many times he actually gets up and heads it to a Blades player, I mean rises and intentionally directs it towards a team mate. He just doesn't.

I think he's properly, properly lost his way, after playing in a side that lost all confidence and created few chances last year. Now, like others, he's trying to learn his role in a new system.

But I must admit, he looks lost and really unclear on his role.

Who's doing striker coaching at the club?

None of them are a patch on Bill, being entirely honest. Not even close.
I agree with this and I was kind of upset when at the beginning of the season that Billy was our best striker. The more I watch him I've come to realise there's not many better in the championship. He missed 2 yesterday he should've scored but overall he played well. Centre half's know they've been in a game when Billy's played

I spoke to my mum on the phone today, she's in her 60's and has sat on the kop every week since about 1995. As I can't get to the games any more due to living in Germany I thought i'd ask her about the match yesterday.

'We were crap. AND THAT MCBURNIE - needs to stop FAFFIN about wi it. I hate him me. He needs to put his stick legs away and stop FAFFIN about wi it.'

That's good enough for me. I hadn't made my mind up about him but now I have.

McBurnie may yet come good for us. Yes he has scored significantly with Swansea and when he is on the pitch he does try.
But he doesn't have the quality of Ollie Watkins an Ivan Toney or Gyokeres at Coventry. He isn't pacey, strong or a clinical finisher. He is an average Championship striker who needs to be bang at it every time he plays to give us a return.

He strikes me as immature and lacking in football intelligence. Getting involved needlessly in pushing and shoving and being mouthy. Giving away needless frees. In football terms definitely not the best at creating space and positioning for himself.

He has fans and detractors which is understandable based on his performances and peoples views on whether he can turn it around.
The one thing we should all agree on is that he isn't and never was an £18M striker. He doesn't have that class. So like with Mousset and Brewster the selling team has had our pants down because our recruitment team were clueless.
The transfer fee does come into my consideration when assessing a player I want value for money. That also leads to thoughts about what we could have done with the money instead.

So in conclusion. I hope he turns it on when he gets a chance it would help us with having options up front. If we do go up he is not good enough and if we do sell him then he is only worth about half what we paid for him. That's being realistic in my book.

He came on in the 66th minute and had 9 touches of the ball. That’s hardly a decent contribution in my opinion.
