I know that Man U win everything, Swansea pass it around a lot, Stoke hoofed it until recently, a few teams spend an awful lot, Tottenham attacked a lot under Redknapp. I'm drying up, seriously.

But the biggy - Sheffield United are wank, unfortunately.

Can't say I give a toss. Sky put us on the TV loads during Warnock's days, not because we were pretty to watch, but because we were a full-blooded side and it made for exciting matches.

The worst thing about us now is that we are nondescript - trying to play Swansea style football but with pub team players, and it's dull as f*ck (and doesn't work).

Get Neil back.

Im afraid pinch is spot on ,every time a ball is passed more than 5 yards our popularity ratings plummet vice versa when we play backwards and sideways possesion we become everyones second club
The other day in the boozer a man id never met before bought me a pint as he could see we were trying to change the ethos and public perception of the club as coventrys third goal crashed in

However later on after we pulled it back to 3-2 he accused of betraying our principles and playing anti football he then trried to glass me screaming something about hoof

Certainly opened d my eyes

It's the same for me. I overheard someone on a train talking about a pass Harry made against Carlisle the other week. Apparently it was a 25 yarder off the side of his foot to Hill, who was on the other edge of the box.

It was the talk of the train, and made getting played off the park and getting stuffed by bottom of the table Carlisle in front of 3,000 all worth while.

That's nothing. I have a case where the Defendant was really playing hard ball, but he rang me up a couple of weeks ago and said "listen, you're a Blades fan, aren't you? I so admire what Weir has done with your team, that I am going to give your client £1 million and pay your fees at the rate of £1000 a hour".

Both me and my client were going to retire on that, but since we sacked Weir, he has changed his mind....

That's the ethos thing for you. It's underrated. Our ethos will carry us through V Nuneaton, and the world will sit up and watch. Ask Pinchy.

I hear that the League are going to give retrospective points for ethos. As a result we finished 11th in the conference in 1991-92 and we are currently 8th in the PL.

So if we get Weir and Carsley back, there's a real possibility that we could win the league?

(In front of 5,000).

I'd really like to be dsliked again like we were when we beat Leeds 4 nil at Elland Rd, got to semi finals and the Premiership and regularly beat Wednesday.
Or we could get used to being laughed at like we are now through characterless manager appointments playing pisspot pass and lose.

I'll PASS on that one

A bit of a change of pace from 'new manager threads' but I have been away the last few days with work down in the West Country and stopping overnight in a hotel with work colleagues from around the country.

Anyway whilst a number of us were watching the England Game talk turned to football and the respective clubs we all support. There were about eight different teams who we followed and this is a summary of their views on SUFC

1. We are not well liked, though not as disliked as Leeds, most of them would favour the pigs if they were watching a Sheffield Derby on TV.

2. Main reasons given for disliking us were Neil Warnocks years, Ched, sacking Wilson whilst in the top six and Chris Morgan elbowing Hume (Tevez not an issue surpringly but there were no West Ham fans there)

3. Most of them said we would not be back in top flight anytime in the next decade, but they did think we would be back in the championship in the next couple of years.

4. None of them thought we would be relegated this season.

Were you talking to Barnsley fans?

I was speaking to a Man U fan & a Man C fan the other week and both had nothing but good things to say about us.

Nobody really notices Sheffield United unless we're in The Premiership or on a cup run beating somebody famous. Do you really think football fans up and down the country are saying "I used to dislike Sheffield United but I'm really warming to them now they're trying to change the whole ethos of the club".

I do think many other fans are genuinely shocked where we are. I was when the likes of Leeds, Norwich, Southampton, Man City etc. were in this league and we are lower than they ever were (well apart from Southampton & Leeds who had points deducted)

It would seem our popularity is rising after the appointment of our new manager. Lots of Derby fans wishing him all the best and good luck to us.

You ask the average football fan who our managers have been in the last 30 years and they would name the successful ones Bassett and Warnock. That's because we actually got to appear on TV on regular basis when they were our managers. Not because we were "shameful and embarrassing" back then. The exact opposite in fact, it's the only time as a Blades supporter that anyone under 45 can be genuinely proud of.

This cannot be true! After all, Bassett and Warnock were hoofers in chief, and no television company would lower itself to screen such menial rubbish.

And Bassett and Warnock couldn't have had any success. That is impossible whilst playing hoof. Pinchy's law says so.

Does it bother you that people look at you the way they look at say Stoke?..Tony Pulis certainly didn´t make Stoke popular I mean.

Manchester United are considered by most pundits to be a good footballing side and yet whilst Alex Ferguson was manager I think it is probably fair to say that they were disliked by the majority of non Manchester United supporters.

Neither success nor a perception that you play good football is any guarantee at all of popularity.

We are constantly mentioned in TV games that are nothing to do with us. I have wages with my brother over how many times we will be brought up. If we are hated, its never made any difference to me as a fan. Whenever I'm out of Sheffield and I identify myself as a blade, I tend to have a chat with another fan about footy. They dont start smashing my face in.

Actually quite a lot of us. Many of us are heartily sick of the anti-football reputation that many Blades, rather perversely, wear as a Badge of Honour. When we win, it is all too easy for the opposition to say they were beaten by a 'style of play' and thus SUFC get no credit at all.

I actually do want outsiders (managers, players, fans and media alike) to admire a winning Sheffield United team, rather than exhibit grudging resentment. Is that really a bad thing?

I don't give a fuck. I want to see us win.

But, Basset and Warnock didn't have any success, did they.
Unless you count a radius of one mile out of Bramall lane success.

They are the only managers to have managed us in the top division for the best part of 40 years.

That's success by the standards of SUFC.

I would say most football fans probably know more about Warnock and Bassett than they do about the Blades and that's why we have the hoof reputation...

Well, you count the trophies.
I'm not belittling them especially Bassett, but, let's not rewrite history to suite ourselves.

So you are only successful if you win a trophy. Nothing else counts as being in any way successful?!
