Like you mate, I end up travelling as a lone gunman to some away games.

Maybe we need to start a Singles/Lonely Hearts Club for us Blades who like to travel? GSOH is essential...

I go it alone too and was liking your Lonely Hearts Club idea until the last sentence...

I like to go where the lads who chuck smoke bombs and mustard about and throw bottles at opposing fans as I feel safer

Did a 100% attendance season back in 05/06...since then a combination of uni, work and being skint have kept me down to an average of 4-5 per season. Dearly wish I could afford to do more though :(

Once I filter out grounds that I've been to before that I don't fancy going back to (e.g. Boro, Pigs), those that aren't feasible due to travel (Cardiff), those that take the piss with the prices (Bolton, Pigs) and those where I won't have enough points (Pigs again) I'm somewhere in the 4-10 bracket

Usually do between 4-10, but did a dozen last season and the full lot in 11/12. Tend to start the season with the intention of 10 (one a month), mainly due to cost and time, but depends how the season pans out, if it's bang average then it might be about 6 with me trailing off from them in the second half of the season, if it's a belter like last season, well they don't come round that often and you have to make the most of it :) Best spell probably 84-92 when I rarely missed any.

All within an hour of North Somerset Towers and a lot within 2. North Somerset is quite a long way away from most places though

I've got 10 I'm def doing this season, beyond that will depend on how we're doing and the family finances.

I'm in the same boat. My first away game will be Sunderland and then probably about another 7-8 away games throughout the season. This is because of married life and finances ect.

Are you sure this is correct?

Go on then, SB, name the fuckers from 82-88 then? :D

Not many these days, just a few of the local (ish) ones and the odd one further afield dependant on time and money.

Last league away game I missed was Colchester away in September 2012 (missed 2 FA Cup games, Cambridge and Bolton since).

Travel to them all by car with my old man, good chance to catch up, talk about the Blades and generally set the world to right for a few hours every Saturday. A win is always nice but if it was all about winning i'd have stopped going years ago.

I'm quite suprised, as a forum, there isn't an organised gathering on here for away games, I know there's a section for meets etc, just thought there would be a regular group that attend and that people could join in with, after all, we all have at least 1 thing in common!.
After saying that, there probably is such a group n I've just not noticed!?
Do you want to cause a bloodbath?

Not as many as I'd like to unfortunately. A combination of dire financial straits and a string of unreasonable women are to blame!

I managed to do 4 in the Adkins season, (Wigan, Bury, Donny and Chessy) but ironically only 1 last season (Oxford). Hoping to go to a few this season if I can get tickets. I don't think my loyalty points will stretch to the Pigs and the Dingles, but I'm hoping to go to QPR with elgoog44 and Bolton and Preston with a mate who lives in Wigan. Hopefully a couple more too, possibly Derby and Forest.

Ok
Lincoln in Sept 82, Chesterfield in Dec 82, Notts County in Jan 85, Huddersfield in Jan 86, Derby in Nov 86, Oldham in Jan 87, Barnsley in Sept 87 and Ipswich in Oct 87

Did all them bar the first and last. Off the top of my head I'll have a go at the scores Lincoln away lost 1-3 (might have been 0-3), Chessie lost 1-3 (seem to remember Danny Wilson scoring for them from a free kick, this was at the height of the Wilson for Blades rumours), Notts drew 0-0, Oldham lost 1-3 (on New Years day), Barnsley won 2-1 (think we might have scored a late winner) and Ipswich lost 0-1 (conceding, surprise, surprise against them carrot crunching f***ers a late goal - I went to watch Leeds that day and I'm sure that was around the time Fergy took over at Man U).

All correct (Lincoln won 3-0, Gordon Hobson scored the first before half time and there were some fighting in the terraces). Yes, Ipswich winner was a late one scored by David Lowe. When I did the list today I realised that I didnt go to any away matches during the 1983-84 promotion season. I was playing football on Saturdays and nearly every weekend I was seeing a girlfriend from Coventry (she broke up the relationship a week or two after we clinched promotion!)

EDIT Yes, Philliskirk scored the late winner at Barnsley

Didn't miss one home or away for 7 years 80-87.

Did about 17 away last year and not missed so far this one.

Biggest issue for me this season is considering cost of tickets at certain grounds due to taking my two lads with me. Not through affordability but principle of the clubs taking the piss.
Probably buckle though!

Not as many as I'd like to go to, not because I can't afford to go, but because I won't have the piss took out of me by mugs that think 2nd division football is worth paying anywhere from £30 - £50.

I aim to take in about half a dozen away games a season. It is always enjoyable meeting up with forum friends.

I like to make a trip out of a match, stay over so I can have a few beers or visit places I like.

I enjoy taking my teenage son Tom. I like the idea that when I'm gone, and in fifty years time he can come on here any say....

" I Remember when dad took me to watch Blades at Bury, and then there was that time we went to Gillingham and lost 4-0 and when the car broke down on the M25 and we lost at Wembley on penalties 8-7, that was a bad day, driving all the way home in third gear."

Happy days win, lose or draw.

That's the kind of enthusiastic reply I was hoping for when I created this thread !

I had a run a few years back of going to every match including cups for about 7 or 8 years.

Started to miss one or two here and there and now I'm down to 1 or 2 a season. After going on nearly every ground in the Premiership, Championship and League One I was ready for a break. I can honestly say I've not missed it.

I really don't intend to create a "I'm a bigger blade because I go to more matches than you" kind of thread but I'm sure some people will turn it into that, I'm just intrigued to know how many away games on AVERAGE do you think you attend? Obviously this will vary from season to season and also be dependent on time and money etc.
Personally I only get to around 4 a season due to money and being unorganised and also finding someone to go with !

We ought to sort another out soon, coach or car?
