If come the end of the season we miss out on a Champions League or Europe League place on goal difference (or a very narrow margin)?
Not at all, slightly, or very?
Of course we'd be DELIGHTED with how the team (and club) has done, but something like that can have tendencies to change perspective dramatically.
(For example if we survived on the final day with a last minute goal keeping us we'd feel euphoric about the season I think)
Because whereas before if we lost games (or dropped points) to 'better teams' we'd be 'understanding' and 'accept it', quite rightly, but now I'd like to believe I wouldn't be unreasonably disappointed but... I think I would be.
Anyone else the same? (yes I've drunk too much! UTB)
It's an interesting question and controversial as some have posted.
For me, I can look back to our first season in the Championship and how we faded away near the end. This might happen here, but if it does it will only strengthen CW's resolve to take stock and find the reasons why we failed. The first championship season (and it's failure) led CW and team to completely update the spine of the team - in came Hendo, Egan, Norwood and McGoldrick which proved to be significant to allow other players like Stevens, Baldock & Fleck to push their own standards higher. It's what good management do.
If we don't make it, then our club should once again take stock of what is needed to progress - sadly that would mean some of our fans favourites fall by the wayside. My opinion is that CW is ruthless in his pursuit of moving the club forward and the way forward is new players - like Berge.
One of the main beauties of a CW team, is we rarely have a bad day at the office on match days - the collective resolve works wonders, as it did yesterday.
As for last day of the season, sorry, that's daft - never been on the agenda - for me since Chelsea away.
As for Europe - CL would be a massive mistake at this point of our club development. Europa league could be dangerous next season - aka: Hull and Wolves. Believe Hull got relegated the same season and Wolves have vast amounts of Georges Mendes persuasion and Fosun money which pouts a different dimension on them.
We should though welcome the Europa League with open arms if it happened and for sure should have a real go at getting into it and then hope the club management can steer a course through it.
I'd prefer getting to Wembley - obviously semi first and then have a good pop at that big silver thing in a final.
At the end of the day we are making fantastic progress - what a great time to be a Blade, whatever happens.
