Wilder, Fleck, Freeman, Sharp et al will get the vast majority of the praise (and quite rightly so) for our promotion yesterday, but I just wanted to get special mentions to 2 players who have gone almost un-noticed recently.
Firstly Leon Clarke. Written off by the majority of blades months ago & when Hanson was brought in, personally I thought his days were numbered. Wilder kept the faith with him & even mentioned in an interview that he believed Leon had big part to play in our promotion task. Clarke was brought back into the side after a lay off with injury & he scores twice in the last 2 games to help us secure the vital points to seal our promotion. There's a video of him kicking about on Twitter singing "we are blades" when United arrived back at Bramall Lane last night... I know it's easy to say now, but I'm starting to like this guy!
Second, Chris Basham. At the end of last season, I wouldn't have been upset to see Bash leave. I often thought he flattered to deceive & although he is useful to have around the club to cover numerous positions, I thought he wasn't good enough to start ahead of others we had in the squad. In the last few months, Bash has been absolutely fucking colossal & IMO integral to a run which hasn't seen United lose a game since January 24th. Again, from the scenes from yesterday, I think it's pretty obvious that United means something to Basham, more than just being his employer. I've completely changed my opinion of Basham & for me, he's one of the first names on the team sheet.
What a day yesterday was... this hangover is 100% worth it!
