Wilder, Fleck, Freeman, Sharp et al will get the vast majority of the praise (and quite rightly so) for our promotion yesterday, but I just wanted to get special mentions to 2 players who have gone almost un-noticed recently.

Firstly Leon Clarke. Written off by the majority of blades months ago & when Hanson was brought in, personally I thought his days were numbered. Wilder kept the faith with him & even mentioned in an interview that he believed Leon had big part to play in our promotion task. Clarke was brought back into the side after a lay off with injury & he scores twice in the last 2 games to help us secure the vital points to seal our promotion. There's a video of him kicking about on Twitter singing "we are blades" when United arrived back at Bramall Lane last night... I know it's easy to say now, but I'm starting to like this guy!

Second, Chris Basham. At the end of last season, I wouldn't have been upset to see Bash leave. I often thought he flattered to deceive & although he is useful to have around the club to cover numerous positions, I thought he wasn't good enough to start ahead of others we had in the squad. In the last few months, Bash has been absolutely fucking colossal & IMO integral to a run which hasn't seen United lose a game since January 24th. Again, from the scenes from yesterday, I think it's pretty obvious that United means something to Basham, more than just being his employer. I've completely changed my opinion of Basham & for me, he's one of the first names on the team sheet.

What a day yesterday was... this hangover is 100% worth it!

Second, Chris Basham.

Yep, player of the season for me. Not because he was the stand-out best player (although he was in some games), but for the play anywhere attitude and overcoming last season's disasters more so than Coutts, Freeman et al combined. A proper Blade and Morgan's successor in waiting.

I'd like to add that this is a team game and everyone's contribution has been massive. The goals programme yesterday said we've had 17 different goal scorers which is awesome.

My special mention though goes to Simon Moore we've needed a decent keeper since we got relegated so it's no surprise that when we finally get our hands on one we get promoted. Also well done Wilder for realising how important a good keeper is and fixing the problem early.

totally under the radar

losing 1-0

on comes Hanson , after 58 minutes, we score 2 as he opens holes in yet another teams defence
letting others run through the space left

what a guy
Wasn't as simple as that
We went three up top
They went three at the back ,we took off a striker and put on a midfielder and over ran them

Tactically outfoxed them ,again players getting too much credit for management acumen

still did his bit in CW s master plan, midfielders cant find passes into space if nones created

I could get used to not being able to pick a motm as there are too many contenders like this season. Long may it last.

i like this new guy Coutts but my main man has to be the invincible Jake Wright.. we never look like losing when he's on the pitch
(i think we've mentioned everybody by now!)

Fully agree.

On Basham I reckon he's been the best player in League 1 since the turn of the year - made the CB slot his own and its not even his natural position.

That's no exaggeration whatsoever.

He's pretty much been at least 8/10 every game in 2017. Find me another player in the league who's done anything like that.

I've got nothing but respect for Basham and there's no doubt that this club really means something to him.

Basham is also a player which I have no doubt will be able to step up and play a big part next season. Fantastic player to have in the squad for a battling Championship campaign.

I must be wasted in my job.
Should be a football scout.
Stuck up for both players when they were getting alot of stick.
Original and just about only member of the Basham fan club we could have held meetings in a portaloo, now we would need to hire the arena.
Clarke also, "a fit Clarke and his record in this division speaks for itself self".
Can't believe some put McNulty before Clarke.
I do think both players could struggle in the Championship but both deserve the chance to prove the wannabe football scout wrong, but that's a problem for another day. UTB.

Think Hanson adds a lot, first target man we've had while in league 1 that can head a ball. Not shy of running around either. Might not be good enough for championship but when you sign players like him and carruthers in January you'll probably go up 9 out of 10 times.

I think special mention for every single one of the squad. Players like scougall, mcnulty, chapman, riley, done. They've all had a part to play that's been vital. Tbh I'm hoping we don't bin anyone and that everyone gets a chance to prove themselves next season with a few additions. I think it's fair to say none of the squad have had a terrible season. Wilder and knill will know what to do to the players to get them adapted for the championship

owe their flailing careers

I know that predictive text plays havoc with spellings but what did you intend to write about their careers here Fanny Magnet?

Yes and I agree with the comments about Scougall and especially Done who has done so much running up and down the touchline in the second half of the season, just to keep warm.
