The season is almost upon us and here's a little fun for you all. No feelings of grandeur or "massiveness" in this, it's just a bit of fun to get us to Saturday.

I did poll near the end of last season asking forum members how many points we world get by the end of the season, so this one is on a slightly similar theme.

Congrats to the 2 or 3 who said we would get 100 points (yes swiss - we KNOW you were one :)) and piss off to the four piggies that said we wouldn't get any more.....haha, you delusional, know nothing twats.

So this post/poll is a slight doff of the cap to CW & AK when they were at Northampton in that they went 24 games unbeaten at the end of the season then 7 after promotion. OK, so Rob Page was in charge for the 7, but the momentum was theirs and all in all it was the same team - so 31 in total.

We presently stand at 17 and I believe some one mentioned a while ago that our all time record is 22 - perhaps someone wants to confirm?. Any way, we are not going to get a much better chance to beat our record.

BUT...........how many do you think we will get before the first LEAGUE defeat. This bit of fun does not include cup games.

The starting point is of course 17 - which would sadly mean Brentford would do us first game. Wasn't sure where to end it, but will go for the first 10 games which seems reasonable. I have purposefully picked 10 as us "oldies" remember our top of the table jaunt back in he 70's where it was Man U away in the 11th game - and Georgie in particular that did us that day. Our record up to that point in the season was P10, W8, D2.........just wow :)

Rules:
Poll lasts for 5 days only - it then closes so no chance to alter after game 1 (if unbeaten of course)
You get 1 choice only and no chance of change - so give it some thought.

That's it - good luck :)

Without wanting to be "that guy" I do expect Brentford to beat us, hope to be pleasantly surprised though...
Tend to agree on the Brentford game, as in they will not be easy, I'd go for 2:2 . I think it will be a tough start to the season, but fully expect us to dig deep and make games difficult for our opponents and we will surprise a few.
Lose at boro.

Don't want to worry anyone, but we don't actually start the season as unbeaten, we start with zero points after zero games. Our Unbeaten run starts if we get a draw or win on Saturday.

The record unbeaten league games for us is indeed 22. Set in 1889-1900.

I don't "expect" Brentford to beat us at all....they may well do so but I certainly don't expect a defeat on Saturday... our pre-season and recruitment hasn't given me any reason to expect a defeat on opening day. Our pre season results have been similar, we both beat a La-Liga side and Brentford drew with Southampton as we beat Stoke. Brentford have also scored a lot of goals pre-season, (17) but there again they have conceded a lot too, (10) across their 6 games.

If I expect anything then it will be an entertaining draw....2-2 as suggested by Neusch sounds about right.

Draw with Brentford, win at Boro, then lose to a dodgy pen at Cardiff, so 19. (Sorry)

I've predicted Brentford to finish 3rd this season ahead of a 6th place Blades. They are a very well blended team and finished the season in good form. That said I think the Bramall Lane factor and the fact we will give them no space to play football will mean a win or draw to start the season.

Seagull thanks for your contribution but can you see yourselves getting past your first game undefeated. Wishing you were back in the Championship now aren't we?

Ditto.
2-2 at the Lane on Sat and a defeat bringing us down to earth with a bump at Boro, then onto the next 18 match unbeaten run :)

Don't hold me to this one but I'm gonna say 46 games unbeaten and we will finnish 4th bottom. If everything stays as it is table will look like this and I'd take it all day long

I've gone for 21 games unbeaten, which would mean our next defeat would be to Derby at Home.

I certainly don't "expect" us to lose to Brentford, fancy 2-2 myself. However away at boro is going to be a tough game and don't see us getting anything there

What a great opportunity to doff our caps to our early opponents. The forelock-tuggers will be out in force.

I'm in fear and trembling of the titans that are Brentford already. They could batter us.

Nothing to do with 'cap doffing', just respect for a well run club playing a fast exciting brand of football. Your hobby horses can get overridden you know?

Perhaps we should have something like a donkey sanctuary for you to put your old cliches out to grass? It's only fair after the amount of work they have done for you over the years.

Actually they could, but they probably won't. They aren't 'titans' of course, but they are a good team and will finish in the lower play off spots or slightly below that.

Showing other clubs a bit of respect is just that. No agenda and no fawning but a bit of realism from time to time. You should try it one day.

we will and should fear "no one" that is how Chris Wilder got them to think last year and why would he change that, gone is the mentality that ever team will be difficult, they are coming to the lane and one packed with People who have accepted in the most the positive attitude from Wilder and Knilly and will see this year no matter the Opponents we Fear NO ONE

It's not about fearing anyone, it's about being aware that we're playing one of the better teams in this division and it's not a catastrophe if we don't win. It would be great to get off to a good start and I hope we do but no panicking if Brentford turn out to be the better team. (I'll be honest, I hope we fucking batter them being one of my local teams but I'll only kick a couple of things if we lose and I won't throw any ornaments around).

Couldn't give a fuck. It's where we are after 46 games. More interested in us taking the game to the opposition and playing good football from back to front.
Tight defence.
Energetic and creative midfield.
Potent strikers.

I think unbeaten runs can actually be a bit of a monkey on teams backs if they try to start defending them: i.e. 2 draws = 2 points; but 1 win and 1 loss = 3 points. There's a huge difference between a winning run, and an unbeaten run. Someone (?) once said 'it's the draws that kill you'.

Well our winning run isn't too bad either at 7 in a row...

Totally agree, against Brentford we might even win 2-1, don't expect us to lose.
But I expect us to lose at Boro and I'm expecting a biggish 0-3 loss to bring us all down to earth.
