Hussey claiming responsibility

We've got full backs ( Lafferty and Freeman) at wing back with limited crossing technique and before Clarke regained fitness no forward who is slightly interested in competing for crosses which are usually knocked in by defenders on the left because Lafferty passes the buck.

Clarke had no interest in doing anything on Sunday save for committing the foul that got him booked.

His sheer lack of effort put me in mind of Darius Henderson.

Is it only me who thinks Bob Harris would've been great to play in a team, the way in which we set up now?

I think he'd have got double figure assists and chipped in with not far off double figure goals too. His crossing is better than the two players we have playing in that position put together.

Shame he can't stay fit!

Shame he's more interested in radio than football unall!

Lafferty to me seems underrated by many fans. Defensively sound, athletic, comfortable on the ball, very much an all round player. Seems to get some unnecessary stick. A 7/10 every week, steady influence on the left side of the pitch. Compared to Hussey, every time I've seen him he's been toilet. Lafferty without doubt is the better option at wing back, just needs to pop up with more goals now

I agree that Lafferty is a steady Eddie in the LWB position. He tends to be OK rarely being very good or very bad. It would be nice if he could beat a man though. We don’t have an abundance of players that can and the WB positions in our formation are where you want that type of player. Think Vas Borbokis in that 97-98 season. I wonder what Jean Calve is up to these days? He couldn’t defend for shit but was excellent going forward.

Hussey might not be great but he could be of more use to us in the 3-5-2 than Lafferty is, at least in certain types of games, such as the next two at home. If he does get his chance I hope our fans watch him with fresh eyes, forget previous performances and get behind him. His poor games were in a back four, he could look very different in the 3-5-2.

Wrong. No he couldn't. The formation doesn't affect how well a player performs. That's down to attitude and ability. If he's crap in a 3-5-2 he'll be crap in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or 3-5-1-1 or 0800 696969 all calls cost 50p a minute.

Lafferty S24SU ratings in 13 league games - average of 6.45.

One rating 8.03, one 7.26, all rest below 7 including 3 below 6.

Of course formations can affect how a player performs. Especially when it means that player is playing in a different position. Hussey at LWB will spend more time further forward, less time in defensive areas where he's not great and will have cover with a LCB in the team. Just as some central midfielders will look much better in a 3 than a 2, same with centre halves - we currently have examples of this in both these parts of the team.

During the first checker fraud game against Leicester, Hussey put some great balls in, maybe because he was not under match day pressure?

I'll concede a little bit on this. If you put a centre forward in goal, or a goalkeeper at centre forward it would affect how well they play. I'll also admit that putting someone like Scougall at centre-half wouldn't be a good idea. But a good outfield player, with ball at feet, running into an area of grass, whether that's on the left, on the right, in the middle, up front or at the back, has a similar opportunity to demonstrate their ability on the ball. That may be passing, dribbling, tackling, crossing, shooting. Depending on where they are playing it may suit them better in different positions. But if you've got a guy who is playing in his favoured position and doesn't do any of these particularly well you've got your answer I think.

I was a bit harsh on Hussey maybe? He seems like a nice kid and I hope he can come good but my feeling is he won't quite step up to the mark. Maybe he's ok as back-up for now, but really and truly, what future is there for him if we go up next season?
