I recall hearing/reading about these so-called Adkinsisms that Southampton fans said were such a feature of Nigel's interviews & comments, around about the time he first arrived here.

Having just listened to Adko's pre-Fulham audioboo interview, I realised after a minute or so that I was strangely looking forward to hearing him say the phrase "honest hard-working professionals" - I'd imagine that it must have just sunk in subconsciously over the last few weeks & that it had somehow already become reassuringly familiar...

Just wondered if him saying this had rung a bell with anyone else, or if any other Adkinsisms had stood out? (And whether or not folks like these stock phrases*?)

Sort of reminded me a bit of Danny Wilson's days, with his "from are perspective..." (don't know about on here, but that phrase was BIG over on Bladesmad!)

In many ways he reminds me of Warnock.

He doesn't go into much detail, unlike clough (at the start of his tenure), but he likes to get a few things into interviews which bladey blades love:

- can't wait to hear the GCB
- we work/ worked hard
- honesty
- play for the shirt
- the crowd are the 12th Man

So long as he doesn't blame the ref too much then I can tolerate it.

I don't know if managers at clubs like Doncaster r, Wigan a, Bolton w, hull c, Bristol c and the like proclaim such things as 'proper club' etc when they arrive, but it does seem that apart from Robson and Weir, managers are genuinely excited to manage United.

I like the enthusiasm of Adkins, I'd like a little more on the tactical side at times rather than just cliches but he's a work in progress

I know this stuff gets a bad press - probably because they often have the depth and gravitas of a motivational poster - but properly employed it gives any organisation a unity of outlook and purpose.

Just because something can be misused by a bad manager doesn't mean it can't be well used by a good manager.

I'm no marketing expert, but he certainly seems to have a clear branding communication thing going on. I respect him for it. At the end of the day, football is all clichés, so I am over the moon that the gaffer has sorted this out early doors before squeaky bum time.

I think it's more prevalent in the modern era of incessant media coverage because there's only so much to say. I barely recall the likes of Porterfield even doing interviews and when he did, it was uncomfortable and as if he were thinking "what gives you the right to question me?".

It annoys me the amount of press devoted what we're going to do, how we're giving it our all etc etc. Just get out there and do your talking on the pitch FFS!!

Trig Jnr (TE) has picked up on it and pointed it out in Nige's programmme notes v Blackpool. Then, later in the same article, he wrote "as I've said..... " and then repeated it.

The first line of Adkins Bingo, surely?

I don’t have any issue with his clichés if I’m honest. He comes across as very personable but ultimately, what really matters is what his team does on the pitch. After a real horror show against the Gills, it’s been all good since then. Long may it continue

I heard his interview on RS on Saturday where he said "united together" and it immediately put me in mind of Ed Miliband endlessly parroting out "hard-working families" in the run up to the GE and i wasn't too sure about it, to be honest. I'd like our manager to be human and give an interview from the heart, not some cliche'd PR branding exercise.

Having said all that, if he wins games he can say what he likes. I always find manager interviews just to be an arse-covering exercise so never really pay attention to them anyway.
