Rotten result,

Brightish start but chins hit the floor as soon as Hull scored and we looked like we didn’t believe we could get back into it once we fell behind, and that is against a pretty poor Hull side, I dread to think what will happen when we go up against teams like Coventry.

I can’t be arsed to give individual ratings as I’m losing interest rapidly and quite frankly we look absolutely nailed on to be relegated.

I don’t think Wilder has improved us much at all, yes Selles had to go but the reappointment of Wilder looks an absolute disaster.

50 points look light years away for this squad, I know people, are hoping we are not to far adrift come The January Transfer window and we can fix things then but I remember this is the same management and recruitment team that messed up last January so I have no confidence at all they will get it right this time, and it won’t be long before the debate begins whether Wilder is the right man to get us back from League one at the first attempt.

Glad its the International break now and United won’t be ruining another weekend for a bit.

Your opening para highlights how there is delusion that Wilder 2.0 is the same as Wilder 1.0. I am a Wilder fan, but the run we have been on with Wilder 2.0 (even if you exclude the intermission under Selles) since Easter is an absolute disgrace. It is a further disgrace that the issues which undermined us at the end of last season were not addressed over the summer, including:

Lack of pace
Poor midfield that couldn't create saliva and offers zero goals / creativity
One up front with strikers that don't suit one up front
A lack of a right back
Poor back ups for the keeper and left back
No wingers in a wingers based system.

Wilder couldn't influence the summer transfer window, so he gets a pass for that. But even as a Wilder fan, he can't indefinitely get a pass for the utter sh1t being served up on the pitch right now (which has been going on under his leadership last Easter).

Really do appreciate the effort this must take, and would miss not seeing your report

But it does seem now that you're playing the result/ pandering to some of the smaller brains on here.

If playing the result is being critical of us losing every week (3 league wins in half a year!) then yeah, guilty as charged!

Need to play 2 up top to create more goalscoring opportunities.

I would play Ings alongside One/Campbell (alternating)

Drop O'Hare and Peck and play Davies with Soumare centrally.

Ogbene out wide and Seriki on the other flank.

Thought McCallum did ok today, probably keep him in.

Got to make some changes or we're gonna be going down.

Agree with that apart from Seriki on the left , not sure that would work?

I didn't watch the game, only saw Burrows penalty which he hit hard and true, keeper did well.

Agree recruitment has been a disaster, especially when you consider both Anel and Souza went for big sums this Summer... Tanganga, Mee and possibly Ings the only ones who look respectable and 2 of them came on free transfers. We need assurances that whatever scouting and recruitment methodology was used in the Summer will NEVER be used again.
Hard and true, give over a natural strike for a left footer is to put it to the keepers left, not open your body up to put it to the keepers right. Knew he would miss it, Burrows has fell off a cliff and he's not on his own. Maybe the demoralising Wembley defeat is too big a hangover for our players to shake off 🤔

Selecting Tom Cannon for the match day squad is now beyond stupid, it can only be down stubbornness as it’s clear the fans don’t want him in the side and it’s looks just as obvious to me he’d rather not be here.

Put him on gardening leave and sell him at the first opportunity In January for a nominal fee, he is currently a massive albatross around the clubs neck.

Just put him in the U23s and get a loan lined up for him on January 1st. Someone will be daft enough to take him.

See Sitwell! He thinks we will be fine 🙂

Playing the result = some people feel a certain way so I'll play to it.

In reality last 2 weeks have not been too bad, today especially we should have won. I wonder how your scores would have differed if we had scored a penalty.

And that's where, really, youre playing to the miserable crowd. Not that you need much of an excuse 😉

Or we've lost, played crap against an awful side who've shipped goals all season but rarely tested till last few mins, so I've offered an honest assessment. I admire your positivity but the last 2 weeks have been only marginally better than under Selles. It's not about playing to any crowd. I just call it as I see it.

Hard not to be miserable when we have lost 9 in 10 games I'm sorry to say.

Agree with your report today and most weeks. You have good insights which you put over in nice short pithy statements. Enjoy reading your reports each week. You bring clarity to what I was struggling to make clear to myself.

Curious at to whose decision it was then? It's his decision to sign the contract to return.

I suspect that he was still technically under contract and was called back in. So he didn’t sign any contract to return.

Goes against the grain and what I've thought of his performances so far but McGuiness was decent yesterday. In fact I thought the back 3 plus McCallum were all decent enough.

From where I was sat it was hard to get a decent perspective on how much room McCallum allowed their winger for the goal but outside of that he was by far our best player in the first half and many around us were a bit bewildered when we subbed him off.

I was as disappointed as many immediately afterwards but on reflection it wasn't a terrible away performance. The lack of chance creation is worrying but we certainly did enough for a point at the very least.

One or two of their fans on the way out wondered how/why we were bottom but we'd just lost to them and I felt they were awful so that probably tells you why!

It was a standard, cautious away performance under Wilder, and unfortunately we lost out by the odd goal. It's better than it was under Selles but based on what we saw last season with a much better squad, I'm not sure a huge amount of attacking improvement is guaranteed.

We have 3 points from 9 games and keep giving up big chances from shocking defending, and not taking the few chances we do create. Scoring 0 against a team as shaky as that isn't a good sign. We only had 7 shots, 1 on target in the first 85 minutes. 3 shots, 0 on target from the 40th to the 85th minute despite being 1-0 down in a must win game. It took desperation attacking and Hull clinging on for anything to happen.

A bit better than Selles, competitive with a poor Hull team might not be enough to dig out of this hole.
