Jeeez Cmon cut him some slack :)
Only 19 débuts this season.
Only 35 players used with 41 players on senior contracts and you expect him to also know his best X1

Todays challenge is to name all 41 senior players that Clough has in his squad.
(without mentioning Paling, Banton, Scarisbrick, Coustrain, Hamilton, Whiteman and McDonagh)

and no it doesn't mention any of them.

Next

Tomorrows challenge is to answer the substantive point, that Clough 41 players on senior contracts and 35 used in a season shows you that manager hasn't got a fecking clue what his best X1 is.

The website you link to doesn't list 41 Senior players and it does include the likes of Jake Eyre and Ben Whiteman.
The list of players I've seen listed elsewhere breaks down as follows:-

22 Senior Players. 20 Junior Players.

Senior Squad (19):- (G) Howard, Turner (2)
(D) Brayford, Freeman, Alcock, Basham, McCeveley, Harris (6)
(M) Flynn, B.Davies, Coutts, Doyle, Baxter, Scougall, J.Wallace, Murphy (8)
(A) Done, S.Davies, McNulty, Higdon (3)

Senior (Loaned out):- Cuvelier, JCR (2)
Senior (Other):- Collins (1)

Juniors (in Squad):- Willis, Kennedy, Holt, Reed, K.Wallace, Adams, Calvert-Lewin (7)
Juniors (Loaned out):- Long, McGahey, Khan, Diego (4)
Junior (Others):- Dimaio, McFadzean, Paling, Banton, Scarisbrick, Coustrain, Hamilton, Whiteman and McDonagh (9)

6 of the Senior Squad are currently injured and unavailable.

The OP Title of the thread said Clough said STILL doesn't know his best X1, which to me indicates over a long period of time and recurring.
Not a snapshot in time now.

The wiki page shows
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014–15_Sheffield_United_F.C._season
Squad statistics

Appearances and goals
41 players and 35 players used.
Players not used Ironside, Willis, Khan, McFadzean, Long and Ironside.

6 all have played for the club at Senior level and under contract to us.

Instead of trying to be a pedant getting worked up over a word try and say something about what the thread is about.
Again Nothing to say on 19 debuts and 35 players used out of 41.

Why the aggressive tone and telling people to shush? Not really necessary. It’s a forum...
If you exaggerate the number of Senior players (41) that Clough has in his squad, don’t be surprised if someone pulls you up on it.

I’ve stated my opinions on this elsewhere and didn't want to keep repeating myself.
But as you’re so interested in what I think:-

http://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/january-transfer-window-the-verdict.38190/page-2#post-711977

“Clough is trying to balance the twin aims of getting promoted in the short-term, while also building a squad of young players for the future.
Should he have not brought in Adams, K.Wallace and Holt when he got the chance just to keep the total number of players below a nominally acceptable level?
Or should he have not signed Brayford, Coutts and Done and said "forget promotion this season. I'll play the kids with a view to bringing them through"?
Personally, I think he's getting the balancing act about right by making us competitive in three competitions while still giving games to around 8 of the under 21's.
To talk of 41 "first team players" is blatantly an exaggeration”.

He doesn't have 41 players on senior contracts but what he does have is 41 players available to play for him. I think this is the case with most clubs but to actually play 35 players already this season does show a need for a more consistent team selection. Incidently someone has just been sacked and they played 37 players this season, that man was Ian Holloway. Choping and changing at this stage of the season will get you no where, what we need is the team to play together, whether that means losing the first couple of games just to get some continuity.

I don't agree at all about a non existent term called 'junior contracts'.
Players are on contracts with the club full stop.
Nothing more nothing less.
The purpose of calling it a ''Senior contract'' was to differentiate between players who have actually played for the first X1 i.e. the ''senior'' team
If they've been on the team sheet that'll do for me.

There was no exaggeration at all, we have picked 35 out of 41 players who have contracts with the club and have been on the ''senior'' team sheet .

You might not like it, but it is a fact.

I don't know why you needed the smoke and mirrors of even mentioning players who haven't even played for the first team.
The title of the thread is about the best X1.

Of course the substantive point is that Clough has a very weak scouting system, nearly constantly chops and changes his sides, frequently plays players out of position, chucks in 19 new players, and then hopes that will miraculously produce a balanced side!

Ok. We'll agree to disagree then.

Yes, you could ask people to pick a side, who they think Clough would pick, on here for the Scunthorpe game and i reckon only a handful of people at the most would get the same one as Clough. Last year in the second half of the season especially, we all basically knew the team that was going to be played, this tells you part of the reason of where we've been going wrong this season.

Perhaps it isn't easy for us to see problems that players may be having like illness or personal issues. For those reasons the team selected may not match up with our choices.

Saying that, the players must be having lots of issues...

I thought I'd do an analysis who played in of Pre-season games and compare it to to today's side.
Pre- season matches often allow for 11 substitutions so gives all the likely first team squad to have a run out, pending later tweaks, injuries, suspensions and new signings.

I was amazed to see this was part of our pre-season team against Fernebache.

Bladesv vs Fernebache :
Howard, Flynn (Alcock 55), McGahey (Collins 68), Butler, Davies, Doyle (Basham 76), Reed (Dimaio 84), McGinn (Wallace 76), Porter (De Girolamo 76), Campbell-Ryce (Crawford 76), McNulty.
Unused: Willis, Harris, Murphy

Todays side

Blades vs Scunthorpe: Turner ,Freeman (Alcock - 90' )Brayford, McEveley, Harris, Reed, Coutts (Holt - 73' )Doyle Done Davies Murphy

Just 3 players (Doyle and Reed plus Alcock in the 90min) involved today out of 18 players used in the Fernebache game

Just for fun I thought it see what Bristol pre seasson looked like. I choose a random game against Extension Gunners and compared it to their match today against Gillingham. It showed 10 out of 17 players involved.

Even allowing for suspensions and injuries which no doubt Bristol will have had today , this was a pretty stark comparison.
Be interesting to do one for PNE, MK and Swindon, but I surmise similar results with no one coming close to our ratio.

In Nigel we trust???
Seriously?
