Holding

You didn't notice him full body cramping and drinking pickle juice after an hour then. It's pretty obvious why he hasn't been playing after that. We have to be clever not to injury him and he might never be in a position to play a full game.Burnley looks a big gamble with the quick turnaround.

Yes fitness is a part before coming here but also his lack of time with us plays into that.

What I liked about him was the pace he put on his passes.
Those sideways passes Robbo hits to Burrows or Anel dribble along the ground at a slug’s pace.
Holding zips the same passes in to give the receiving player an extra second on the ball & it makes a difference.
Thought he had a good game yesterday.

It’s clearly a problem but he looked calm and composed - has to start on Monday
Get him on a high salt and electrolytes diet and have him not do much training.

I'd expect him to start but not be able to do the 90. Likely come off around 70mins which could be tricky.

When we've had 2/3 game weeks wilders freshened it up between games.

But this next one we have to play our best available.... You surely can't be swapping many out.

I noticed that as well. I'm so used to Robinson taking that exaggerated run up to the ball to play a pass out to the full backs, that is always lacking enough pace. It seemed so much more natural to Holding.

It seems like nothing, but to have that extra split second on the ball in today's pressing game, is important.

I actually can't believe we're still even talking about Robinson being anything other than cover, after all these years.

Yep. If only we had been easing him in & giving him increasing amounts of minutes since January. He might have been fully up to speed by March. But no, apparently Robbo was playing too well. The whole car crash around the CB situation post Souttar’s injury will probably be the main factor in missing out on the automatic places.

It's a tough one as his injury record is poor. If he tweaks something that's him cooked for the season. It's a percentage play imo. Rather CW making the decision than me.

I agree to a certain extent but it’s about winning games in the here & now at the moment with Monday being a biggy

Much better footballer, fitness not at the same level, which I guess explains Robbo starting.

Sign him up.

Free up the money for his wages by letting Captain Angry go. Oh wait, we can't. We triggered his option. Ooops.

Holding made the whole defensive unit so much more calm and assured.

He also fired off some really progressive forward passes.

Quality and experience.

Hope Wilder keeps him in for the next game because this is the one fixture where we could put a huge spanner in the Burnley works.

The only reason he wouldn’t start on Monday is fitness issues. And that’s on Wilder for giving him hardly any minutes. The first month I can understand, after that it just seems ridiculous.

Clearly a premier league player on the ball. In defence he’s at least very good for this level, maybe more. Regardless of what division we’re I next year we should be trying to sign him (can’t imagine it’d be too expensive).

The mad man was doing some cross field pings out to the wings. Doesn't he know he should be turning around and passing it back to Cooper.

Some good passing out from the back but ( this will upset some ) he never won a header against the black lad up front for them all game.
Afraid he's not the answer to our problems in the air but then neither is Robbo.

He'll never be a like for like Souttar replacement. He did win some but yes Meite won the majority but many of them were misdirected due to the pressure Holding exerted on him. The huge difference yesterday imo was the effect on Anel having an organiser and calm influence alongside him. Anel advanced forward more and even won some in the air himself. He was back to sweeping up behind Holding as he did with Souttar. As a consequence the whole back line looked solid apart from the one instance where a Cardiff forward took Holdings legs unnoticed by the ref resulting in pin ball in the penalty area.

The reason he's not fit is down purely to the manager not playing him. If he lasts another 70 minutes on Monday we need to take the risk.

It’s little things like this that drive me crackers with our build up. The balls that are hit to the position an advancing player is in rather than the space they are running in to. With how we play these things are crucial but it’s like they don’t know/aren’t told.

2nd half, he pinged one from the corner flag (our left side) to Choudhury while under a bit of pressure, pinging that upfield is one thing, but doing it across your backline takes some great vision and a lot of confidence.

That started the move which led to Burrows forcing a save at the near post, it's on the EFL extended highlights if anyone wants to see it.

He’s unfit because he’s not played games, he’s not played games because JLT has been deemed better than him. We signed him as a someone without match fitness and we’ve given him no chance of gaining any going into the last few games of the season. Baffling behaviour.

Yeah but can he slide tackle reyt hard and do that thing where he smashes the ball down the left channel as hard as he can to no one when he’s under no pressure?!
