I totally and utterly despair at some of the negative comments about certain players and including today’s performance. We are a work in progress and have travelled so far in such a short space of time under Chris Wilder and, within touching distance of European football, maybe even Champions League football! A good number of our players were playing league 1 four years ago and, the majority playing last season in the Championship! If I’d said we’d be in this position at the start of the season men in white coats would have been knocking at the door! What we’ve achieved is nothing short of miraculous. My view of today is that we barely got out of 2nd gear. We scored quite early could have scored more and controlled the game. We were playing against a team full of confidence after their cracking win at Spurs and before that great win against Leicester! Please let’s not get ahead of ourselves and just enjoy! These are the very best of times to be a Blade and we’ve got so much more to look forward to!

You sir, have started a fire with that OP.

We are the best side in the division.

Came away today even though we won , feeling a little flat at the performance , especially second half, which is crazy taking into account the journey we are on and the fantastic achievements so far .

Since the Man City away game at Xmas I think we have been a stop start team with moments of brilliance and longer periods of ordinary.

The pundits have been very very complimentary to us (in the main) and we are the darlings of the prem but our recent performances haven’t been up to the standards we have been used to .

Walking back to the car I spent time talking to some Norwich supporters who said we are great at what we do which , they say , is closing down and pressing opposition but without too much flair / I then defended us by saying that our football has been excellent and that most people still associate us with the Warnock and Bassett era even though I must admit that since Xmas our performance levels have been around 70% of earlier season form . They looked at me as if I was taking crap as they associate us with string arm in your face tactics .

Question is

How good are we really ?

We have double the number of points that Norwich City have.

This doesn't tell us how good or bad we are, but it does tell us that we are doing substantially better than a team that finished above us last season.

How good are we ,really ?

That’s an interesting question and obviously people will provide a variety of opinions and conclusions, dependant on their loyalties.

I believe I have found a definitive, unbiased, impartial and wholly independent answer to the OPs question.

After a brief google search I have discovered that there is a record kept of every Premier League teams performance and respective results. How it works is based purely on the outcome of every match, teams are awarded either 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and nothing for a loss and then placed in numerical order based upon their current points tally. Thus providing an at a glance, a dynamic reference of ‘how good’ every team is in comparison to their peers, which is the only relevant benchmark. No opinion, no bias, no excuses, just 100% unequivocal facts.

I have reproduced the most recent copy of the current record and clearly, it is self evident that we are the 6th best team in the highest league in this country, having played one less game than many other teams.

So my conclusion has to be that we are, unarguably, an excellent football team, that we should all be proud of.

(Incidentally if your Norwich City pals think their team has not been included, please advise them to keep scrolling) 😉

At the moment we are the 6th best team in the toughest league in the world simple as that. The OP really does need to avoid having contact with people from Norwich who like the pigs fans in S6 and continually overdose on Deludamol.
I wouldn't look too far into recent performances against teams which look easier on paper they are not these teams are fighting to survive. Norwich were at it shithousing from the first robust challenge in the third minute and doing all they could to slow the game down for 35 minutes apart from one chance which fell to them they were penned in for most of the 1st half we could easily with a bit of luck gone in 3-0 up at HT. They had to go for it in the 2nd half but only created 2 real chances only Sheffield W are content to hold out for a 1-0 loss. Despite where Norwich are in the table I never expected any thing less than a difficult game against a team who would be a lot higher if they could defend a little bit better.

It’s the “business end of the season” and our supremely fit and talented players are grinding out results against teams fighting for the same points we are, usually for different reasons.

On balance, after consideration, I’d say we’re fucking great.
I agree that the answer to the OP is that we are very very good indeed or as you say great.

You make an important point that the opposition teams are fighting as hard as they can for the points and taking Norwich in particular they started yesterday on the back of 2 wins against Spurs and Leicester and showed again what a good footballing side they are. But we carved them open several times and it could have easily been 3-1 up at half time

We've been well worth the wins against Norwich, Palace and Bournemouth and were a little unlucky against Brighton. If we accept that Liverpool and Man City are better than us, then our last defeat to a team other than them was back at the start of December when Newcastle came and did a proper smash and grab on us.

I've just checked and before that you have to go back to September for our previous defeat, when we narrowly lost to both Liverpool and Southampton.

In fact, I think it's fair to say we a pretty fucking awesome

Weirdly, scoring goals isn't a particularly important characteristic for a striker in this team.
Centre forwards are not there just to score goals,
Irrespective of who gets the opportunity to score the chances need to be taken, McBurnie is missing good chances, if Lundstram, Sharp, Fleck or anybody else was missing them I would say so. We're in a 5 team pack 3 points apart, we could miss Europe on GD.
