That Google thingymibob is a wonderful thing.
Very true! And sometimes I’m tempted to just check my facts, what year, what date, what score, who scored? etc., before posting. And other times I’m not, because I think it’s what’s fresh in my mind that’s more important. Any smart arse can Google everything thesedays. So I just did and in fact Hull did win, but they needed to win by 3 to go up and they only won by 2!
I didn’t remember the score but I did remember things you can’t find on Google:
The memory is one of a fine balmy evening in
Burnley. The drive there through such exotic places as Luddendenfoot, Todmorden and Bacup. Lots of pubs along the way with Blades in their colours drinking outside. We stood behind the goal in Blades colours chanting for Burnley. Much to the chagrin of Hull’s fans. A goal in which Hull threatened to score several times in that second half, but didn’t. Billy Whitehurst was playing for Hull that night and he was a handful. Every attack they had, and they had plenty, was terrifying. I remember the joy and relief amongst Blades fans at the final whistle. I remember the celebrations all the way back to Sheffield.
We were discussing why Hull fans don’t like us. There’s a good reason.
The signings of Keith Edwards, Brian Mareood and Billy Whitehurst may be others? Let’s hope what we do to them today will be another!
