He bullied our defence in the cup game at the Lane last season when he came on. He's a big, powerful hold up type. This deal would possibly indicate that we will be playing one up top with Brooks, Duffy or another supporting. A development I've seen coming for some time. I don't really see an ideal partner within the current squad, although a Brooks could be given a free role.Personally, I would not like to spend 3-4 million on a loan signing. If you don't go up it's complete false economy as you have no asset.

He would be a quality signing for me. It's not just about goals (but 1-3 is good in this league in that team). He works hard, harries defenders, has a good attitude and gives everything. We'd also have the option to buy at the end of it as well.

If we are really in for him, signing or loan, it's proof the budget has improved markedly. Very good addition in my opinion, he's as good as we can expect to bring in. Big, physical and can score with head and foot.

Importantly hes ideal competition for Clarke, we has nobody to bring in when Clarke hit his flat spell last season so the 2 of them competing for one spot...or even playing alongside each other gives us more options up front.

But can you say the same for Rhodes!??

Definitely not!! Rhodes is an alternative for some clubs - not us because I can't see Wednesday loaning him to us - but I'd much rather Hugill.

I was referring to your statement-

" I know videos can be deceptive but he must have cost 8 million for a reason last season."

Owwwww, tough one. On one hand we aren't desperate for goals, a plan B, a threat in the air and a physical presence would be fantastic.
On the other, doesn't Rhodes have the 2nd most goals in Championship history?
Anyway, it's irrelevant. We won't get Rhodes.
To be honest I'd rather have Hooper than both of them but that ain't happening either.

I'd have Rhodes in a shot. He needs love, belief and treating like a lost foal by CW; wrap him in a warm blanket, put him in front of the fire, bottle feed him warm milk and let him play with the family Labrador. He'll nervously find his feet again and repay you with 20 goals a season. He's 28, he's finished at Wednesday and he needs to make a personal decision about whether he sits on the remainder of his contract or makes a brave decision to maximise the last 4 years of his career.

Never rated him ,in every.game I've seen.him play all the way back to.his Huddersfield days I don't think ive seen him touch the ball more than half a dozen times

He's scored nearly 105 goals in just over 230 games in the championship, and it's only his time at Wednesday that has dragged his averages down with roughly 10 in 50. I'd pay them £1m for a season's loan rather than £1.5m for Hugill.

I ask you, Blades of the Rumour Mill, what's the maximum loan fee we should pay for someone like Hugill?

Because we'd inevitably have to pay one for a player like this, and even many younger players.

I wouldn't want to go above £1m. But it's a key position that's hard to recruit for, and if you know what you're getting with someone arguably it's worth it. Would it be better to spend £4m on someone permanently with no more performance guarantees?

Given that you'd expect the main striker signing to account for a large section of the budget, spending 'only' £1m on a loan fee could actually enable you to spread the budget further.
You know what it’s a tough one. We could sign 4 ‘quality’ strikers (not necesarily proven) for around £5m if they were loans. I’m all up for that in a sense (and think we will have too) It’s just a gamble on the commitment they will show. Same could be said for permanents though in fairness.

If this guy was the first signing on loan I’d be buzzing to be fair. But contracted until he’s 30 at West Ham, so earned a nice retirement pot hasn’t he, would he be as committed. Some would, some wouldn’t

Personally, wouldn't go anywhere near him

Can just imagine forking out £1.5m and astronomic wages to witness him being as shit for us as he was for them. Pigs would fkin piss themselves

And yes, there's a chance CW could turn his fortunes around, but there's no guarantees, so for me, I'd leave well alone and hope he fks up FFP for that lot

I'm presuming the fee would mean we still have to pay some of his wages and not 'just' the fee and his parent club pay him? Presuming we'd pay, say £10k p/w and they pay the rest as a conservative estimate then that's a hell of an outlay on a single player. I've not seen enough of him to comment but I'm happy we have a budget that would enable such a signing (if it's true). It's a step up from last year for sure.

I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole. All players go in and out of form and favour. But I’m sorry, when you’ve got a striker that doesn’t want to take a penalty then that is a serious sign of something wrong.

He did well at Huddersfield and Blackburn. Coincidentally, so did Jon Stead! I’d rather have Jon Stead back than him!

They'd never let him join us on loan for obvious reasons. It'd have to be a permanent signing.

A simple search on Jordan Rhodes reveals his wage at Blackburn in 2012 was £42,000/week. Since then he has been involved in two big money transfers where I'm guessing his agent didn't advise him to take a pay cut.

I would assume that the fee would include West Ham paying his wages. Loan fees normally cover all of that.

Disregarding his historic earnings, I'd respectfully suggest that he's got as much chance of earning that with his next club as I have of growing myself a twat & spending the rest of my days happily fucking myself. Wednesday will need to pay him off, and then he's back in the land of sensible wages. :)

I doubt his agent would try and persuade him to have big-money moves and lower his wages.
I also doubt that Wendy will pay him off to enable him to move to us on loan.

I agree with the 1st part, but after his shit show at Wednesday those days are well and truly over. He's worth £2m to £3m, if that and the clubs he'd be looking at would pay 1/2 of what he's on at best. Regarding the 2nd part, maybe not to us, but I suspect that they've got to do some some drastic deals in the summer involving getting four/five from Boyd (1yr left), Matias (1yr left), Joao (1yr left), Hooper (2yrs left), Fletcher (2yrs left), Rhodes (2yrs left?) & Foresteri (2yrs left) off the wage bill either fully or partially, seeing as Nuhui just renewed for another 2yrs.

Much admiration for young Jordan
Strong powerful mobile handful good in the air.

But not a single mention of any discernible technical attributes :(

Oh how I yearn :)

You just mentioned one: "good in the air". It does seem a strange target though, unless we have an excellent 'technical' partner, or are playing two excellent technicians behind him.

I heard we were interested in Hugill at the start of last season but the fee was too high then he got off to a great start with Preston and there was no chance of us affording it.
