He said they have a fit squad, when did he ever say that with us the full weight cup tart :)

The really telling part of this is the reference to 20 or 21 squad players and the suggestion that this might be a bit on the heavy-side !!!! I honestly believe we should get down to 25 or so players who are all pushing for the first team....i.e. cover for each position.....not the bloated...expensive drain on resources that comes with finding the wages for 40+ professionals.....

"If people have not been involved it is hard on them to play half a season and hardly get a kick so the first thing is a consideration of them to get them some football."

(Unless they look at me funny or fart without written permission then they will rot in the Under 16's, cut off from all light and contact with the outside world including their families)

If he doesn't get burton up this season, hes got to be classed as a failure there. All the tools he needs have been left behind, and they are in great form too.

"It is probably a bit on the heavy side so there might be one or two going to make way for maybe somebody coming in."

so he wants some faces, he knows

those are the words every manager in league one uses , some may have to go before we bring someone in
its the same at Bury Rochdale colchester , etc etc

How long can we hold on to Brayford do you think ?
Specially if they get promotion and we don't........

However if you'v e never argued with me I will try to sign you if its a way to ease a goals crisis..convicted sex offenders welcome as I am a man believing in decent conduct.

Paid off by Derby, straight to the Lane, paid off by Utd, short break and employed again by Burton.

On a ratio of success to wages, I'd say he's done pretty fucking well already :(

Only paid off twice since 1998.
Long term record is pretty good compared to most managers.

For a man who signed Higdon he never said we were a bit on the heavy side

Well that's one way of putting it Nigel, but I was making the point that since September 2013 you've been paid off twice and are now back in full employment. That's a pretty prosperous two and a bit years by anyone's standards,

All the best at Burton by the way ;)

That's what he said when he came to us. He said squad should be 18-20 players plus your u21s

That's pretty much what he ended up with as of March last season:-

The website you link to doesn't list 41 Senior players and it does include the likes of Jake Eyre and Ben Whiteman.
The list of players I've seen listed elsewhere breaks down as follows:-

22 Senior Players. 20 Junior Players.

Senior Squad (19):- (G) Howard, Turner (2)
(D) Brayford, Freeman, Alcock, Basham, McCeveley, Harris (6)
(M) Flynn, B.Davies, Coutts, Doyle, Baxter, Scougall, J.Wallace, Murphy (8)
(A) Done, S.Davies, McNulty, Higdon (3)

Senior (Loaned out):- Cuvelier, JCR (2)
Senior (Other):- Collins (1)

Juniors (in Squad):- Willis, Kennedy, Holt, Reed, K.Wallace, Adams, Calvert-Lewin (7)
Juniors (Loaned out):- Long, McGahey, Khan, Diego (4)
Junior (Others):- Dimaio, McFadzean, Paling, Banton, Scarisbrick, Coustrain, Hamilton, Whiteman and McDonagh (9)

6 of the Senior Squad are currently injured and unavailable.

Two more senior players than he was aiming for but we did have six of those out injured.

He did a great job trimming our squad...

Well, to quote The Bohemian:-

"Phipps also made reference to Clough signing too many players resulting in an excessive squad size. During his tenure, ins and outs, (excluding loan signings) were as follows:

Signed: Scougall, Harris, JCR, McNulty, Basham, Wallace J, Butler, Davies, Alcock, McGahey, Higdon, McEveley, Turner, Adams, Wallace K, Coutts, Brayford, Done (18)

Outs: King, Williams, McMahon, Barry, Brandy, Westlake, Hill, Miller, McGinty, Whitehouse, Johns, Hodder, Smith, Taylor, Maguire, Butler, Ironside, Porter, McGinn (19)

On the question of numbers it becomes clear that whilst Clough may not have resolved Phipps’s alleged problem of an inflated squad, it was not of his making and he was only at the club for 19 months.

It would also be hard to argue that Clough’s transfer dealings didn’t improve the quality of the squad he inherited. With the exception of Maguire, who Clough did not want to lose, there is a strong case that every like for like replacement was an improvement on the player shipped out (though Higdon v Porter is a close call!). That’s not to say all have been outstandingly successful, and a few have been very disappointing, but the idea, proffered by some, that Adkins inherited a load of deadwood from Clough does not bear close scrutiny"

I'm guessing you aren't counting the fact that contracts these days generally don't get fully paid out. The fact he is back in work will most likely mean we haven't paid him a deal. The fact he got a job so soon after leaving Derby also means he won't have got a big pot of cash from it.

But don't let facts get in the way of kicking the crap out of a bloke most of us said should have been given another season.
